The actual advantage of high voltage RCA is it is much better at defeating interference. It doesn't do anything practical to the actual wave form being sent outside of this.
@@breakerbroke23yeah, it lets your floor for gain be lower, if that's what you mean by head room.. but this is a function of power. If you need more head room you should have a more powerful amp.
A CD player has a very high output (2V). Much higher in fact than a line level tape deck (under .5V) so some CD players can on occasion overdrive the inputs of some line level preamps. To expect any device to have an output as high as a CD player is asking a bit much; nor would you want it to as you can run into overload problems. An output equivalent to a cassette deck is the perfect voltage to drive most preamps and receivers.

From my iPhone I can send audio almost through out the whole house. So 40+ feet through walls. this technology is getting better every day.
