My Xiaomi mobile was dropped several times on the room floor from 5 to 5.5 feet but never broke, but a few days ago it just dropped from 2 feet high on the playground field where only grass is there, but the screen got blank with a green tint and after that screen touch was working but the display had no light.
Could be a small pebble which caused stress on a small part of the display. Modern smartphones easily survive a flat drop from 5 feet distance on an even surface.

Because a Sd card is one time invest say 256gb sd will work in for many years and will help user to transfer data when phone screen breaks/ becomes unresponsive.
