    I’m a descendent of Clan O’Sullivan and our clan leader Donal cam OSullivan bere fought along side the Spaniards in the siege of kinsale and were apparently garrisoned at our clans castle dunboy in Castletownbere. Until they lost at the battle of kinsale, and surrendered to the English and were sent back to Spain!

      My “black Irish” fled to Scotland. The women anyway…
      Adapted Ramsey “ garlic garden”.
      Kind of weird because Ramsey is in England as well…
      I bleed for the Spaniard

      @@yukongetit4603My grandfather is an O’Sullivan from Cork, but he died young after my mother was born. He married my O’Donnell grandmother from Donegal while he was on the run from fighting the British. So, we we didn’t know his family or his family history. We considered ourselves black Irish, thinking it was only from my Donegal grandmother’s side. I do show some Spanish dna despite all 4 grandparents being from Ireland during the 1920s.

    I was in the Greencastle Maritime museum the other day. They have the timbers structures from the siege trains that were carried by the La Trinidad Valencera.

    Very interesting to me. It happens that my surname Fuentes, very Spanish. However, my father Y chromosome DNA test showed that its origin is Irish, R-FGC5628/Y4010😳 Many O’Briens within that group. In the 1720s Pedro Fuentes was living in Cuba. I wonder if the ancestors changed their surname before he was born; or the surname belongs to a Spanish woman who had a baby with an Irish man. I wish to find out so bad! My daughter just came back from Ireland.

      Also a lot of Irish came to Spain. Red Hugh O'Donnell, the Irish hero, is actually buried in my town, Valladolid, you can see the plaque in the old convent where he was buried alongside Christopher Columbus. If you search Red O´Donell Valladolid, you´ll discover more. Furthermore, many Irish noble families moved to Spain, and since they were aristochrats in Ireland, they maintained that status in Spain. Those families have mainly remain as high figures of the military field until nowadays. In fact, one of this descendants, called Leopoldo O´Donell, ruled Spain alongside the Spanish Queen for a large period in the 19th century

    There must have been Spaniards who returned to Spain and others who wed Irish and had their names changed to avoid the British prosecutors.

      @@droneerfguf Thank you for your information Many Irish in America need to know this. They assume all Hispanics are Nubian or very Native American looking. I inform them of my ancestry: Argentine. Spaniard. Italian. German. And French and they think I am joking with them/lying to them. They also assume the word black Irish means Nubians mixed with Irish. Not the true definition. A Spaniard (European) mixed with Irish is the true definition of black Irish.

    • @droneerfguf
      @droneerfguf Рік тому +2

      @@rageoftheredphoenix Yeah. Furthermore, before the roman conquest, Celtic people lived in Spain. Then greek colonies arrived. Then romans conquered Spain and mixed with those celts. (Haven´t you heard about the Milesius myth?, that says that the celts arrived to Ireland from Spain). After the romans, the germanic visigoth invaded Spain too, and founded Toledo. After that, Muslims coming from Morrocco and Algeria conquered Spain too, and although there were some degree of mixing among Christians and Muslims, interreligious marragies weren't that common, and furthermore, Christian kingdoms reconquered the whole territory and expelled both the jews and the Muslims.
      So yeah, Spanish people usually have darker colors (as it happens in the whole south europe compared to the north). However, blue eyed and blonde native people can be found too.
      It is said that black hair, just like red hair (a part from blonde hair), are some differences among the Celtic people that made them be seen different from the germanic tribes since roman times. Otherwise they would be the same xd (physically, not culturally)

      @@droneerfguf The Spanish is my family have porcelain skin and dark hair from my grandmothers side. The ones from my grandfathers were very blonde and blondish. The ones from my mothers side tend to be even more lighter than my Argentine German grandfathers side. My great grandfathers parents looked like Benny hill and Margaret thatcher. My grandpa (the kid of those two) looked like Ted knight the tv star. His sister looked like Michelle pheiffer. His ancestry musty have had some Switzerland 🇨🇭 peoples in his roots. There was even a stereotypical Jesus Christ relative whom I saw when I was a preteen. The German Argentine grandfather (opa)had medium blue eyes and looked very much like George peppard, the actor. Very serious .The grandmas ,looked very much like Sophia Loren and the Italian Argentine Nonna looked very much like Minnie driver. A few times she appeared to resemble the actress Marisa tomei. One late relative( a giant )appeared to look like his father of Germanic decent. A Sam jones look alike. His brother, my other uncle, looked very similar to sly Stallone without the muscles definition. I am light /porcelain skin with dark hair and blue outlines in my eyes. A mix of blonde and brunette people. My late mother was born a blonde.A Hillary duff look alike. She later appeared to be a look alike for the late actress Natalie wood.

    Brian Nolan you are seeming fixated on the anguish of that time, it's unhealthy. Beyond that incident, take a look at what the Spanish left behind the riches they brought even posthumously. They thru their children left behind some strong bloodlines in descendants with raven hair. Some becoming very important people.

    Of course these Spanish soldiers came to Ierland on their own account to hug the Irisch and share their red whine with them. Elisabeth didn't want the Irisch to enjoy all that and killed the Spanisch only to discourage them to try party with the Irisch again. She was sooo jealous!
