Medic Talks QuikClot Vs. Chito Gauze
Wound packing is an essential skill for bleeding control. Tourniquets are great, but they don't fix every problem. They work great on arms and legs but uncontrolled bleeding in the junctions (places your body parts come together, armpits neck and groin) can only be stopped with good wound packing technique.

Head Wounds for the Civilian First Responder
I’ve felt that helplessness before. Years later, I’ve decided that I NEED to become qualified in first responder trauma medicine. I never want to feel that helplessness again.
My guy
jeff bezos does not care
Nice video, man, thank you.
So they are basically brain dead?
Is it possible to overpack your own neck wound?
imho it is pretty easy to spot nose ring , blue hair etc.
Dude shot his homey
I'm in disbelief! The guy saw a shooting in front of him and he was glued to his cellphone to the very end! It wouldn't surprise me if he said to the other end: I can't talk to you right now I think there's a shoo.t..... Thump!
The number one thing I'm pumped for after AIT as an army combat medic is the ability I will have to teach my loved ones what I have learned, and giving them basic equipment like TQs, compressed gauze, etc. Going to be huge peace of mind while Im not at home
There’s two type of fake cat tourniquets, ones with a plastic windlass and ones that are slightly more expensive with an aluminum windless. The aluminum ones definitely shouldn’t break even the plastic ones usually don’t break.. I’ve heard of people online breaking them. Then again, these are the same fake cat that the Russians are using in Ukraine, and the Chinese military is issued. The only downside is that they don’t open up as wide as an actual cat tourniquet. But they certainly open wide enough to fit the leg of anyone who isn’t morbidly obese. 4:23 you tightened it until it broke. No shit. You can do the same thing with a Genuine CAT tourniquet and “twist it and twist it and twist it” until it breaks.
Fantastic vid. Nice work!
North American quality is not be trusted these days…. Just because it’s made in North America doesn’t mean jack in our modern world. Just because it’s CAT certified doesn’t mean jack either.
This is why I order from NAR when I get tourniquets. When purchased from the maker, you know you're not getting a fake. I also like SOFF-T as they have metal buckles and windlasses!
Nice legs !
I have North American Rescue tourniquets. Still have the one that was in my blowout kit that I got in Iraq.
Great demo, thank you so much for this video :)
Its basically a wide version of the russian esmarch tqs but without the securing hardware
Lose a limb vs. dying? 🤔 yeah I’ll live
I don’t live in the US I live in the UK but there is a company called mere supplies who make first aid kits for dogs as well as for people they are a great company with great customer service
Me: keeps direct pressure 💪 The guy feeling his sucking chest wound fill his lungs with blood:👀🗿💀
What video is this clipped from? Thanks!

I'll save you 17 minutes buy the cat... it take the about the same amount of time yeah right the cat took no time at all and the soft trying to apply on yourself while bleeding to tldeath took you 3 to 4 times as long to get on and is way more complicated must be sponsored to plug that
Swimming!
One way to spot brain damage is if you see someone using brain rot memes like skibbidy.
So I'm just SFAC, studying to become a paramedic. Without watching your breakdown I'd like to test myself.. First thing I'm seeing here is psychology. The officers are not calm. Which is fair since they just shot somebody. Second thing I noticed was the lack of knowledge on their supplies. Also, by continually turning his back to the gun he is not controlled the security of the scene. I didn't see gloves which is putting them at risk, as well as the patient. They didn't do a proper full body inspection to find all the gunshot wounds.. I'm assuming when they applied that tourniquet it was below the gunshot wound. Since we didn't stop the bleeding we shouldn't have commenced CPR.. We also didn't check for pulse or breathing. One thing he did really well was communication to the patient, as well as attempted communication to passing EMS. I'm going to continue watching the video now
Why the one I bought doesn’t have black rubber band?
I ordered one cheap orange one for TRAINING. I marked it all over for TRAINING. This way, I can keep my $30 units ready to go and not wore out.
Mclaughlin? That sounds so familiar. I cant help but wonder if your related to another popular youtube creator.
Yeah, but what works that's also a good part of a concealed- carry package?
why you posting snuff films ?
Thank you for this video...I have searched the internet to find the pluses and minuses to QuickClot vs Chito Gauze. Question; what do you think of burn creams? I have looked at getting some individual burn creams for my first aid kits. I've seen videos and articles that seem to go with a very simple approach of cool water and dry gauze. Thoughts? I tried searching your content for burn treatment videos.
some pros/cons of this thing: + very compact and thin, can be comfortable carried in a pants pocket + technically pretty versatile, can be used as a tourniquet for serious bleeds, pressure dressing for less serious bleeds, or even potentially a sling + can be stretched and wrapped to fit any limb size so it can work for kids/pets, unlike a CAT which is designed for adults and in some cases may be too wide to be effective - its a jack of all trades but master of none, it obviously wont be comparable to the effectiveness of a CAT/SOF-T - its pretty hard to self-apply to a limb one-handed
Thank you for this information! I’ve completed several advanced first aid courses and they have never said that regular gauze can be used to stop bleeding.
Poor survival instinct.

One other thing to consider, we where trained in St Johns Ambulance to take the totality of the incident into account because the unconscious posturing seen in brain trauma can also occur in massive, ongoing electric shocks. If we where to use this incident as an example, if it was following a vehicle crash and the lamp post was damaged then its something to be taken into account. Obviously in this case the judgment would be based around if the gunfight was over or not before offering aid to anyone, better to get away or put something solid between yourself and the scene first.
So far it's the best improvised method I've seen. It's surprising since commercial tourniquetts are rather new. While the idea of stopping blood by windlass device is very old. Soviets used first pre-made tourniquettes as early as in '40 It's surprising there's no consistent and tested way to tighten and secure an improvised tourniquette. Plenty of ideas what can be used for the windlass/bar. Not so much about the actual knot used. Thank you for sharing. Ps. I like your idea about gathorade ring. However, the best part of your method is placing the stick away away from the square knot. That is giving use loose knot tails. We can use them to secure the windlass. Plus the gathorade ring - if we remembered. Most online vids show the stick placed inside the knot. That leaves the problem of preventing tourniquette from unwinding.
People shooting each other over hand signs is crazy
Low intelligence indication.
And the guns are always blamed.
@@rtopalovich Well yeah, pretty hard to have a shooting without a gun. If the guy was armed with a knife it would turn out a whole lot differently.
why do you hate black culture so much?
@@melted_cheetah doubt , and im pretty sure he bought it legally ...
If he is within a few minutes of a neuro trauma surgeon he MIGHT have a prayer.
That clown shot who appears to be his buddy.
sometimes they say incoherent things like "free palestine" or "I support ham ass", that's how you know there's severe brain damage that can never be helped
No thanks YT, this ain’t for me
Well now you clicked on it, so YT is gonna recommend this stuff for months now even if you press dislike
The narrator of the channel whose video you used, Active Self Protection, would later go on to admonish viewers to make sure they have a strong relationship with Jesus on the off-chance they suffer the same untimely fate. I wonder what he’d say about an EMT’s ability to help this brain wound victim if they simply invoked the name of Jesus to heal him.
gun enthusiast UA-camrs are so corny
It is obvious that you are not buying one CAT, but several. To test the product first and learn to use it effectively. Anyone who just buys and hides it in IFAK is asking for trouble and tragedy. In addition, it must be clearly stated that even a legal, super-proven CAT can break. You're never 100% sure. There is just a higher probability that it will work properly.
Brutal clip, it’s harrowing that people can be this barbaric.
I know this was three years ago, but I want to say something about this video. Your demeanor is perfect for a learning environment. You didn't sugarcoat the critique ("...officers did nothing right.') You also explained WHY they did nothing correct. Panic. Lack of training. Lack of experience with such circumstances. You need to be a bigger influence in the community. Thank you, genuinely.
What about gloves?!!
I wasn't expecting him to say that he would move on to others first, but now that I've been educated as to why it makes sense.
gang members in shootings will literally hit anything but the target
