Hey legends, I hope everyone is doing well, particularly if you're in lockdown. As I mentioned in the vid, considering this is how I earn income and after speaking to the authorities, I'm very fortunate to be able to continue to get out there and make these vids for you all for the time being (note: I won't be going regional. Just within the Sydney basin). I hope everyone is well and staying safe and fingers crossed that these lockdowns lift soon so we can all get back out and do what we love. Take care folks. Oh, and don't forget to subscribe! (Help me get to 100k!) 😉 🤙
On the odd chance you look at this to respond. What do you do to 'water proof' or seal your pack? I think I noticed a video where you waxed and heated with the hair dryer.
Can I ask Scotty is it part of the Kurangai Chase National Park System ? ,It looks familiar or are you keeping it to yourself so the idiots out there won't vandalised or create havoc out there with fire etc. ? Eels are tricky to catch you have to play with your bait . Sometimes you have to go where there is running water & they inhabit the deeper pools . As for bait they will eat anything but sometimes you just have to go up & down the banks to find them . I've only caught them In estuaries or fast moving creeks & played with the bait & when you catch them especially fresh water ones , you have to make sure you snag them well or they'll chew through the line ! I'll be checking out those knives kits & I am lucky I live out near the Grampians way but because of the weather it's too wet to go camping but am able to go hiking instead ! So keep on pumping out those vids & hopefully this virus will go away in time !
It's a sad situation and I hope you get back to some sort of normal soon in Australia. Good thing you are allowed to get out into the bush, must feel so good right now, and we get to enjoy some outdoor content on UA-cam. Best wishes from Sweden
I'm a 40 year old disabled guy from southern Sydney and during the lockdown I've made the choice to get into camping. I'm the type of guy that doesn't let my disability stop me from doing things. This lockdown has given me the chance to save some money so I'll be spending my money on camping gear. I'm also a youtuber so will be videoing my camping experiences for my UA-cam channel once lockdown is over.
Aloha from Hawaii. Scotty, you are my favorite UA-camr. Thank you for sharing the beauty of Australia. For me, what sets you apart is that you are a great storyteller. Great video, great storytelling, beautiful country and respect to the land. Thanks mate.
Hey Scotty! You need to leave that eel line out over night. They prefer to eat in the dark usually. Best to tie your line around a tree and check it in the morning. Make sure to use eel hooks (the red ones) to make sure you hook it properly. Take care mate! 🤙
Spitfires usually feed separately on gumtree leaves at night and during the day live in large groups - up to hundreds - clustered together on the branches of eucalypt trees. They live in these clusters
Scotty , my name is Mike and I am from Alberta , Canada . I watch EVERY VIDEO you have made ( I think lol ) we have a nasty winter for more than 6 months a year , so cold one might not even want to go outside . I truly enjoy every video , and LOVE to see your country and all it has to offer . I do explore here in my country , canoe trips every year . I'd like to thank you for all your hard work and the info I've learned . I could so live there buddy , just stunning!! And no snow lol well not like we get and the freezing Temps are crazy . -20 to -35 and the wind chill it's not uncommon to get as cold as -35 to -40 . . Again thank you for all you do . Take good care and look forward to the next video! Your biggest Canadian fan ! Mike .
Eel fishing. Use a big hook, eels have a tendency to inhale the bait and a big hook is easier to deal with. Set your hand line and stack some rocks on it so it can't be pulled in. Run your line around a branch or even grass. Something what will wiggle and wave around. If you have a fishing bell clip it to this. Thing with eels is its a waiting game. I get a line in straight away then set up camp. You don't need to be picky where you fish for eels. My priority is that I can keep an eye and ear out for the line from camp. One other tip is when I grab a eel I get a hand full of sand first, it helps grip the eel and soaks up some of the slime. Oh and if you are leaving your line avoid snaggy places, cast it in the open. But if you are going to sit there holding it cast towards snags and overhangs. Even small holes can hold large eels.
@@ScottysGoneWalkabout now worries. It's important to secure the line. If you leave it on a branch or sitting on a stick it will just free spin and you won't set the hook and they can get back into a snag. If you set it lying flat with a rock on top it stops this. You can use lighter rocks to set the drag too if you want as it will allow it to spin a bit with friction. I've caught eels, catfish and Mary River cod with this set up in the fresh.
From a lucky bloke who lives in WA, I hope you all stay safe and the lockdown ends for you soon. In case it comes to it, maybe you could consider a home base tutorial series of videos. I would like to see your channel continue. I wish you well and hope this madness finishes soon.
It’s good that you are able to do what you love. You sound like the ‘Ozzy’ version of Alan Titchmarsh with your botanical knowledge, but hey we’re never too old to learn. I have been back tracking your videos from 3 years ago and I have to say they have become my guilty pleasure. Dorset, UK
Hi Scotty, I grew up on the south coast so my advice is based on fishing around Morton NP and Jervis Bay NP, I have to say with eels, we would catch them ALL the time. They were the easiest to catch with rancid meat, in the deeper pools along the river banks. Particularly if there is a good amount of vegetation around. Great fun as a kid. On another note, we love your videos. When you get out of lockdown I recommend exploring Namadgi National Park. It’s local to my family now and it’s absolutely gorgeous with a good mix of alpine bush and plains. In fact, in March my daughter found a massive huntsman, I think possibly a female, on a tree, almost half the size of your pan, when we were camping up there. It was an absolutely beautiful spider and such an important part of our ecosystem. Enjoy your trips and thank you for creating these beautiful videos, our family has been stuck in doors when we much prefer to be outside and your videos literally lower the blood pressure. You should talk to ABC about picking you up, I think you would be a great addition to their content! Thanks mate.
Today on Scottys gone Cookouts, we are going to explore fusion cooking where duck meets cherry and tawny… stay tuned for next level bush cooking! Seriously, one of the best! Keep’em coming! Bryan from Vancouver
I've camped there a few times, how cools the BBQ and plate to the right of the camp up against the rocks. The water is always bloody freezing but we have some inflatable rafts hidden there 😉. Crazy how it's only 4km from the highway hey!
I can never be tired of hearing about grass trees. I don't know what it is about them, but when I'm camping next to them I feel like they are a sentinel. They look after me.
Kia Kaha to you all across the ditch. Love this channel, take care and stay safe. You guys do it a lot differently out in the bush than we do in nz but in the end who cares as long as you are out there.
Just got back from three day kayak river camping trip ni Croatia, I get strangely happy/sad after ending my camping trips and then I need a shot of that happiness again. So your channel just popped up and since yesterday morning I've watched at least a dozen of them if not more :) Awesome videos, awesome storytelling, awesome locations, and you yourself are really great and funny guy! Keep 'em coming Scotty!
Cracking mate. I am pleased you were able to get out in lockdown and treat the World to a better view. The spitfire bugs are actually a wasp mate, not a threat to humans. You seem to really find the top draw locations mate. Nice one.
We have just come out of six months lockdown, in the UK. However I don’t think it will be long before another lockdown is going to begin. Take care and keep safe. I grew up in whyalla, moved back to UK, miss Australia so much, so love your channel gives me the opportunity to see and hear all that Australia holds such a beautiful country. Xxx
Great to see this, as we are in lockdown again here in Melbourne, which stopped the adventure plans we had this weekend! Thanks Mate! Those caterpillars looked like spitfires to me.
Terrific video. And love the audio. Camping down under seems so different from the camping I do in Wisconsin, USA. It's intriguing how you explain the flora and fauna. Keep up the great work!
Waheyyy Scotty you just saved my Sunday morning. Got woken up early by our puppies and couldn't get back to sleep, and now I've got something to watch to kill the time!

We might have to try that one here at home.👌 Cheers mate. Look forward to the next one. Mattsy

Great video Scotty. Glad you can share with the rest of us in lockdown. I agree with your decision to go given you're not interacting with anyone on your trip and it helps the rest of us with new ideas. That knife is a beauty!
What with all the venemous spiders, snakes, salt water crocodiles, dingoes, etc. you still have to go through COVID to get out in the bush for a bit of relaxation. I think I'd call that "work" too Mate. Carry On!!
That tree at @2:40 is gnarly! lol Thank you for checking in with us arachnophobes! That was a gentle reminder why I'm not huge on camping, but wasn't he beautiful!

really needed this mate. thank you for the video. i been stuck at home like most of us for who knows how long now and its starting to get to me. this video was a good escape from reality. thank you scotty
Nice vid mate.. so jealous aye but good on you for being able to do what you do. Duck looked awesome. Tip for catching those eels.. try without a sinker.. just let it float by. You can spot them by shining a torch into the water after dark. Kids love it.
Yum! ….now I’m definitely putting duck breast on my next shopping list! (and cherries) So glad for you to be able to get out and camp in the current conditions.

glad you can still get out, we just have to live through your vids for a bit. enjoy and keep em coming! the cherry sauce looked like a great idea btw, well done!
Great vid as always, subscribed, liked and even watched the ads ( this helps you doesn’t it?). Love that you cleared the air about lockdown at the get go, stopped any haters right there. I’m wondering if anyone has ever had a dry night using a bivy, seems they always get lots of condensation.
Great video Scotty! Australia was never on my list of places to see until I found your channel man. Well done! Stay safe and thank you for these awesome videos! Bless!
Great vid as always. The duck and cherry sauce looked fantastic. God i miss getting into the bush. It's a unique place with interesting wildlife and loads of these pretty waterways. Watching your adventures are helping hugely with the frustrations of lockdown here in Sydney. Cheers Scotty

I am in lockdown currently in Surry Hills and this was incredibly relaxing to watch and enjoy! We will get back to exploring as soon as possible hopefully. In the meantime thank you for continuing to produce content for us to watch and escape just a little :)
glad you can still get out, we just have to live through your vids for a bit. enjoy and keep em coming! the cherry sauce looked like a great idea btw, well done!
Great vid as always, subscribed, liked and even watched the ads ( this helps you doesn’t it?). Love that you cleared the air about lockdown at the get go, stopped any haters right there. I’m wondering if anyone has ever had a dry night using a bivy, seems they always get lots of condensation.
Great vid. Thanks for sharing.
Great to see a new one Scotty. I hope you and your wife are doing well. Always good to see videos from down under here in Saskatoon Canada.
That Geebung was Persoonia Levi and has medical uses as well as a food. Cheers
Great video Scotty! Australia was never on my list of places to see until I found your channel man. Well done! Stay safe and thank you for these awesome videos! Bless!
Dude that Duck looked so BOMB!!! for sure one of your best cooks! Cheers from California Scotty!!!!
