"They're used to manipulating your down-and-out, vulnerable type" - I appreciate the honest nature of Zag, tho I did feel it. So Jonah has to go on his own it seems. It's kinda fitting considering it's about his lost memory.
Yea he deserves to know more without gabby or anyone else breathing down is neck and inserting their opinions or their own confusing narrative in it

It’s interesting how Zag talks about Cam. He’s cynical and gruff, but that quip about Cam being manipulative seemed out of pocket even for him, and it looks like Gabby thought so too. I wonder what history they all have together.
Maybe the game is manipulating/twisting them/their feelings making them more out of character/hostile?
I mean I think he has a point. Video games (at least 1990s PC adventures) are made with a set , linear, progression. If you don’t do what the game wants you to do it just doesn’t move on. That’s it.
From Zags point of view, (coming from a more passive medium), video games would seem a lot more involved & ‘manipulative’ than a TV show.
not really related but Cam gives me Miquella vibes from elden ring, so mysterious and apparently helpful and kind, even though there might be a darker side to them.
I can see why they prefer to be in shows, being in a game seems way more complex and limited

Okay, so Cam probably did something before this that Zag *really* didn't like that goes beyond their personalities clashing. And while technically Jonah is going in without backup, he's not going in alone: Francis and Francine are still there.
I think Cam's Fran is probably still somewhere, but the rules about going between the different media aren't very clear.
I love the faith Gabby has in Jonah, it's so sweet.
Zag’s comment about Cam manipulating vulnerable types makes me wonder if Zag knows something we don’t.

Gabby breaking the laws of the game by moving her portrait's sprite so fluidly is cute lol.
I love how the feathers moved similar to how her Rabbit ears would have.
I dont know why but i have this strange feeling that it won't be gabby or zag who gets hurt, but rather Jonah himself whos going to suffer some sort of consequence? And Zag in the season 2 finale said something about "having a guy on the outside 'again'." Which suggests they stopped having outside help for some unknown reason, i could be overthinking this but something just tells me Jonah isn't safe if he continues to play this. Is it just me?
I'm not sure how Cam could hurt Jonah through the game, unless they do something to Gabby. It does seem like they're lampshading that Cammy is a special kind of character from the two Angel Hares we've met prior, and since Cam knows Segen it's very possible they already knows who Jonah is. I'm curious to see if Cam has words for him. Maybe they'll try to teach him a lesson by making him confront his past via the trials or puzzles of the game.

@@Jacobrobotics It could very well be Cam's got a mean streak too. If we take Francine at her word that a Fran doesn't peace out unless they're fired or they quit, assuming Cam didn't dismiss their Fran it's possible whatever Cam was doing or telling Segen and the way they run their game isn't something their Fran could abide. I still don't know if Cam could physically hurt Jonah, but physical pain isn't the only way to hurt someone.

I just realized Gabby's feathers on her hat and Zagriel's golden feathers on his helmet are supposed to be their rabbit ears in a way. Especially with Gabby's expression in 2:15
The stakes, the heart pounding excitement, the tension and anticipation of what is to come is building to the absolute peak. Beyond the masterclass animation and effort infused to each element(animation, technical prowess, voice acting, music), the attention to detail and quality in the writing lays out the framework of how magnificent season 3 is turning out. I love the balanced focus we have of the cast, Gabby, Zag, Jonah, Francis, and Francine each have been given an important role and are given delightful moments in the spotlight, and I wait with joy to see the trials and endeavors Jonah will have to go through. in the previous season Jonah's ultimate sentiment was that he didn't need answers as long as he could get Gabby back.
I feel like this might be the season Jonah might at least get some answers, but it will come at the cost of facing who he was during a deeply repressed part of his childhood.
I've got to appreciate Jonah's character growth. He's no longer afraid of facing unfamiliar territory. Seems that here, his resolve is going to be tested more than ever.
So Jonah’s going in on his own. Interesting to see where this goes.

@@TheLycanthrope09 I think it might just be because video games are viewed as a passtime or a way to unwind, at least by Zagzagel. When you make a job out of having to solve mysteries (a very high-stakes job at that) you don't wanna come home and try to relax by having to solve even more cryptic puzzles that text adventure/point-n-click games are known for.
Maybe because a videogame puzzle is a forced mystery. Mysteries are just the lack of answers, and detectives look for the answers to bring order back. Puzzles are made up situations, with specific solutions that are purposely ofuscated.
Take in mind that adventure games can be infamous for, sometimes, having moon logic answers to overly complex, made up situations. So, yeah, i can understand Zag's perspective here.
@@gabriellleonster8719 Actually yeah, adventure game solutions would absolutely drive a detective bonkers. Let alone willingly trying to have fun by trying to solve video game puzzles, instead of doing it to right wrongs and solve crimes.
Y'know, that youtube lets-play guy DID mention that there was a "good ending" that required the player to help an old lady get her apple. Perhaps that should be investigated by the gang? Just a hunch, but its worth considering.
Google tells me that hyraxes have been referred to as "rock badgers" or "coneys" (old-timey term for a rabbit) at various times. Super interesting. (I also remember from Kratts Creatures that they're the closest living relative to elephants!) This seems like intentional symbolism.
Each episode is better than the one that came before and also it's weird seeing Francine in a car and from the looks of it it's a pretty fancy one
I think we are finally getting to the part where playing around with forces a man can barely understand backfires and I am HERE for it.
Its pretty cool seeing Gabriel and Jonah talking like a mother and son. It shows how much she's grown to love and trust him, and while he's grown and has orders of his own now he'll always be that boy who she saved

Just like Luke stepping into the cave on Dagobah, Jonah goes into the darkness to confront a ghost. And you know what, something tells me that this game… is far from over
Okay, this is getting more and more interesting. Cam wants to one and one Jonah alone, not Gab and Zag. He/she has an entire control over how the game should be played. And Cam's Fran just left, which judging by the conversation between our two Frans seem to suggest that his/her departure is the fault of Cam. Now the angels are stuck behind the cave section and there's only Francis and Francine to communicate with, I wonder what kind of path Jonah would go! I'm just need to watch the next episode right now man I can't seriously wait for this.
cam uses they/them and their fran (presumably(idk 4 sure)) uses he/him. gabby and zag refer to cam w/ they/them so that’s probably what they go by. they also call cam’s fran by he/him in this ep if i remember correctly.

There's something so sweet about how they worry for Jonah. I compare it a lot but she really is like a mom to him, and knowing that, makes the fact that she let Jonah go, really highlights her faith in him. Honestly the mystery part is great, but if you told me the rest of the series was just gonna be her treating Jonah kindly, id gladly take it

Says the _detective archetype!_ Runarounds and puzzles of intrigue are your genre's bread and butter (or I guess bread and fish if we're hip-deep in Biblical themes).
Okay I have a rather interesting question: Why did these angels take the forms of Angel Hares specifically? Why rabbits of all creatures?

Well, only gabby did (seemingly by choice since she had a man on the outside make her show). zag possessed his detective show, only becoming an 'Angel Hare' when he needed to blend into the show Gabby was last seen in. now their both possessing characters from within the game, molding their forms to match the media they jump into.
The whole Rabbit-Persona concept was originally just Gabby’s thing for her show, before things got complicated with Jonah and the Internet. Every Angel chooses their form and medium to secretly help people. Zag doesn’t particularly care for his Rabbit form, thinks it undercuts the hardboiled detective image from his show, but he had to use it to go undercover when Gabby went missing.
But to answer the broader question “Why would an Angel choose the form of a Rabbit?” Rabbits are mentioned in the Bible, though very sparingly. They’re mentioned in Leviticus (11:7) as one of the animals Not to Eat due to being unclean, and the name “Hyrax in the Rocks” is reference to Proverbs 30:26, where Hyraxes, which some translations change to Rabbits, are a metaphor for mankind. And of course Rabbits are a symbol of Easter, as a remnant leftover from some older European springtime traditions, but the association has been around long enough most people could just accept the idea of Rabbits as Godly creatures.

Having Jonah go on without Gabby or Zag feels so surreal, like the ending of Jonah's "arc" in a way. In season 2 he was without Gabby but he still had Zag, now he has neither (other than Francis and Franscine)

every time i see a premier of this amazing series, i get sad, because then i have to wait longer for the next one 😭
I feel your pain. This episode in particular had me blurt "REALLY?!" when it cut to the credits. This has got to be my favorite of season 3 thus far.
Huh. Interesting. Bit of a shorter one this time, but interesting nonetheless.
So, if Cam's in charge here... yet there's empty streets, missing assets, the King seems lost and lonely and without hope...

Lonely at the top and they couldn't stand it anymore perhaps? Tired of waiting for someone to beat it "correctly" or satisfyingly? But then, if the game adapts... why is that exactly? Sure, you get a slightly different experience each time, but clearly VultureWare knows what he's doing enough to create a walkthrough for it, meaning there's most likely only a few different spots to get X or Y item... is Cam perhaps trying new things to shake things up? Get a reaction out of someone? Segan? Jonah? The Angel Hares? Some might argue that it's a trap, but why?
(OOC: I love the look and feel of Hyrax on the Rocks, and am sad this isn't a real thing, or we don't have access to the "full" VultureWare videos ;) )
If Cam is still in the game and able to manipulate it, then they’re probably able to fix any glitches or shortcuts from happening. They were willing to let Gabby and Zag tag along up until Jonah started with the cave and made sure that no further cheating could occur. Maybe it would be best to go back and follow the instructions given by the king.

I appreciate that Gabby called out the fact that manipulating and communicating through a game requires a much different mindset than using shows. Also, yeah: Zag doesn't trust Cam. At all.

I wonder if angels and Frans have control of the fourth wall of their digital or interactive mediums. like controlling the camera angles, transitions and fades, filters, making text appear, (maybe even in this case of this season) manipulating the game mechanics to their benefit or favor?

That's a pretty scary idea, that the game code can technically still malfunction and run improperly, leaving behind Gabby and Zag if Jonah were to move onto another scene.
Each episode has me more hooked than the last.
I like how there's extra feather on the head after Gabby went into the game.
The game format is really neat, the user input type will allow some creativity. I expect Camael will probably jumpscaring Jonah lol

Disc 1 makes us assume that Cam had a breakdown of sorts, things went terrible and now Jonah is on a rescue mission.
But, among other things, that's not quite what the trailer suggested.
So what if? What if Cam was fine, she and her vic- targ- Jonah's friend were in good terms? What if this whole thing was a setup, an intervention on Jonah's behalf instead? A crumb trail to shake his memories a tad.
We interpret the missing assets, the loneliness as expressions of Cam's situation. Another interpretation I considered was, instead, Jonah's friend's state of mind. But honestly, the answer then would simply be to go and shake his hand, not play video games. So instead, let's consider Jonah's past. When would he have been at his loneliest?
I wouldn't underestimate Cam'.
I love the side monitors having our friends watching from outside. Also, how did I not connected that both their names start with Fran…
So Jonah is forced to leave Gabby and Zag at the cave, a part he skipped to..
If Cam is in control of the game, and wants Jonah to play a specific way. Tbh it almost seems like Cam was punishing Jonah for "cheating" by skipping ahead to the cave in the previous episode.

Could be. But I think it might also to just, separate Jonah from Gabby and Zag. (No reason it can't be both though.) But good thing he still has Francis and Francine. One soft and gentle, another sharp and wise.

The word ‘fired’ in the context of an Angel inhabiting a domain they express almost total control over carries… a rather dark connotation. How is one ‘fired from their post’ in a digital realm? I think there’s a clear answer in another story that involves a sentient video game character… 😰

Man this almost feels like an anime/manga series, coming back to each episode periodically with each one having some sort of cliffhanger makes me feel that way at least
It just occurred to me; if Camael won’t let Gabby and Zag through, they could just pop back into their respective shows, and then Jonah could technically take them along with him without Camael blocking them.
So if we had two tv shows called "Angel Hare" and "Wylde Hare" with the "hare" in each referring to the guardian in the media, but now we have a video game called "Hyrax in the Rocks" then would the "hyrax" be the guardian? Or is it a different kind of entity because it's a different animal? It does seem like it's acting as a game master of sorts, handling the commands and telling the player when they can't do something. Seems weird though that Gabby and Zag haven't said anything about it if that was the case
