@XxXChUnGUS XxX This game kind of falls during the fall of the 'roman' empire. Palatine Guards or Scholae Palatinae and Bucelarii are from this period. Legions still existed although they were known as Comitatenses. Don't know anything on the Menavalion off the top of my head. The Equites at the end of the empire after Constatine's reforms became Equites Auxilia and became 'handier' than before.
Unfortunately horses will charge into anything, I kind of wish cavalry had to deal with a sort of horse AI, horses arent stupid, why would they charge into a wall of spears?
@@JohnBrowningsGhost Far more common than war-games would lead you to believe, especially the later into the medieval era you get. The heavier the cavalry the more likely it was to be thrown into the enemies front line and surprisingly it worked quite often, the shock and carnage of the initial charge could full out break the center of an enemies front line and collapse their whole formation.
I would love to see a way of folding minor factions into your own Kingdom. That way it would be awesome if you want to rebuild the Empire and incorporate the Legion of the Betrayed, maybe as your primary troop types.
Atrixx you can’t unfortunately. The only way to do it would be to fight them and take prisoners then recruit those prisoners or rescue them from other parties
I'm doing a Rogue campaign, testing myself by only being able to recruit non faction units. From, yes when you take them in battle. I use my prisoner rosta as my reserve army, ready to fill the boots of the fallen. I do have 12 Sea Bandit leaders in a specific formation, which is cool.
I wish you could make them form a shield wall and then command then to advance to the enemy (not just repositioning them closer) while still holding a strong shield wall, also you should be able to have a command where you can get the second line or third to turn around if they get flanked so the shield wall doesn't break
Wolf Chosen are really cool units. It's also not hard to get the Tier 5 minor faction units since many of the Tier 1 units can be taken prisoner when battling minor factions. They can be recruited very fast from prisoner pools and only level up twice to become tier 5.

Hey Res The lorica segmentata was very late empire, only a few decades or so before the split. As such, that armor would be more suited to the empire era troops of the main factions, like legionarys. In the older days of the senate most of the troops would have worn chain mail, known as lorica hamata.
No, it was very much NOT a Very Late Empire Armor, what are you talking about? It was used in the Early and Middle Empire, from around 27 BC to maybe 200 AD, but certainly not by the Late Empire, where the Empire couldn't afford such Heavy Armor anymore. It may still have been used sporadically in the Late Empire, but not on a large scale anymore. And either way throughout the entire Roman History the Lorica Hamata was still kept as an alternative. If you are interested, I can recommend you the awesome book "Uniforms of the Roman World".
when you're outnumbered, or facing a lot of cav, using Circle Formation is useful because it prevents them from getting into your back, but the far side can be vulnerable to missile fire and it is a much slower formation
Would've liked to see an attempt at a Triplex axis move. Hastatii shield wall with Principe as a ranged troop and the triarii as a cavalry. Wait until the enemy engage in melee with the Hastatii, then retreat them and advance the Principe. Use the triarii use keep Cav from charging into your line.
The Equites were still a part of the roman army and auxillary troops from different cultures as well. Would have loved to have seen them too, great video though.
Someone should probably mention: The Roman Empire never used the pre-Marian system. The Marian Reforms happened in 107 BC, about 70 years before the end of the Republic.
The game occurred at the end of the Roman Empire so Cataphacts are accurate for romans Legions are accurate for romans Equites are accurate for romans Bucelarii are accurate for romans Palatine Guard or Scholae Palatinae are accurate for romans
Cool video. Im gonna be annoying though...it was actually in the Roman Republic (not the empire) that the Histati, Princepes, triarii organization method was used. It was disbanded in the Marion reforms around 100 AD I think....but it doesn't really matter just a fun fact

I'm absolutely ADDICTED to this series, keep it coming!! Do the best javelin throwers in the game next!
Well, the first level of imperial cavalry are 'Equite'
So technically it's legit to include them into your roman army ;-)
Dont they become cataphracts? Thats legit too
I have no idea what you guys are talking about
@XxXChUnGUS XxX This game kind of falls during the fall of the 'roman' empire.
@XxXChUnGUS XxX there are mentions of cataphract cavalry dating to ancient greece. An they originated in my understanding in Persia.
those slow mo shots make the video so much richer, gj
Hey how are you doing spectator mode during a battle? Would love to get some screenshots of my own. Cheers
I want to know too, anyone ?
Nice job on that thumbnail really well made
Would making a circle defense help against the cavalry flanking, or would it just make your shield wall too weak?
It's great against horse archers and
Unfortunately horses will charge into anything, I kind of wish cavalry had to deal with a sort of horse AI, horses arent stupid, why would they charge into a wall of spears?
@@JohnBrowningsGhost Well trained warhorses would charge infantry. I suppose they have horses/warhorses so it kind of works.
@@Aziraal-Starhammer Sure, it was still uncommon for cavalry horses to charge disciplined infantry.
10:39 argh my back itches
Your eye for the camera work is awesome!
10:39 my soldier did that too than get hit by ballista annnd dead ;D
19:23 look at that man on the horse. "man they don't pay me enough for this..."
They are actually based on the early roman republic, not on the late ^^ (up until Maruis' military reform)
Early Roman Republic, not empire
@@johnathonhamilton232 Indeed, thanks.
The slow mo with the javalins are super cool !
if only they could be given proper scutums/scuta, that would be so awesome.
Much appreciated that you are showing the stats after the battle! Great job
how do we get the small faction troops? ive only ever seen them as prisoners.
id love to make my infantry core out of them!
Atrixx you can’t unfortunately. The only way to do it would be to fight them and take prisoners then recruit those prisoners or rescue them from other parties
I'm sure making a mod for it isn't too difficult. There might already be one, you'd have to check Nexus
Once you get the disciplinarian perk in the leadership upgrade column, you can upgrade all non/small faction troops past tier 3
Oh my god this is a goddamn video, a true work of art, a master of the epic!!
How do u go into spectator mode while you haven't been knocked out yet?
I wish you could make them form a shield wall and then command then to advance to the enemy (not just repositioning them closer) while still holding a strong shield wall, also you should be able to have a command where you can get the second line or third to turn around if they get flanked so the shield wall doesn't break
do sturgian berserkers only
Probably going to get destroyed cause I find that the sturgians are really weak every play through I destroy them without any effort
See this javellin hitting on right on the target and the physics, is pure satisfaction
Wolf Chosen are really cool units. It's also not hard to get the Tier 5 minor faction units since many of the Tier 1 units can be taken prisoner when battling minor factions. They can be recruited very fast from prisoner pools and only level up twice to become tier 5.
That leader being skewred lol
i LOVE the triarii, i get excited whenever i fight them, more prisoners to wait on recruiting
Hobby game dev here.
Here is a nice bit of trivia for you.
The reason the head disappears in first person is so it doesn't intersect with the camera view. However as you can see,Taleworlds are having a bug occur when you enter battles in first person, and you can see the "inside" of the head model as of writing this.
those look like Byzantine Legion than Republic era legion
My man is POPPING OFF! :D
Great stuff Res!
Best video so far regarding troops
I’ll wait for the mods and hope that they have the Praetorian Guard.
Paetorian's were literally cancer to the empire but they always get the best colors in game.
Kristian Nicholson Yeah I know, but since it’s a game, I’d like to see them.
Damn this is epic bro that final battle! I would love to watch more like that. Maybe you could work on more like that it was epic
Hey Res
The lorica segmentata was very late empire, only a few decades or so before the split.
If you are interested, I can recommend you the awesome book "Uniforms of the Roman World".
your lorica segmentata pronunciation is orgasmic ♥️
You have to love the look of them ... those red capes are sick
want more of this. I hope they will add phalanx formation for the spear/ pike units. subscribed!
Awesome video! Would love to see a mod on legionaries or even Spartan troops :)
when you're outnumbered, or facing a lot of cav, using Circle Formation is useful because it prevents them from getting into your back, but the far side can be vulnerable to missile fire and it is a much slower formation
square would be better if there are no archers to protect
You should do a video on how effective a two handed infantry only army is focusing of the Sturgian Berserkers and Ulfhednar!
Always nice to watch the big battles and Rome always wins you have to love them
Would've liked to see an attempt at a Triplex axis move.
Hastatii shield wall with Principe as a ranged troop and the triarii as a cavalry.
Wait until the enemy engage in melee with the Hastatii, then retreat them and advance the Principe. Use the triarii use keep Cav from charging into your line.
I'd love to see a massive peasant army revolt
The Equites were still a part of the roman army and auxillary troops from different cultures as well. Would have loved to have seen them too, great video though.
Someone should probably mention: The Roman Empire never used the pre-Marian system. The Marian Reforms happened in 107 BC, about 70 years before the end of the Republic.
The game occurred at the end of the Roman Empire so Cataphacts are accurate for romans
Legions are accurate for romans
Equites are accurate for romans
Bucelarii are accurate for romans
Palatine Guard or Scholae Palatinae are accurate for romans
Cool video. Im gonna be annoying though...it was actually in the Roman Republic (not the empire) that the Histati, Princepes, triarii organization method was used. It was disbanded in the Marion reforms around 100 AD I think....but it doesn't really matter just a fun fact
18:13 It is like Roman soldiers vs Barbarian. Very awesome!!
I always try to keep the legion of the betrayed as an enemy just so I can constantly attack them and recruit prisoners. I love bannerlord so far I cant wait for a finished game.
3:11 - just pause here a moment and appreciate the cinematic control of the fights
Most entertaining video I’ve ever seen. I don’t understand why
You need calvary as the hammer on both sides to assist the shield wall as the anvil.
This gives me Rome Total War nostalgia.
If you are to copy the Legions, you'd have to hire cohorts of Archers and Calvary in order to help where the Legionnaires fall short. Which is Calvary fighting and ranged fighting, as well as shock troops.
this was halarious thanks for the laughs by that i mean your funny commentary. i always take at least 10 horse archers with me and come from behind while charging my troops
