I’m definitely no expert, but for me the biggest change in my playing has been actually studying music theory and understanding context and intervals, as in what note played on top of a given chord produces the sound or feeling you’re after.
@@jermainewilliams4685 if you don't have access to a great teacher, you could try out musictheoryforguitar.com's class on chords and harmony, I did that a while ago and learned a bunch about creating the sounds I want on the instrument!
