As an American who married and had children with someone from another country I don’t understand how other Americans don’t do any research on the cultures they are marrying into. My ex is from Mexico. I did all I could to be a part of the culture. I learned the language, and customs.
Because Americans just expect the whole world to be like them. They think there are no cultural barriers and that their ethics and morals are universal. And even if they are aware of other customs, they just ignore them anyway and think they're stupid and should be abandoned in favor of theirs. It's a case of wanting and thinking you can have your cake and eat it too. Most people won't abandon their own customs all that easily, even for a spouse. It's why I don't do things like tell my wife to stop believing in her religion, or how to parent, or even how to be a wife. I know we have different customs. I love this person enough to respect them and not try to change them into something they're not. If two people can't reconcile these differences, then they shouldn't be together. Not saying this about you specifically, but more-so these two.

My parents were married for 40 years, before my Dad was caught with CP and went to jail. He was abusive to her and us. And what did Mom do? She went out and found another guy just like Dad. She lived by herself for 6 months and couldn't stand herself, so she got married again. Trauma reenactment is 100% valid and IMO I think Tigerlily has it. I don't think she's had a thought strong enough to escape her thick skull, so how can she work on herself and have therapy about it?

Facts! It takes me forever to get ready (but only bc of chronic pain, not bc I'm like Tiger Lily lol) and I plan accordingly! I would never make anyone wait 4 hours for me, jaysus. It’s only Tigerlilly saying her ex was controlling. This is a woman that took 4 hours to get ready for a car trip. The ex probably didn’t want to wait 4 hrs everyday for her to get her fake hair & makeup done. She found her ex husband (he was very wealthy) got pregnant at 30 had another kid or two (bigger paycheck). Spent 4 years getting a divorce and is now 41. That means she might have spent 7 years (while spending lots of his money) with the wealthy ex husband. The guy was nothing more than a big payday. For one, they've been divorced for years by this point and all her friends are still paid employees, why hasn't she made friends? Okay let me defend her, I get my hair done professionally, plus she has extensions like I do. it’s takes a minimum of an hour to wash dry and style. I'm single, and *a grown up*, and I seem to know more about someone before our first date than these people do about partners who they claim to be the love of their life. I don't really buy that her husband controlled her to the point where she had no friends. For one, they've been divorced for years by this point and all her friends are still paid employees, why hasn't she made friends? There HAS to be something with the show getting (or coaching) people to be so willfully ignorant around their partners. I'm single, and *a grown up*, and I seem to know more about someone before our first date than these people do about partners who they claim to be the love of their life. Further, I spent one week in a European country and I spent the weeks before the trip learning basics of the language, money exchanges, and BASIC cultural standards. And I was just visiting!
This season is making me wonder if this whole thing has become some weird propaganda. But then I remember a friend who was preparing to marry a man she met locally and in real life (lol) who did not have a driver's license and when I asked her why (again, midwest - very unusual for someone not to drive) she said she didn't know. This seems impossible to me. I guess I've just never been so...blinded by my desire for a man.
