    That really did make quick work of mowing that area, and the cut quality was so much better that a single spindle cutter. Nice combination with the tractor and the TS10. Plus, a fun time! Thanks to you both. Blessings.

      I agree. The higher horsepower versions of each size of machine certainly rule the roost when it comes to mowing. I really like the looks of the new Kubota LX4020 for that reason. If you’re going to have horsepower beyond emissions thresholds, there’s not much reason to not try to push that limit a bit. I.e., I can’t think of a reason to buy a 44 52 or 66 hp 4 series when there’s a 75. What am I missing?

      In he LX case, the tractor itself is not suited for the larger HP in my opinion. Refer to our videos where we try to hook it to the TS10.

    If the roughness is due to the clump grass, more frequent mowing can help. When mowed frequently, the clumps tend to disappear as the grass adjusts. You could also spot spray the largest clumps with Roundup to let finer grasses take their place.

But they are defiantly a HP trap backing up turning I can hit breaks to go forward mower will pull me straight. Not to mention how much power you need when getting into 5ft over growth . I think a good safety note to anyone looking to buy one is you really need 50% more HP then minimum rated they are just heavy. I am pulling mine with a 96 horse tractor and the mower would love another 80 horses of tractor lol

      I ran a 6170r on a CX 15 and that thing would run it in 1000ptoE and not even break a sweat. That was mowing palmetto in South Florida. A 6130M is pretty standard for a 15ft cutter in heaver conditions. My town uses 5100m and Shulte 15ft cutters to mow right of way. But they keep up with it so it's really only half a step above a lawn.

    Great mowing video. I have no experience in that type of mowing with a cutter like that. So I can’t really say much, other than it does a nice job. I do have a 6’ rear discharge finish mower that works great and cuts just as good as my garden tractor mowers. Mentioning garden tractor mowers, most are hydrostatic. Even my old ones are, 40 to 50 years old. And for mowing hydrostatic is the answer, no matter what machine your using. Just my opinion.
    Have a great day. Looks nice there.
    Oh, and my guess for air pressure in the tires is 12 psi. That’s what I’d put in. Just my thought.

    Tim, at 20:10 you state there is no shift on the go with the 5E, which is not correct. you select your range at a stop just like the hydro drive. you can select your gear (1,2,3, or 4) while on the move by simply pressing in the foot clutch.

    That option for the loader suspension think its like $700 is looking pretty good right now huh? People say they like to mow without the loader but i actually prefer it. It allows me to move stuff out of the way (downed branches and such) without having to get out of the cab. Is there Rim Guard in the wheels? It can act as a huge damper with correct air pressure as you mentioned to quell the bounce. Great content as always! Thats pretty close to a dream combination for me to own at some point.

    Cut that grass really short. Rent a large top dressing machine and get you a whole lot of sand. Spread the sand all over the area and drag a chain linked fence all over the sand to get it to level in the low areas. This will smooth the area out. You can repeat the process over and over until it is as smooth a glass. Make sure the sand is super dry.

    Regarding the wheel base, are those short wheel base tractors more prone to roll overs than the longer wheelbase tractors? I recall the issues with the Jeeps that have a "square" footprint (i.e., wheel spacing about as long as wide). Hills are the norm in my area and the times I've spun wheels are countless. I also vividly recall a near roll over on a Gravely Commercial tractor back in the 70s that I saved by sticking a leg out and pushing off while turning down hill.

    I have a 5065E which I use mainly for mowing and moving round bales. My question is, how would you compare the two tractors (4052/4075 and 5075 for these jobs? I see the advantage the 4 series has for mowing, but will the shorter wheel base make moving bales more difficult?

    I know of 2 brothers that bought a new LS tractor and they mowed some huge fields and didn't know to keep the radiator screen clean and burnt up the motor and hst but do you know the dealer had it taken care of and it cost the 2 brothers nothing. I would never get that kind of luck, in fact the dealer went over this with me. My screen doesn't exactly come out easy without taking the support out for the air cleaner.

    On a serious note, after listening to the feedback from both of you, what would be the ideal? The weight and wheelbase of the 5 series with a hydrostatic? Or do you prefer the size of the 4 series. I’m betting if they could make a 5 series size machine with a hydro it would sell like hotcakes.

      I think the four series is more nimble, tighter turning radius and i think more responsive in closer quarters, woods or areas with more obstacles compared to the 5 series. Of course the the 5 series with a hydrostatic drive would ride better and would perform well in more open areas, where maneuverability and obstacles would not be a big issue. it could be an interesting proposition..

    Air ride seats are not all they are cracked up to be i prefer spring seats with hydraulic dampers or as some call them shock absorbers . And yes running the tire pressure lower will help on the bumps 10 - 15 psi in the rear tires should be fine if your not carrying any implements on the three point hitch.

    I guess some other questions are, is there anything this tractor can do that the 4066 has trouble with? Similarly, does this do anything the 5075 can't? Does this tractor have a target audience like the HD models?
    I'm a 4066 owner, and let's be honest, I want this one (I think it would also be zero-rated in Canada, meaning no sales tax), but at the same time it seems like the 4066 would do everything this would do just fine. If you want even more power, you go up to the bigger 5-series chassis. I suppose this is quite a bit cheaper than the 5-series.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  Рік тому

      Targeted to snow removal. I suspect the ‘zero rated’ is intentional.

    Could you put the 3 and 4 series tractors side by side for a size comparison? It would be interesting to see the physical differences in stance and height between the two. Are they nearly the same build and stature with only the 4 series having a larger motor?
    Have you had to put wheel spacers on the 4075R for better stability? I had to put 3"-wheel spacers on my 3039R as it nearly flopped on it's side while loading a trailer and rear tire dipped into a hole. Luckily, I felt it start to lean and lowered the bucket rapidly to the ground and put it back on all 4 wheels before it flopped over. Had I been up to the trailer and actually loading, I'm not sure I could have saved it. But had just enough room to lower the loader to the ground and save the tractor. Ordered the wheel spacers the very next day. Haven't regretted it for a moment.

    I noticed what you said about being able to vary the speed more easily with the Hydro transmission...
    And... your not in hilly ground.
    Would I be wrong to point out that with a 5075e... you can use the hand throttle... which to me is more precisely adjustable than the foot throttle... but has the added advantage of... engine braking... IE... if you're going down a hill and its feeling a bit squirrelly you can slow down with the trottle and leave the pedals alone... which keeps it in gear... cause you know the tractors not going to move faster than the transmission will let it go.
    Transmission better at holding tractor back than brakes.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  Рік тому +1

      Slowing the hand throttle slows the mower speed, reducing cut quality.
      Hydrostatic slow down maintains RPM and therefore does not hinder cut quality.
      Hydrostatic transmission acts as brake as well when you let off the pedal. It will be equally effective, or nearly as effective as gear transmission in that regard.
      In our next demonstration video, we will show the hydrostatic transmission at its ‘weak spot’ which is pulling ground engaging attachments.
      Meanwhile, I strongly believe that Hydrostatic is superior (FAR superior) to a straight gear drive tractor when mowing or using similar PTO attachments.

      @@TractorTimewithTim when I thought about it, I realized... while my PTO may get up to like 580 in my 5075, lowering the throttle might lower my pto to 540-520... over all you're right.
      Is there a hydrostatic 75 or so hp tractor that's big enough that a 5ft round baler wont push it around on hills and that lifting those bales wont get it off balance. I'm the southwestern corner of Va... nothing is flat
