The movie also abandons the idea of some kind of universal justice, in which good is always supposed to win against evil. In most stories, especially after so much murder and mayhem, you would expect justice to be served in the end. Instead our protagonist dies suddenly and offscreen before he can truely claim his reward, and Chigurh presumably gets away scott free thanks to a random act of kindness he did not deserve.
Anton Chigurh thought he was a semi-cognizant reaper the entire movie until he met Carla Jean. I liked how he literally thought he was a force of nature and no one really put that blood on his hands. He was there because people brought this upon themselves. Why he expressed displeasure at executing certain targets, turning his face from them, like it was his burden at times.
The ending always said to me that Anton, even while receiving this critical blow to his morality, having blood underneath his shoes, he desired to go back into obscurity. He wasn't afraid of the law, but he was afraid of the hospitals and cops that would identify him as something less than a reaper; a human. It's an interesting dilemma that actively has the force of nature want to remain nothing more then the theme of the book or movie so-to-speak even without realizing he's in one.
One of my favorite movies. Fantastic video.
Do more of these.
You're too good for the shallow themes and paper thin storylines of manchild passtimes bru. With films you have more to sink your teeth into.
Excellent analysis -- got here after watching the Better Call Saul video about the brothers McGill
Man... This was great. Well done.
Great job, Bruman. I didn't get the whole bystander thing when I watched the movie back when it came out. Makes me want to rewatch the movie, it's already been seven years after all.
I love this movie so much, and it was cool to get a more in depth look into it. Thanks for another great video. :)
never seen a better analysis of this film.
Good stuff, Brutal. I'd love to see more of this from you!
This was an excellent analysis!
I really enjoyed this video and would love any more of the same type!
One of my favourite movies, nice analysis Bru
The Nujabes will never cease.
Other than that, excellent review. I'd love to see more of this stuff, ranging from video games, movies, shows, anime, whatever you see fit. Keep the train of videos chugging along!
Really good insight into the film. I think I understand it a lot more now.
omg, you're on fire
good job, well done.
I'm glad I watched this. I didn't care for the movie, so I never went back to try and figure it out. Now I wish I had. This helped me make sense of what bothered me so much about the movie. Thanks.
You know, I always knew NCFOM was a great movie but I never really understood why. Thanks for clarifying.
Two non-joke videos in a row? What a treat!
I was going to watch this movie beforehand anyways, but this review was quite insightful to a 'banality of evil' argument. Loving these reviews, brutal.
A very good review of the movie that helped me to see it in a different light, and made better sense of its motifs. I still don't quite understand the ending and why the Sheriff's dreams are so relevant, which irks me because I always like to ponder the imagery in dreams. Can anyone shed light on this one?
For anyone that is interested, apparently the book makes a much deeper character of the Sheriff, who SPOILERS: is conflicted while tracking Chigurh. Apparently, while in Vietnam the Sheriff was part of a doomed offensive and was the sole survivor of his platoon, because rather than attack, he hid. Although wracked with guilt and shame for his actions, he is actually awarded a medal for valor, which only complicated the event even more for him. END OF SPOILERS. Thus in his pursuit he is caught between the same cowardice that kept him alive, and his need to do right which may get him killed.
But that is all second hand from someone who did read the book so maybe I'm just making this all up.
It's so sophisticated until i remember the channel name :)
I'm sure Btongue is proud of you, bru. Glad to see your content took this direction. Speaking of "force of nature" - I think you could analyze Refn's "Valhalla Rising" next.
That movie is a piece of shit. What more is there to say?
swiftly as a ninja I think calling it a piece of shit is a bit harsh. It was kind of a sleight of hand that started out being a movie about Vikings that transitioned into a bizarre tabula rasa. It was what you imprinted on it.
Just wasn't really notable outside of that.
this isnt video games
Mastu Denton ain't that something
So many reviews, it's almost like some kind of pseudo-intellectual rush hour!
so why a movie review of all things?
My favourite part of the review was when you didn't spend half a fucking hour getting to the point.
Is this for film school or something?
Can you list the music credits?
