The Filipino silogs... It's called that coz its a combo of stir fried rice =sinangag, egg = itlog... Thats where you get the "silog" = sinangag + itlog.. Then pair it with whatever you like. Hotdog becomes hotsilog, tapa is tapsilog, bacon is bacsilog, longanisa (filo sweet sausage) is longsilog. Usually the classics are tapsilog, longsilog and tocino (sweer pork) is tocilog. Enjoy!

Kare-Kare: Just say "curry" with a Japanese accent twice. Also the fermented shrimp paste that comes with it is a condiment - pinch a little bit of that with your chopsticks and put it on a piece of veg or beef. If you ever cook this at home, make this extra saucy and save the extra sauce - you can use that for Americanized dandanmian. And about the instant champorado...that one uses something like rice krispies. The non-instant version uses congee rice. Consistency also varies, kind of like regular chicken stock congee. And yeah if you're having a rich breakfast, just make a heck of a lot of extra hot coco so you can set aside some in a saucepan and keep it hot while you make the chocolate congee (then mix up either as you like, like add espresso shots or black coffee; maybe some rum too and for that I recommend Don Papa). If you can't locate any of the cocoa tablets (although unless you got the instant stuff from a Filipino grocery, chances are they have it; otherwise, get some from a Mexican store), Hershey's and Ghirardelli coco powder will work.
No worries with the pronunciation. No cheese in Palabok. That's probably hard boild egg yolk. Halo-halo has no noodles but that's macapuno which is a mutant of coconut. The green things if crunchy are rice crispies if not the its gulaman or just jello. The only thing you are missing is the local ingredients which is a whole different story. Look for Crispy pata, dinuguan (if you dare), kaldereta, humba, bulalo, lumpiang sariwa, binagoongan, ube halaya, any ginataan dishes and sisig. There are more but this is a good list. Find a Filipino family to feed you. That would be a better experience haha.
As a Fiipino, our healthy Filipino-veggie-based meals are also good but they are overpowered by all the vlogging coverage on meat-based meals. But that's ok, good to know you enjoy them.

As a SouthEAST Asian, we cook Bitter gourd with, onions, garlic and tomatoes until soft and then add a beaten egg in there It's like scrambled eggs, but it has flavourful stuff in it Best eaten with rice

Both are from srilankan cuisine but there's many variations, I like both. The curry version is good with rice n like potato/pumpkin curry and a fried/roasted fish n chicken. The sambol version is like an enhancer or addition of crispness n extra flavour for like a dhal curry with yellow rice 😋😋 I'm fasting rn, and now I'm hungry. Hope this helps 💛

The one with bittergourd is called Pinakbet. It's stir fried assorted veggies (pumpkin, okra, tomato, eggplant, stringbeans) in shrimp paste. It's akin to french dish ratatouille.

hi, filipino food lover here!!! i think the drink you drank at your filipino neighbor's house you were referring to at 8:34 is sago't gulaman, it's basically a sweet, refreshing drink that the main stars are the sago (tapioca pearls) and the green jelly you saw in your halo-halo. sometimes halo-halo also uses sago!

U need to mix the halo2x and eat it with spoon...don't use straw with that..😊😊 And also don't put condensed milk in your champorado.. we normally put evaporated milk and if u want to try u can also put powdered milk it's more yummy 😊
when eating or drinking Halo-Halo make sure to mix all the way to the bottom so the ingredients on the bottom surfaces Champorrado only needs evaporated milk and probably a little bit of sugar

i never mixed my halo-halo growing up. yes we know that's what it means but not everybody eats their halohalo like that. i like to eat my favourite parts first (the Ube, flan, and macapuno!), then let the rest naturally melt together.

My favorites are mechado, menudo, afritada, lumpia shanghai, embutido, tocilog, tapsilog, bulalo, sinigang, afritada, kaldereta, ube, halo-halo, pork bbq, goto, arroz caldo, liempo, lechon kawali and many more. You guys know how to cook. Can't wait to eat another Filipino food.

Karekare is usually Beef, beef tripe, cow cheeks, oxtail or trotters and shanks. Definitely try champorado made from scratch with glutinous rice, chocolate tablea or 100% Cacao tablets, sugar, evaporated milk, then eat with bits of Filipino salted fish called tuyo. Delicious!
I think the drink your mentioning, the coca cola colored drink with the jello, is called SAGO'T GULAMAN or just GULAMAN (depending on the floaters). Champorado also goes well with salted dried fish.

The gravy with the lechon kawali is a sweet liver sauce. It usually uses chicken liver, pepper, brown sugar, salt, corn starch or rice or wheat flour. Look for Buko Pandan for dessert or cassava cake. 👍👍👍

Letchon kawali is a fave. The sauce isnt gravy , the brand we use to call it here is called Mang Tomas sauce, it goes perfectly with letchon, or any other letchon , can be letchon kawali or letchon manok (chicken) perfectt!!❤ Tapsilog is my top fave too, its usually serve in breakfast , but its my fave, i can eat it for bfast, lunch or dinner 😝 the best!❤❤❤ I eat champorado with evap milk and condensed milk, its the bestt! Could be good serve hot or cold doesnt matter still delicious. Maaann seeing you eat champorado got me craving for one. 😢😅😂
my filipino in me is confused. lol - beef menudo??? - chicken kare kare? without bagoong (shrimp paste) - lumpia with bagoong? - palabok with cheese? - halo halo unmixed? - try real champorado. not the instant ones. also, you're right, add milk to elevate your champorado. add powdered milk if your champorado is watery, or add evaporated milk if it is a little dry. also add sugar. but that's the way southern Philippines eat their champorado. Northern philippines eat theirs with tuyo, salted dried fish.
That menudo had no chilis in it but it has the sweet tomato sauce and it has mixed with the pork and other vegetables in it, specially potatoes and carrots

Tapsilog is just one of the different types of silog in the Philippines. My favorite silog is bacsilog.
That is just FOOD sold to office workers and poor people in the capital city. But Filipinos assumed that is their culture.

I remember when I was a kid I LOVED champorado with milk so much that I used to get so whiny when there was no milk for my champorado HAHAHA its been so long since ive had it especially with milk but I recommend it, from what I can remember from my childhood I loved putting powdered or condensed milk on it

Letchon kawali is a fave. The sauce isnt gravy , the brand we use to call it here is called Mang Tomas sauce, it goes perfectly with letchon, or any other letchon , can be letchon kawali or letchon manok (chicken) perfectt!!❤

I eat champorado with evap milk and condensed milk, its the bestt! Could be good serve hot or cold doesnt matter still delicious. Maaann seeing you eat champorado got me craving for one. 😢😅😂

- try real champorado. not the instant ones. also, you're right, add milk to elevate your champorado. add powdered milk if your champorado is watery, or add evaporated milk if it is a little dry. also add sugar. but that's the way southern Philippines eat their champorado. Northern philippines eat theirs with tuyo, salted dried fish.
