From what I've heard, MP Skids was made specifically to celebrate some anniversary for Skids' alt mode, the Honda City Turbo. So it's less-so a Masterpiece celebrating Skids as it is a Masterpiece celebrating a car that happens to turn into Skids. That's why the Alt mode is so detailed and toy-accurate, as opposed to the modern masterpiece cartoon-accurate style. It's meant to celebrate the real-world car, not the cartoon robot. So, as amazing as the coincidence is, I think it's safe to say that the Skids Retrospective didn't impact the release of the Masterpiece.
@@zeroblade6599 Honda Jazz was actually gonna be called Honda Fitta, but theres a problem with that. You see, some words have different meaning depending on where in the world you are, and in some cases, like in this one, the word Fitta in Scandinavian languages means female reproduction part, and then theres spare parts for the car for all the world to buy. So of course the teens would buy a logo of that calling it a Pu**y mobile. Theres your requested fun part.
For an expensive toy, emulating an expensive vehicle is the way to go, rather than emulating the animation model of a cheap weekly cartoon. And, yes okay, it might be a cheap car, but it's still a car. :)
I’m sure people have already said this, but I think watching Jobby’s review on that Bold Forms Gladius is probably the best way to get an idea of how that piece of crap functions.
@@acemarvel1564 I think that is what they were getting at, yeah. Why are so many G1 characters such oddly specific and noticable cars? Why are Mirage and Wheeljack based one unique individual race cars?
Feels like Thew should review both Legacy and Masterpiece skids in a single video. Or maybe he just doesn't out of fear it will unleash the Skidpocalypse
Oooh, I do wanna see you review that third party Megatron. Usually I'm not about the negativity parade but that thing sure looks like it'd be interesting to explore. Like, it's got the tank and gun mode and there was clearly some neat idea that just doesn't look like it worked out at all.
As soon as I saw Bold Forms Gladius, I started seeing the video Jobby did like it was an old war flashback. Break out the marinara sauce, cuz you’re in for some spaghetti engineering.
Imagine being bored and opening yt and you see that Thew uploaded 8seconds ago. Time to watch someone get gifts that would've made 10y old me pass out from excitement.
That MP-01 takes me back. Still have mine with the exact same short stacks and battle damage. I love it and it was nice to have a tiny Megatron in gun mode with it, but I hated how the included stock for Megatron crumbled at the connection point.
1:15 shattered glass thew: "i hate light piping, skids deserves nothing, i will ONLY review BUMBLEBEES from now on." all while serene calming music plays braces and band merch sounds like a cool band name
Love the idea of the motorbike mega review because you're right, its an interestingly varied set of transformations. And, as a guy who spent a lot of his childhood hunting down ragged copies of Transformers UK at carboot sales, "toy colours" Galvatron is "proper colours" Galvatron and I like that its become a more common repaint in recent years.
mp 1 is my favourite g1 Optimus figure, it's a very impressive update of the g1 toy feelings with gorgeous paint, metal, pistons etc, that still manage to transform
That Optimus is the US release of MP01 called Thrilling 30s Masterpiece Optimus. The upgrade set for it is just longer smokestacks they had to cut in case somone decided to chuck it towards one of their eyes. Its a great figure honestly, it has something the other Optimuses is missing, and that is a transformation true to the cartoon without being a chore.
Almost forgot about Kingdom Road Rage. Gonna have to get my hands on one. I also recognized that Megatron box instantly. I actually let out an audible, "NO!", fearing your sanity. Have "fun" with that thing.
Thanks for tossing this out today, really needed something to cheer me up! Giveaways this time are super exciting, looking forward to your take on Skids!
I didn’t notice the suspenders, I’m getting Oxhorn vibes now lol. I’d say it suits you pretty well. Also yessss the only Megatron that was inspired and designed under the influence of Guinness
Lol, so happy to hear the Catatonia reference, I made the same joke with my friends and then remember that I live in the USA now and once more just sounded like a weirdo! MP Skids is a beauty! I even managed to get my meaty claws on a prototype.
"Are you the guy on twitter who keeps talking to me about Weezer" feels like such a damning question and I love it. I don't know why that's what tickled my funny bone at midnight tonight, but Thanks Thew for... that I guess?
Good god I love that Meshuggah album. When Stengah kicks in its a beast. I used DKFH for years. Thomas Haake is such an incredible drummer. Learning to play Bleed opened so many doors for me. How he came up with a 7 minute song full of that stuff that is beyond me.
That's Hasbro's 25th Anniversary Prime. They had to cut the smokestacks off the MP Prime, as they were hard plastic, to meet US toy safety at the time. I think it was sold for around $50 USD back then.
Off on a tangent, but I'd completely forgotten how much I used to love Road Rage (the song). And my headcanon now is that Road Rage (the robot) fronts an Autobot alternative rock band.
Seeing that box reminds me of when I was a kid and was almost able to get an og thundercraker at the Walmart near my house. Ended up not but man I wish I had it.

honestly that's so skids, to be basically incidental to his own Masterpiece toy
Wasn't that also called the honda jazz? I feel like there's a joke in there

Agreed
For sure.
Hm yes the Guinness bot.
Its rare to see a transformer turn into an economy class cruiser like a minivan and thats what makes skids unique
I really wish we had a transformer that turned into something like a Ford Focus or a VW Golf or something. Normal Cars are oddly lacking.
Sadly Skids isn't a minivan. He's a Honda City Turbo which are hatchback convertibles. Rather small vehicles but they were meant for Japans roads.
@@Andulvar looks kind of like one
@@TheSmart-CasualGamer I know but wouldn’t a normal car be more inconspicuous? Robots in disguise remember

The type of arrangement of words I live for.

Good vibes are sent, Thew always cheers me up when I'm down
You know you're in a good place when someone makes a Histor's Eye reference.
Skids getting more love because he's kinda an adorable dork.
The minute I saw the Bold Forms Gladius box pop out of the bubble wrap, I had World War 2 flashbacks to Jobby’s video…
That Megatron smirking face has big "farted in an elevator" energy
Sees bold forms gladiolus:
Jobby the Hong : *SCREAMS IN AGONY*
Everyone bangs on these days about 'articulation' and even now, decades after his debut, Skids is still the master of _alt-mode_ articulation.
The most amazing transformation this video is the haircut.
Honestly 2010 Brimstone is probably one of, if not the best bike bot.

Stickers applied: Toy accurate
Stickers unapplied: Comic accurate
Why do I get the feeling that one of these days there’ll be a Dammit Open where Thew gets sent a blue Honda City Turbo 😂
When I saw Boldforms Gladius I leapt out of my seat like it was a jumpscare in a horror movie.

OMG! I’d pay to listen to your Prime talking about music mp01 thingy. This is the best thing ever, literally!!! ❤️
I, for one, would be very excited to see a Thew video about the history of motorcycle transforming figures

15:35 oh hell yeah Divebomb reference, my favourite Energon toy
That optimus Impression was a-mazeing
That prime / Peter c impersonating was pretty good. Loved it
Thew wearing a shoulder holster containing an Megatron at random would be a fun gag I suppose.

mp 1 is my favourite g1 Optimus figure, it's a very impressive update of the g1 toy feelings with gorgeous paint, metal, pistons etc, that still manage to transform

I am not passing up a chance at Road Rage, fell in love with the character when Chris McFeely did his Basics video on her.
