FIENDISH FREDDY'S BIG TOP O' FUN | Commodore 64 (1990)

- Fiendish Freddy's Big Top O' Fun, for the Commodore 64 and the Big Top O' Fun circus is in deep trouble: due tonight is the payment of a $10.000 loan to the Big Greedy Bank. The evening's performance must bring in that money or the circus will be seized. The bank does not play fair, though: they send the evil clown Fiendish Freddy to sabotage the acts.
The performance consists of six different events. There is a practice mode for single events, and up to five players can compete in the full game, but must reach the $10.000 on their own, not together. The money is awarded by a jury after each act.

FIENDISH FREDDY'S BIG TOP O'FUN
is a brilliant circus game from Chris Gray 😺👍🕹️.
I have never played the Commodore 64 version of this game,
but i did play the Amiga version 😺👍🕹️.
The graphics are amazing 😺👍🕹️.
Even the animated sequences are nicely drawn 😺👍🕹️.
And the judges kept me laughing 😹👍🕹️!
The judge dudes are funny aren't they - this game still makes me laugh when I play it 😇🕹️👌
Aw man! I had this and had NOOOOO clue what I was supposed to be doing but the diving one has always remained in my memory as what the hell what that game!!!
Finally got it named! 🎉😂
Haha always good to unlock some nostalgic memories, hopefully this video helps with what you need to do on each event 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Will definitely be giving this a play through now to see what I actually missed out on!
Picked this up on a Gog sale a few weeks ago for around $1.99AUD!
Ah cool, always good to play these brilliant classics - looks superb on MS-DOS GOG version too 😇🕹️👌
I used to love this game as a kid, had it on the C64 then the Amiga. I don't think I ever successfully completed it though, it was hard as nails. The juggling especially, just baffling! But as you say, it was still fun even when you failed, which is just as well really!
Great fun isn't it especially with there being no real way to 'fail' each event, as it just carried onto the next one regardless... which I'm glad they did, otherwise I'd have been stuck on the 1st event for longer than I'd have liked! 😇🕹️👌
I played this one on the Amiga, certainly a classic game. Great video as always
Thankyou - yeah was equally as good on the Amiga, although still perfect enough on the humble C64 😇🕹️👌
Hilarious spoof of circus games! Bit of a graphical tour de force also for the C64, albeit with some weird color choices here and there.
A game that genuinely used to make me laugh back when I was 9 or 10 years of age, very memorable 😇🕹️👌
This game have amazing graphics for it's time and really pushed the c64 to it's limits 🙂
You're right, the graphics were superb and showed what the C64 was truly capable of producing 😇🕹️👌
Wow I totally forgot about this game! What a blast from the past 👍🏻
Hopefully this unlocked a few good nostalgic memories 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer it certainly did. 👌🏼
Perfect game for the instant load on cartridge .the multi load on tape would of been terrible . I enjoyed the great graphics and gameplay back in the day
Gah! Imagine having to run this from cassette tape... it would have been even harder to bear than the massive loading times on Dragons Lair! 😇🕹️👌
for a second i thought i had not played this, but the knife throwing at the spinning lady, that was somehow stuck in mind :) one can only wonder why
Those balloons were pretty tough to hit! Some real fun events to be played in this game 😇🕹️👌
my kind of circus! Only thing better would be a Commodore game of the Theatre of the Macabre "Bloodsucking Freaks".
Interesting fact: Blood Sucking Freaks cast member was that of Viju Krem, the actress who played famed ballerina Natasha Di Natalie. Out on a hunting trip with her husband, Krem allegedly stepped unknowingly in front of her husband’s rifle and was killed by an accidental shot to the head. Hmmm sounds a bit suspect to me 😇🕹️👌
Totally the most mental game ever conceived ever in any games console ever i hope it's on my UBS stick
Haha yeah it sure is zany, but very enjoyable. Hopefully you can get yourself a copy and give it a whirl, it's a great game 😇🕹️👌
I played this on the Amiga, but the C64 version looks surprisingly good.
It played really well too and was responsive with the controls - I know the Amiga usually trumped the C64 with graphics but the playability was definitely there on the Commodore 64 version too 😇🕹️👌
The graphics on this are far better than you'd think would be necessary, especially given the raw terror of the game cover.
Oh yeah that cover art was terrifying wasn't it! 🤣 but the game itself is very good 😇🕹👌
Back in the day I love to play this game on cartridge
Superb set of games that came on that 4x compilation cart... good times 😇🕹️👌
And don't forget someone has sat down and programmed this there are some very deep games on the commodore 64 please find them for us to play cheers
Absolutely, stay tuned and we'll discover them all together 😇🕹️👌
With Freddy doing everything he can to sabotage the events, it's like he doesn't even _want_ his circus to be rescued.
EDIT: read the description, so it's not actually Freddy's circus, despite the game's title? Freddy was sent by the bank? They don't strike me as a reputable place to borrow from.
Haha yes Mr Tightwad from the bank sends Fiendish Freddy to sabotage the acts 😇🕹👌
Have to say, that cover art would have scared the crap out of me as a kid.
I agree! I never got to see the artwork the first time around as I only had the 4 in 1 cart with printed writing.... but yeah, I see what you mean entirely, thats some freaky looking clown right there! 😇🕹️👌
Again, I am surprised of the graphics on the C64. I don’t know if ai am the only one trying to spot where they use character art and where they use sprites etc.
Genius game this isn't it, brought some laughter into the home when we first played it thats for sure 😇🕹️👌
Don't worry. I guess they use multicolor character mode for the background, and maybe switch common colors when the raster hits the bottom part of the screen (to render the audience). Many foreground characters and animations are done with sprites. I'm almost sure they needed sprite multiplexing for that. I can't see any display issues so it is really well done
So the reason for the commodore 64 GS is because they had a bunch of old motherboards lying around and it was cheap and easy to drop them in a case and sell them but adding a keyboard would have been expensive and they didn't have them lying around.
I believe it was because they saw an opportunity to re-hash the motherboards into consoles like you say... however they were so blind to the upcoming 16-bit market, that it was ultimately a failure. Such a shame to see my favourite ever machine meet such a dreadful end 😇🕹️👌
I've never played this one. Having games separated by events reminds me of the Epyx olympic game series... but with a circus... and a twisted sense of humor. LOL
Definitely get an 'Epyx' games vibe playing this, another winner in my eyes for event style games and funny too 😇🕹️👌
heh I remember this... I don't remember doing very well at it though :D
A classic, especially amongst the late-comers to the Commodore 64 scene who had this bundled with their C64C & C64GS systems... very nostalgic 😇🕹️👌
Are you using aemulator on PC when you play and record or do you use the real deal or perhaps the great min/maxi?
Its the same as I use for my Live videos on Fridays (10.30pm GMT)... its much easier to run through PC where all of my games are instantly accessible together with any references I need etc 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Yeah it helps lot in making content, allthough you have to go hardcore sometimes and play the real deal? I know it's tempting to fast forward the loading screens but i has it's charm.
@@grumsproduktion4083 Emulators have the advantage they can switch between PAL/NTSC, 6581/8580 SID models and do a decent job scaling up 4:3 aspect ratio to name a few. That being said, nothing like playing on original hardware. It will cost and you need to modify quite a few things to get the best out of it (stabilize power supply, recap CRT's, buy the disk drives least prone to head degradation, ...) but all worth it imo.
Great game, I used to play this with my sister and have a good laugh throughout.
Love it, thise memories will never leave you. Pure nostalgia 😇🕹👌
Another one i've never heard of, but looks like a LOT of fun! I'm totally giving it a go later on. Chris Gray was one creative mofo.
Hopefully you enjoyed it, a good few laughs were had playing this back when I was a kid 😇🕹️👌
great graphics, haven't seen this before
You'll enjoy this game, it's funny in places and is a decent challenge to raise the $10,000 required to save the circus 😇🕹️👌
Really great looking game.
Graphically this was superb for it's day and such good fun to play. I know time hasn't been great on many games, but the playability factor is definitely still here with Fiendish Freddy 😇🕹️👌
Came to me with this dedicated cartridge. This was played and the Flimbo's Quest, which sadly didn't have the intro. Pitty i couldn't gather all players to win it.
I wish more of the 4 in 1 cartridges style cartridges were released. Software houses could have made a killing and they would have been super collectable 😇🕹👌
That Freddy is a real jerk lol
He was a pain in the backside thats for sure! 😇🕹️👌
Had this from a friend bootleg version hrs of fun with this
I love these mini-game types... a nice variety of fun events 😇🕹️👌
the cover is freaking scary... it needs an excorcism!!!
'The Power of Freddy compels you!!!' 🤣🕹👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer 🤣
30+ yrs later I'm still not able to pull off the juggling clown stage. The joystick controls are heavily flawed on that one.
Certainly a fiddly event and everytime I attempt it, whatever I am juggling always seem to go to the far left of the screen making it harder to catch anything 😇🕹️👌
Krass abgefahren!!! 👍😉
Verrückt verrückt verrückt 😇🕹️👌
The c64gs.... I remember seeing it for the first time and going.... HUH!?!?!? 😮 Commodore sure must have been desperate at that point.
Theres a saying.... they were 'clutching at straws', shame though... it was the end of such a superb time 😇🕹️👌
skate or die or 720 please.
Skate Or Die is one for the very near future 😇🕹️👌
