Trust me, a 68 year old guy, who has seen 2 full eclipses if you look at it directly for more than two seconds you'll have permanent eye damage (anything over that it will get worse up to full blindness; remember you've got only one pair of good eyes) If you don't want to buy a pair of overpriced "eclipse" glasses go find a (hardware) store that sells the (dark) glass piece used in (very) old school welding helmets, specifically and only these, for electric arc welding and use that for eye protection (again only use the glass piece for electric arc welding, nothing else....)
