Damn, a brand new sand crawler cost the same as a single x-wing? Crazy. Seems like the metal it's made of alone would cost more. Either x-wings are way better than I realized or sand crawlers are shittier than they look.

Well, brand new fighter jets can cost 100 million dollars each. A contemporary vehicle to the sandcrawler might be something like a bucket wheel excavator like Bagger 288, which casts as much.

The yearly swap meets would also be a chance to exchange tribe members and prevent inbreeding - human tribes did the same (some that have survived still do)
As for why they are on Arvala - 7, most likely some Jawas got their hands on a planetary database and look for a planet similar to Tatooine, and that has the added advantage of _no Sandpeople._
With their main threat not present they can expand their population without predation.
It's like ancient humans finding a map that shows a new land where there are no big predators, except instead of constructing canoes, they turn their entire village into a ship and then turn it back into a village once on the other island.
Scrap a Freighter, install the space bits, get to Arvala - 7, remove and sell the space bits to the local humans for supplies and their sandcrawler is now on a Sandpeople free planet.
Unless the little buggers were employed by a galactic mining company and transported to several desert worlds, and the company went bust, leaving them stranded with the company assets.
Kind of makes sense, they are hardy and suited for desert survival, and their small size makes logistic easier - you can't stick a dozen humans in a closet unless you chop them into fine pieces first, and then their usefulness as employees is seriously downgraded. But Jawas would make low cost employees for a company that was working on the margins and needed low overheads.

I independently came up with the second theory: that Jawas are not native to Tatooine and were brought there (and to many other worlds) by an interstellar mining corporation either as workers or slaves. Once the company went belly-up, every planet they were present on had one or more tribes of Jawas in their sand crawlers.

My theory is that the Arvala-7 Jawas came to the planet with other travelers; but I believe the reason they were so spread out and casual on their sand crawler is because, outside of the Blurrgs and the Mudhorn, Arvala-7 didn't seem to have dangerous wildlife or even there doesn't appear to be any deadly Sentient Species. They were probably so used to bounty hunters dying trying to capture the child that they would scrap their ships once they got far enough away and sell the weapons and other useful scrap to the Mercenaries that killed said bounty hunters.

Internal logic that doesn't make sense is _why weren't the Sand people wiped out?_
Genocide isn't a real ethical issue in the Star Wars universe and on the outer rim no one would complain even if it was.
And the technology and superior firepower is there to do so, you don't even need a coordinated military campaign (although the Empire or even just the Hutts could do it easily), just put a bounty on Sandpeople and hunting parties will form to cash in.
Especially with the availablity of heavy weapons in Star Wars to civilians, a couple of light freighters converted into gunships or even surplus real gunships from a war could exterminate a tribe without any fuss. They then move on to the next tribe.
Even without that, a group could set up shop as Sandpeople pest control - getting raided by a tribe, give them a call and for a reasonable fee they will wipe it out, or just retaliate enough to deter future attacks.
Besides Anakin wouldn't be the only one to have their mother killed by Sandpeople, a group of vengeance minded killers could form to well… take revenge.
Seriously, Vader could've had the species gone with a order, as a training mission for a legion, or just go on hunting holidays on Tatooine to get some anger and aggression out.
Although that could be awkward if his spider sense started tingling… and apparently it's canon in a comic that he went back and killed Watto.

Because Tatooine is for star wars what an abandoned building in the outskirts of a city in a third world country is for us. Lots of trash, nothing worth salvaging for any serious company or faction. Some ocasional drug addict or gang hideout. And very, very poor or uncaring inhabitants.
People who cares about the sandpeople would not have the resources to wipe them out. People who have the resources to obliterate them wouldnt care about them in the first place.
Why would the empire or the hutts give a damn about a bunch of savages in a shitty rock? They were there in the first place only to find the escape pod with r2 and 3po

    • @cgi2002
      @cgi2002 4 роки тому +8

@@vampirecount3880 you also forgetting the sand people had their other uses. They were good sport for hunting when a Hutt fancied themselves a bounty hunter or a sport hunter. They kept the locals afraid, which made it easier for the Hutts and Empire to control them. Then they also made pod racing more interesting, after all they did like to take pot shots at the racers, which adds an extra element to it, increasing its popularity.
As for not wiping them out, a suitably equipped military could likely do it relatively easily, but why bother, they aren't a threat to the military or anyone capable of paying them to do it. And as was shown in a new hope, they make for excellent fall guys should the military want to do some thing dodgey.

Though in Star Wars Lore. I like to think. The Jawa Spacecraft is real. As the Jawa are known to scavenge and repurpose tech. I can see them taking a Sandcrawler. Taking any Spaceship parts they could find. Also, any parts they could make. Getting their Sandcrawler rebuilt into a Spaceship.
After surviving the trip and managing to not die on landing. They break it all down and rebuild the Sandcrawler. To which they start roaming the planet once again.

My guess around that new planet is that those sandcrawlers were VERY common in many planets. Keeping any interstellar nation/kingdom/empire requires interstellar amounts of resources. Just so happens that Jawas found ways to get there in mining operations, probably thanks to their mining skills, and at some point the planet was not needed anymore (maybe the wars hit someone's economy and keeping an interplanetary mining operation became more expensive than the whole logistics of sending supplies and returning the goods). The planet got abandoned, but since the Jawas were not particularly harmful as long as you are willing to trade with them, they were left there. Of course it became somewhat independent and being neutral meant a good deal of the galaxy would go there to get minerals, despite the mining operations being officially terminated. And whoever abandoned the planet would also leave the Jawas there because, in case they needed it back, functioning sandcrawlers and skilled miners were already settled.

Pretty much every mine on earth uses haul trucks that are, if not the same make, similarly styled. CEC made something similar i reckon; being cheap meant smaller operators could afford one and larger operators could buy several, being reliable meant a good reputation and more potental customers, and being ubiquitous meant finding parts was easy and thats a Godsend when you're mining in the outer rim and ordering a new wheel bearing from Corellia means 3 months shipping. Wouldnt surprise me if they were still being made, or at least the parts were.
