    These episodes aired late 90's. The interviews and back-stories were good to watch.

    I watched and taped theses episodes as they aired as well. Time snd circumstances (as well as no more VHS's) intervened so Im glad someone else has kept these "historical records" for posterity. (Best Galaxy Quest alien laugh!) 🤓😎🖖🏻

    I started watching TOS because I loved the newer series and wanted to do my homework. This was the first episode (after like 15) about which I thought - hey, this is actually great!

  • @johntabler349

    This episode is the perfect example of why I love the Original Series and range between like and tolerate to the others. Individual liberty individual rights, individual creativity and potential, freedom is worth fighting for, sacrificing for, even dieing for that to be a part of a collective however blissful is to be as dead. All these principles are not only implied but stated emphatically and drive the motivation of the plot. How much better than the vegetarian space socialists who are always right.

    How bizarre that this vignette begins and ends with some brief remarks about the actual episode and yet for the vast majority of time in between merely gives broad cultural boilerplate and quaint anecdotes that have nothing to do with _The Return of the Archons_. Well, perhaps that's not entirely true. One wonders indeed whether George Takei was still under the spell of Landru during his remarks.

    "Of the Body" -= Cult relegion ...obvious reference to Christianity in it's most narrow minded form, but which began quite differently, 'Archoms' itself is an ancient relegious concept - look it up on Wiki! One of my very favorite episodes.

    • @lisasilvas5914
      @lisasilvas5914 5 років тому +2

      andyrauf Logical assumption - or perhaps a Cult of Atheism where the state is the body! A soulless society run in machine like fashion by the central planning of a lifeless computer where the state is all - either way group dynamics overwhelm individual freedom. ARCHONS are the Hidden Rulers according to ancient Gnosticism - they control our world by keeping us in perpetual conflicts and chaos! I've always wondered why the brief mention about Archons at the beginning of this episode - a subtle clue by the writer? Hmmm.

    • @erentheca
      @erentheca 5 років тому +1

      It's far broader and more interesting than a myopic critique of Christianity.

    • @dinahwhite3929

      the archons are in fact the real demons that secretly control humans in the material world
      the gnostics were resistance fighters of monks
      followed by LUCIFER OF LIGHT KNOWLEDGE
      and god of abraham and of muhammad is an EVIL DICTATOR THAT RULES OVER US THE DENIER OF KNOWLEDGE TO ADAM AND EVE
      LUCIFER WAS THE SERPENT OF WISDOM
      AND GODDESS SOPHIA IS HIS MOTHER THAT BETRAYED HER HUSBAND GOD THE FATHER THE CATHOLIC TRINITY WAS A LIE
      THE REAL TRINITY TODAY IS THIS
      THE FATHER
      LUCIFER
      THE SON THE HOLY MOTHER
      JESUS SOPHIA
      NOW WHY DID I PLACE LUCIFER AS THE REAL FATHER OF JESUS?
      THE ANSWER IS IN REVELATION 22:16 "I AM THE DESCENDENT OF KING DAVID OF THE BRIGHT MORNING STAR [lucifer]"
      KING DAVID AND JESUS CHRIST ARE THE LIVING DESCENDENTS......OF LUCIFER.
      IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS NEW REVELATION THAT I CRACKED WILL BRING THE LIES OF THE CHURCH DOWN
      THE STAR OF BETHLEHEM IS ALSO RELEVANT TO THE SYMBOLISM OF LUCIFER BECAUSE HE WAS THE REAL FATHER AND IMPREGNATED MARY WHEN JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS HE WAS PLACED IN THE TOMB HE WAS RESSURECTED BY REBIRTH IN THE LITERAL WOMB OF SOPHIA THE MOTHER OF LUCIFER
      TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION REMEMBER
      LUCIFER WAS A LOVER OF HUMANITY
      AND A FREEDOM FIGHTER NOT THE DEVIL
      I BELIEVE IN HIM AS FOR JESUS AND GODDESS SOPHIA

    Actually, if all those computers had been really smart, and not just operating from programming, Kirk could have negotiated his way out without violating the Prime Directive. He could have offered Landru withdrawal from Beta III and a quarantine of the planet from further Federation visits in exchange for turning off the microwave beams and allowing the landing party to beam up (as well as de-absorbing, if it was possible, O'Neill and Sulu). Same with Vaal. I just don't believe those respective computers were capable of making such bargains, any more than Nomad could be talked out of its prime function.

    Oh how disappointed was when I discovered *Scotty* or should I say James Doohan wasn't in fact Scottish. But it is a testimony of how well he played the character. You know I really Really believed he was Scottish. I guess as a youngish fan I just didn't want reality to intrude on the fantasy........ ☮️⚛️
