- Homage to one of the best Hollywood movies of the 1940s: "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir". Incredibly romantic film with a major GBF rating (Goosebump Factor). Starring Rex Harrison, Gene Tierney, and Bernard Herrmann's musical score.

It is the most pure poetic film on eternal love that I have ever seen. I am moved in my heart beyond words. The black and white film, acting, writing, musical score, and directing are remarkably sensitive to the nature of romance. It will remain cherished within my heart forever.
Keith Wilson KEITH AWESOME, SUPERB AND RIGHT ON DESCRIPTION THANK YOU
Forever in my heart
MY TO THE ENDING MADE ME CRY
This exquisite score will last for all eternity.
Keith Wilson this is my most ever watched fav movie. I hav it on dvd. It’s superb 😍
This tribute is so beautiful, it doesn't seem that it could have been created by anyone alive today. It's like a moment out of Hollywood's Golden Age come back to haunt us with its loveliness.
I saw this movie for the first time last night. And immediately fell in love with Gene Tierney. Great story, great acting, beautiful cinematography and musical score.
***** She certainly does.
If there is a "perfect" ending to a movie, this one has it.
Oh yes, I can watch this ending scene over and over. Beautiful.
The final shot is the greatest final shot in all of cinema.
Oui mais pas maintenant 😊
The ending had me in tears.
This wonderful movie was released in 1947. It masterfully spoke to the millions of brokenhearted young widows of WW2 of lost love, and hope of being reunited in a way that nothing else could.
@The Lady Olenna Tyrell Yes! I'm sure you're absolutely right.
"We'll meet again; I don't know where, I don't know when ...."
Well put.
The camera work, direction and music are some of the best in the business.
I have watched this film dozens of times. Its the best one Rex Harrison ever did, it suited him so well. So glad you missed out the cad Uncle Neddy, I always fast forward that, except for the bit where she calls on his house in London and meets the wife-brilliant. I am choked up at the end of the film. I wonder who will be waiting for me..............
Love this movie and watch it often!! So romantic and the music is beautiful......
The daughter of Bernard Hermann said this was her father's favorite scores to write.
And now, you'll never be tired again.
Spartaculus Jones Just reading this made me burst into tears. My favourite movie.
+golob13 The same thing happened to me.
😞😞😞
This is one of the most romantic movies I have ever seen. I never tire of watching this love story which makes me cry every time I watch it. I love the classics with all the drama and romance you don't really see anymore in this day and age. I'm glad we have these classics that carry us to this bygone era of movie making.
The best movie musical score ever composed. Simply beautiful.
I can watch this movie over and over again and never get tired of it. In fact it grows on me more and more each time I do and of course I am never without a hankerchief. The most touching, beautiful love story ever produced coupled with Herrmann's "masterpiece" score. Unforgettable.
A beautiful score to go along with an even more beautiful movie. Love it! Five stars and favorited.
With the pounding surf...candle lights...romantically soothing score...black and white images...and a chemistry of love which is unmatched....I am lost...captivated....swept up in heaven with what they share...breathtaking...with class..and such deep brushing of the hearts fibers that time ceases
This is one of my absolute favorites. The first time I heard Herrmann's beautiful score, I was hooked. It's the best he ever did; no wonder it was his favorite. Thanks so much for posting; you did a great job on it; and I got my fix today.
I've seen this movie a dozen times and it still moves me like no other. This is what great movie making is about. When I played it to my mother and stepfather (and he's not the sentimental kind!) the first and only time, they both sat mesmerized for the entire film. It speaks to every generation.
for her it was not loneliness it was contentment my dear........she had been widowed and knew of control, for her Daniel was love............though not in reality.......she felt it throughout her being....as one who does truly love another...........without question...........this is the love we should achieve............
Ageless/Fem-Gem How lovely and peaceful a thought. Bless you...
By far the greatest love of all....
I would have wished for this type of love if any that comes close to having someone that can love unconditionally like "Daniel, The Captain.
That end part will forever make me cry....
One of the best Hollywood endings ever! It's the music by Bernard Herrmann that takes it to another level. I do wish Lucia and Martha hadn't fought before Lucia died though
@@kentonclarkson1449Martha knew Lucy cared for her, though. The trust and affection was always there. Perhaps Lucy’s last effort to reach out to Martha got through to Martha somehow, even if it was just a slight warm touch to her heart.
This is one of the most touching and beautiful films ever. I love and cherish it.
What a beautiful homage to one of my favorite films and composer. Your effects were so beautifully simple and eloquently shown. Thank you for making my day! I wish I could get my friends to watch this film!
I've watched "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" more than one time in my life. I was flipping the channels on my TV tonight and TCM network is airing movies with Gene Tierney in them. This movie does bring some tears to my eyes. I do relate to Gene Tierney's character in some ways. I like to write. And I understand what it's like to be alone - not being in a relationship or having any man for many years. To me, I think it's romantic that Gene Tierney's character has a special relationship with the ghost played by Rex Harrison. Even when she is physically alone, at least she has the emotional relationship and company of the ghost played by Rex Harrison. And the widowed Mrs. Muir says that the company of the ghost has given her many good & special memories. I do like the ending of this movie. It's nice to know that Gene Tierney's character didn't end up alone.

It's one of my all-time favorites from 1947 which makes me wish that if one can have a love that special it would be ethereal as a ghost seeking someone to love him too.
yes. My favorite film score of all time. Nothing else blends with the movie's character than this hauntingly beautiful music. Nothing captures the sea and those who go to sea better than this theme. A masterpiece. Should have won the Academy Award for musical theme. Wasn't even nominated. What an outrage. God bless you Bernard Herrmann.
That ending is marvelous!
This is such a BREATHTAKINGLY beautiful video! Great job! I read that this was Bernard Herrmann's favorite score.Little wonder,it's so lush and beautiful...stands up to the test of time..No one can come close to you Mr. Herrmann...God rest your soul.
How beautiful was Gene Tierney.
This movie is fantastic, and I am 16. Then again, the 40's are my era of choice.
Yes, IN MY OPINION, IN THE FASHION OF CAPTAIN GREG, THE BEST PERFORMANCE REX HARRISON EVER HAS DONE, 🌹🌹🍷🍷
What a beautifully crafted approach to this haunting film! I'm a big "Gene" fan, and this was sent to me by a kind friend. The Bernard Herrmann score was also so appropriate, given the mystery involved. Thank you so much for posting!
You are in my dreams, disappearing like the soft mist in the mornings. You fill me, envelop me, caress me, and the wind tells me about the love you feel. The stars smile for you, the sun loves you and the sea is your humble servant. Did I really feel you now? Was it you when my candle flickered so gently? My sweet, darling ghost - love of my dreams. Sofie
Beautiful . You must be a writer. Can put your feelings on to paper . For a brief moment when I was young , in loves , able. Hope you still are. Thank you .
Yes, just beautiful.
It may sound cliche' but they simply don't make films this hauntingly beautiful, bittersweet and tender anymore. My wife and I rank it among our mutual top ten favorite films. We just finished watching it and both cried during the closing scenes. What a beautiful and poignany homage you created.
the nature of the beautiful eternal nature of love has never been more deeply expressed. the mystery and mysticism of the sea serenades two independent souls whose devotion to each other is moving beyond words.....no other movie can touch me and warm my heart in the manner that this one does....it is timeless...deeply palpable
Your comments very beautifully thought and written. Eloquent
Although it has it's light hearted moments, it is very poignant both with aging and the inevitable passage of time (with the deteriorating post that has the daughters name carved in it) and several mentions of loneliness. But a great ending and perfect score.
I hope one day to understand why this gem of a movie is only rated at 3 or 4 (out of 5) stars. I can't see anything in it that would cost it that extra star or two. Just the beautifully haunting music by Bernard Hermann is enough to make it memorable. Someone needs to tell me why it gets under rated.
John Greene They never met their Captain or Lucy.
John Greene It's depressing and sad. That's why.
It has a happy ended though.
+PALIN SMITH If all you're getting out of this movie is that it's "sad and depressing", then I think you're missing the point.
One of my all time favorites. Will never forget the first time I saw it. I was 11 and my mom let me stay up late to watch with her. The ending is so beautiful!
I fell in love with this film, with the music, the photography & everything else when i was a small child. I studied film in college. I'm 47 now and it has stood the test of time - still a rare work of art. Many, many thanks for this beautiful tribute...
My favorite scene is when they're on the balcony at night. They are nearing the end of writing the novel and Mrs. Muir plaintively asks, "What's to become of us, Daniel?" It is at this point that the ghost decides to leave until they are reunited decades in the future.
One of my favorite movies.
My favorite clip on yt. Unbelievably poignant and romantic. Gives me hope when humanity can create great works of art like this that move and touch us and resonate within our souls. Hermann's haunting score is cosmic yet also straight from the heart. One of the best film scores
This is one of the most wonderful films Hollywood every produced. And Herrmann's score fits it perfectly.
Da hast du vollkommen recht, Gordon.
Yes, she dies, and is finally reuinited with Daniel....A touching scene has never been more beautifully put on film. A beautiful, and happy/sad movie that I never get tired of watching....
A perfect movie. Beautiful and soulful.
We are here for but such a short time, this move and its characters, brings that fact home so profoundly, and Herrmanns music moves somthing in the viewer that reminds us of the futility of it all ,the following are line from Keats which somhow sums it all up.
Faded the flower and all its budded charms
Faded the sight of beauty from my eyes
Faded the shape of beauty from my arms
Faded the voice, warmth,whitenes, paradise.
Vanished unseasonably at shut of eve.
Love everything about this movie.
Merveilleux film et très belle vidéo, bravo..
Wonderful! Just wonderful! One of my favourites!
I just watched this movie and consider myself a "tough guy" but have to admit, my eyes became a little misty watching various scenes, especially the last one closing out the film, there is something about this film version and the music that accompanies it that gets me like no other movie..beautiful, I guess we all are looking for this kind of love....
Wonderful love story, reminiscent of Somewhere in Time. Gene Tierney was so beautiful.
Beautiful! Nicely Done.
one of my favourites of all time, the music is so evocative, expressive and haunting.
I've seen this movie more times than I can say & it always touches my heart I finally read the book this year it was great. My husband & I remarried after 30yrs we were together for 8yrs he became ill last year with prostate cancer it was very aggressive he's been gone 2mos & 8 days I miss him but I feel as if he's still with me at times but I know we'll be together again one day just like lucia & daniel🌹
I’m so sorry ♥️
That was one of the most moving tributes to a movie I have seen in a very long time. I shed a tear watching it. One of my favorite movies and scores. Timeless.
The ending still makes me catch my breath and cry with joy to this day.
-Beautiful- is a mere euphemism for what this film is. I adore every frame of it. The haunting score by Bernard Herrmann makes it even more perfect.
I so agree with you Pierluigi. The movie and particularly the musical score are perfect!
Wonderfully put together! Thanks.
Gene Tierney at her best.Rex Harrison in top form in a great movie
one of the most beautiful and moving videos i've ever seen... congrats to a job well done, love this movie!!!!! thank you for sharing this with all of us...
I remember I watched this film when I was 11 or so, and I never forgot it. Grateful for youtube.
That music, almost as beautiful as Gene Tierney.
Gene Tierney ~ Amazing! 👍😎
Thanks for making me get misty in Starbucks. I've got the soundtrack from iTunes. Truly haunting.
It's not really a ghost story. Scratch beneath the surface, it is an intense love story, made especially sad because the lovers are so attracted to each other but cannot be physically intimate. Dig deeper, it is a story about a woman, Lucy, connecting deeply with her "Animus" (the masculine image in a woman's psyche according to Jung). The music, sets and cinematography compliment the mood of the film perfectly. None better than Harrison, Tierney and Sands.
Lovely poetic montage...
For My Eternal Darling-Love, My Heavenly-Resplendent Wife, My Barbra Rose (in Heaven since November 22, 2010). I watched this wondrous film shortly after My Barbra Rose left this world and me. I don't believe in ghosts, but, I know in my heart and soul that Barbra will return for me and take me to Heaven. On that unimaginably better day, Barbra and I will walk hand in hand into a heavenly sunrise -- one which will never end. I'll be waiting for you, Barbra.
♥️
Spectacular. I've seen this film about 100 times and it always gets me. You captured the feeling of the film wonderfully . It's ultimately a happy story . Love wins every time
Netflix has it. Also, check the used book and movie stores. That's where I got my copy. You can also purchase it from TCM network (used to be the Nostalgia Channel I think). One of my absolute favorite movies!
This is one of my favourite films and I watch it over and over again. If I won the lottery I would build a house just like the one in the film and would love to be haunted by Daniel. Beautiful video. Thank you.
My all time favorite movie. Fir my frien Gary. See you later.
Thank you for posting! I always thought that this was one of the most romantic movies! Both actors were great in this film and, of course, that beautiful score!
A classic!!!
the kind of movie that really stays with you, haunts you, even...lol.
This film is pretty much perfect and the soundtrack and performances are spot on. The Blu-Ray transfer is highly recommended.
I heard about this score over the years, and finally watched the film a few weeks ago. I wound up watching it 4 times that weekend! I guess I am as beguiled as so many other posters here seem to be.
I watched this movie last night. It's one of the saddest movies I've ever seen. Ranks with Artificial Intelligence (AI). A whole life wasted in loneliness.
oh my GOD, I cried for poor David & Teddy
+PALIN SMITH No, not wasted, but a life in waiting for love in eternity.
She thought she was alone in this world but the sea captain was waiting for her
love love love!
one of my absolutely favorite movies and amazing score.
Exquisite bit of filming this! I've just discovered it, and one of my all time fave. films, with two of the best actors you will ever see in your life. Gene Tierney was beautiful and no wonder Rex married 6 times, you don't need to ask why. Thanks for posting this. It is a masterpiece!
Dear God you should really be doing the menus loops for Blu-ray discs. This is fantastic.
thank you
Such an outstanding tribute to a wonderful film, and my favorite. I can only imagine what a beautiful and passionate couple Daniel and Lucy would have made if circumstances had been different. Thanks again! :)
Music brings tears to my eyes
I have seen this movie more than 100 times, it is probably my very best favorite. It is funny, sad, touching and oh so romantic. The script is really good., the music haunting, the sets, and all I could write a book. However, I think my days as a hospice nurse were most influenced by the last scene. "Now you will never be tired again" wouldn't be wonderful, if upon our death we were met by the most important person in our life and lead off into the beyond? Works for me!
Magnificent
One of my favourite films. You've done a brilliant job of editing the film clips and music.
Incredible music by Bernard Hermann ... conducted by ELmer Bernstein.
My second all time favorite movie. The music is one of the best soundtracks ever.
They're in touch with what the majority of the people today want, what they'll spend their money on to go to the movies to see it and then buy the DVD.
A perfect movie - one of my very favorites-- beautiful melancholy
my favourite part is when Rex Harrison quotes John Keats!!
The music perfectly captured the melancholy feel of this film
@rainstormz28 Have you ever heard the lines from the Johnny Cash song,
Ever Since Time Nothing's Ever Been Found That's Stronger Than Love.
Gene and Rex coupled with R.A.Dicks story and Herrmann's Haunting score under the Direction of Mankiewicz created this timeless and haunting classic, one I never grow tired of.
Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues always reminds of this movie for some reason
Thank you for this beautiful homage to what has become my favorite film, beating even Fellini's La Strada for its combination of elegiac beauty and sadness. From the opening chords over the Fox logo, to the scene in the kitchen with her grown daughter Anna, this has to be the most melancholy, haunting piece of music ever written.
I find this movie to be soo romantic, and enchanting!!!! Rex Harrison is fabulous in this movie. Gene Tierney is as always beautiful and sweet!!! Thank you soo much for posting this Awesome tribute video!!!
love that film' i seen it for my first time about 6 or 7 years ago and its already in my top 10' hey look i was only around 21 at the time so give me a break :)
Excellent Edit
Cry my eyes out every time I watch this film when I hear the music
Thanks for putting together such a great tribute to such a wonderful classic! I found this video very helpful as I am planning to build Gull Cottage in miniature and this has great pics of outside and inside views. Thanks so much!!
This movie captures a sense of the eternal in our quest for love. Whether or not literally true, we feel that, and want to feel that; and is that not what really matters? The Bernard Hermann composition adds greatly to this feeling. A movie that moves us deep within is rare, but this is one of them. Unfortunately, movies with subtlety, nuance, tenderness, intelligence, grace, wit and charm are all too rare today.
i too have always adored this movie, and never tire watching it. I too am a hospice nurse, maybe one day we will meet when this time has past and discuss our patients, until them, happy travels. From Missouri
