This was beautifully filmed and produced, Matthew - it may be your best yet. I'm in the camp of those unimpressed by Sangiovese, but maybe I just need to spring for better stuff: I rarely splurge on a $50+ bottle of wine. I'll look for some of these you tasted here.
Thank you Stan! I appreciate it. There are wonderful bottles of Vino Nobile and Chianti Classico in the 25-30 dollar range that taste beyond their price
@@drmatthewhorkey Had one today: I'm sold. Villa S. Anna Vino Nobile 2016. I actually detected leather on the nose (and a lot more) - that's a first for me! I thought you reviewers were just blowing smoke!
Boscarelli really is the benchmark of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano! No more words needed. Luca and Nicoló are two humble perfectionist, with such a kind and welcoming personality. Definitely worth the visit! Hope to see you very soon at Vinitaly or ProWein! - Leon
Hope to see you at one of them too! I was at VinItaly special edition back in Oct. Boscarelli are just killer wines too
Great video Matthew. This format is really impressive! Waiting for more.
Thanks! There are many already released on the channel with more to come
so much passion, preparation and work put into those 14 minutes! thanks a lot and greetings from Austria
Woww thanks for recognizing. There are other videos like this under ‘Wine Travel’ playlist and more to come… BTW I love Austrian wine.
Thank you for the wonderful series on Sangiovese!
Thanks for watching.
Good Sangiovese can be considered a close call to a Bourgogne Pinot Noir.
Boscarelli and Gatavecchi are among my favs! A real taste of Nobile!
Blends perfect with either local pici as pasta or a dish with a ragù as a second
So glad to see another Montepulciano vid, Dr.!
Yamas Tassos! One more is coming ;)
Another great video! Really enjoying these focusing around Tuscana. In my younger days I think I was thrown off a bit by trying cheap Chianti and it really making it hard for me to get back into that region and appreciating Sangiovese and that region for years. And while I've slowly started going back to that area, it's been your videos that have made me want to really learn more. And totally agree with you, there's SO much to learn in the world of wine! Of course I've known about Chianti and Brunello, but I admit Vino Nobile is not one I'm too familiar with or see in my state a lot. Great to learn and already trying to see if I can bring in some Vino Nobile from one of my distributors.
Ahhhh thanks so much. There are some brands that are fairly widely distributed
Great video with excellent description of the wines in the region. As you love sangiovese, I may open a bottle now!
Thank you, what will you open?
@@drmatthewhorkey Usually we can't go wrong with Brunello. Have a bottle of Col d'Orcia ready to go :)
love it!
🙏
The Gattavecchi guy looked worried when you were talking about the labels XD I'm glad it was great!
Hahahhah. They are very good wines, even the Rosso di Montepulciano.
Great video Matt. Keep up these type of videos 👏🏻
Thanks a lot :) There are more videos like this under the Wine Travel playlist on the homepage of the channel...
My cup of tea, this video. Thanks!
Thank you sir… koszi
I want to do one like this in Tokaj…
Um bom vinho e dar valor a natureza
🍷👏🏼
Great description of your tastings...need to go buy a bottle of Vino Nobile!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy.
Your content is on fireeee 🔥 right now. The editing if this is pristine. At this point I know we have very similar palates so I ordered a case of the 2018. Looking forward to see how it evolves over the years
Thank you! I hope it takes off. A case of which wine?
@@drmatthewhorkey Boscarelli vino nobile di montepulciano
Nicccccceeee enjoy!
Thank you!
Thank you for watching 👀
Loved the video, Matthew! Saving all these wineries in my maps with a hope that I can visit them one day. ;-) Looking forward to your second video of Tuscany.
Thank you so much! I hope you can get there. If you missed the first video in thos series, you can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/sZKs3GCdiJA/v-deo.html
Great adventure ! Wish I can visit some day :) Plenty of great wines there
Yes sirrrre. Hope we can go together!
Great video. I understand you're focusing on Sangiovese but I saw the bit on Tignanello and as a (mostly) French wine drinker, it would be great if you introduced more Super Tuscans.
Thanks. The focus in the first segment with the first producer is about a Super Tuscan. The 3rd and 4th producers in the video do make Bordeaux blends but they pale in comparison to their Sangiovese. For more on Super Tuscans you can check these two videos: ua-cam.com/video/KVK5OtnoIlY/v-deo.html & ua-cam.com/video/Y2OdEPlwWEs/v-deo.html
Love the video, I have collected burgundy and some Bordeaux for a while now. Tried lots of top wines from both regions and many other new world wines too. Have to agree with you Italian wines esp Tuscany including some of the super Tuscans like Castello dei Rampolla I had recently offer much better bang for the buck compare with Grand Cru Burgundy and to tier Bordeaux.
Had a memorable visit to Casa Nova di Neri and got started from there.Wish I could go back there soon…
To me Sangiovese is a bit like Pinot but very food friendly. Read some reviews and get the right bottles you will not be disappointed!
You are spot on and it sounds like you really know your wine! People kick and scream at me when I say how great, gently handled Sangiovese can resemble Pinot Noir too.
A couple of years ago I a regional winery suggested that I try a bottle of their Sangiovese. Unfortunately I was very unimpressed. Probably was due to the quality of the grapes along with my having wrong expectations of what the grape should be delivering or I may just not like the taste of Sangiovese.
But after watching this video I will again try a couple of bottles to see if they are better.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you. There are a lot of subpar examples just like any grape. The good producers do wonders with the variety though.
Hi Mat, I'm a Hungarian wine lover following your channel for a while, If you had to name your 3 favorite sangiovese-based wines, what would they be?
I mean the most favorite ones regardless the price and naming the vintage.
Whatever is in front of me when I’m in Tuscany ehhehe
Don’t know much about Italian wines…I know few wineries.
Ohhh that surprises me. I’m such a big Italian wine fan.
@@drmatthewhorkey I have visited Italy twice but those days I was not used to spend lot of money in wines. My wife loves Amarone so we have few bottles in cellar.
