- In this interview, Reznor talks about the inspiration of the album The Downward Spiral, the "reasoning" of the reoccurring theme of pigs on TDS, his celebrity status, and more.
(Turn up your volume, this video is pretty quiet)
"I don't walk around throwing mic stands when I'm eating dinner" I love him. Also, not sure if this makes sense but this interview, to me, shows how he doesn't need to please other people; he doesn't fake pleasantries, he doesn't let the interviewer cut him off, he doesn't feel the need to really do anything besides look away as he's answering or look at his hands or something. He's amazing and he's definitely one of my heroes.
me too my friend love your comment , very true,,,
same here, I love Trents work. I could listen to his music and focus on each individual instrument. He is a very interesting human being and i think this world needs more talent like him.
SAME
Trent Reznor is one of the reasons why I would like to go back to the 90s 😍.
Damn, 14 years later and I STILL want that fucking jacket.!!!
He's purdy!
"I don't walk around throwing mic stands when I'm eating dinner"
what a smart ass
i love. trents speaking voice.
I
I wish I could have grown up in the 90s... I. LOVE. TRENT. The Slip was... eh. I liked Year Zero. But this was his best time, Downward Spiral and whatnot. NIN for life
I always thought Trent looked like Snape, lol. But Trent is still way hotter! haha.
Trent Reznor one in a billion talent. Love his work so much.
Downward Spiral is a great great album.
For other intense, dark and brooding styles its also worth checking out
HTDA,Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Tricky,
Massive Attack, Portishead, EL P, AllFlaws
His voice is so...deep..? He is so cute =D
i remember in high school liking nin was the most cutting edge thing. i dont know what its like now
ghostwhiskey still very edgy
It's like being classy these days.
As a 17 yr old in highschool and this being one of my favorite bands it’s super edgy especially with some of my friends who listen to polo g and young boy. Caint stand that shit
When I listen to Trents music it can feel multiple things. things that don't make sense to alot of people unless you really listen to his music. I feel like I'm being taught a difrent language, a language unknown by man. I feel like my life has been laid before me and turns into a spiral. I feel like I'm spiraling down into everything I know in the world. it feels mystical with every song but only if you understand his way of speech. I'm sure other people who understand his music feel the same way or difrent ways but his music shares the same feel as the brief case in Pulp Fiction. it's all up to you what's inside. it could be as simple as money or as complex as somthing godly. it's all up to you and even still were able to come to understand it difrently yet still as one fan base. Truly astonishing.
God, he was this old when I was born *my heart breakes* :(
oh well..
Back on point. Trent Reznor is freaking amazing. Who cares what drugs he did or didn't do? The man is a musical genius.
thx 4 this, love it.
You know, i've never had an idol.. but god damn, everytime i hear Trent over youtube, i think ' fuck, this is who i wanna be '
trent really seemed to change in my opinion for the better as a person, i like his new music however i think his older music is much better, does anyone know the significance of him singing about pigs since he doesnt say
indeed. all in all. with all trent's albums he has yet to let me down. that makes me soo happy.
its an amplification of me and my personality. i dont go around throwing mic stands when im eating dinner at a restaurant.. i love how on top of everything else Trent Reznor does. he also makes me laugh
oh so do i could listen to it all day! love the accent too!
I miss Prof. Snape Reznor
When I met Trent In Newport KY, The Band Was Nine and 1/2 inch Nails. The had a 1st record/Demo going out to Phils Record bar and he was in a battle of the bands and was not the winner. We drank with him and had our Pics taken throught out the night it was so cool to know him then and not aware he was going to be Famous.
Life was different when Trent had long hair and a badass leather jacket
I love him ! :-)
I know that feeling!
When PHM came out in 89 , I was fucking ONE years old!!! XD
It couldn't be form 1994 if it shows footage from the "We're In This Together Now" video, because that video is from 1999.
I love this interview! Is there more to it? Looks like it was cut off a bit at the end.
i cant believe people don't know that. Annoys me so much when people refer to it as a johnny cash song i hate that shit.
I've corrected a few people on that. Credit where its due, ay.
Randy Eible Your not the only one (6 years ago guy) Most people these days, mostly kids, don’t even acknowledge rock music in general anymore. Not that Johnny cash wasn’t rock, but people are told what to like and what’s popular these days. And pop and hip hop has dominated the music industry for almost 20 years. I can’t even meet someone these days in there 20s who knows who the fucking Smashing Pumpkins are
@@duggiedug9148
I'm 16 years old, and I know of everyone mentioned here.
Does that help a little?
when he stops touring is when i get into NIN. and i live 15 minutes away from where he spent his childhood too
Очень красивый Трент 🥰🥰🥰
Trent still puts out some kick ass music. The early stuff is his meat and potatoes. If you like video games, electronics, vinyl records, thrash metal, rock, classic rock, movies,DVD music videos check out my channel!
LOL!!! YES!!! I've been saying that for YEARS! And I've been a fan since the PHM days. lol!!
I lol'd at the Burn video at the very end.
He is such a genius.
At 2:23 there is a scene from The Perfect Drug which was the 96-97 era. Around 2:42 there is scenes from We're In This Together in the background from the 99 era. This could have just been thrown in later when the interview was released. I'm not sure.
you know years ago, i prayed for love, and then our god trent, released the downward sprial, and ever since then, ive been a strict follower of NIN haha, incredible man, incredible legacy, we love you Michael Trent Reznor!
wait isn't 2:52 from We're in this together, which came out in 2000? but the interview looks like its from 1994
NIN, The MAXX, the uknown internet, Grunge, Industrial, Serial Killer Movies. The 90s were an incredible time of creativity.
Def earned it
Nooo, Reznor really looks very good in this video. And everywhere...:) i like his hair when it's halflong, like here.
Was this video edited or is this exactly what it looked like when it was released?
this was in 94? i swear i saw a clip "we're in this together" from 99.
oic, ty.
Professor Snape
little did he know how awesome NIN would grow to become
Reznor never did heroin; he was a cocaine addict. It remains a thought provoking lyric, however, even more so because he never abused heroin.
Lots of singers do, especially the artistic ones who let all their emotion out through music...
@noxbluebutterfly if you think it's bad now, you should have seen his hair when he debuted Non Entity at the hurricane Katrina fundraiser concert in '05.
@StickyInADarkBlueCut Suck was originally written and preformed by Pigface, which was lead by Martin Atkins. Where it did feature Trent, Pigface was not Trent Reznor the way that NiN is Trent Reznor. So, where this may be reffering to heroin it doesn't mean that it was a personal experience of Trent's. It could have been a personal experience of anyone from Pigface since there were 4 people working together to created their songs.
yeah, i'm not a singer by trade but everyone i play with, and myself are multi instrumental, so lots of swapping occurs, and if the music was lighter then i'd be fine, but i don't have much in the screaming range, it's like my voice goes fine up til the point it needs agression than, *pow* the voice stops and i have to go to part of my throat where it's less confortable. also why are people thumbing that down. dude was offering a peice of legitimate advice.
I was one when TDS came out!
I'm here now
Much music existed in the early 90s???
Well obviously the documentary was broadcast a second time, after The Fragile was released.
@mikethelyon The lyric doesn't specify heroin in the needle. Lot's of things can be shot...
if this is 1994 then how come theres the were in this together video partly i nthere at 2:48
Is it just me or did someone else see what could have been the video for We're In This Together flash real quickly at 2:50? Isn't this in '94? lol
i get a similar feeling but i dont want to be him-i want to be with him, lol.
"I don't go around throwing mic stands" lol
@mikethelyon Listen to the song suck the lyrics go "runs up my arm til im on track, itches the skin right off my back" reffering to heroin if you know anything about heroin
@TheFaustianMan wow, i think the same thing. Aeon Flux, the unknown internet, NiN. i was like 8 or 9 during this time and i really liked NIN then, and still do. as a child u think "Whoa, who are these guys" because trent to me back then was like this reaaally reaally mysterious dude who wore black and just seemed dark and created HEAD LIKE A HOLE, i knew guitar work and piano but hearing his music was like "How does someone make music like this?" now im older and always leaned into a Synthesizer
@mikethelyon I don't know if he was addicted to heroin, I thought he was, but he DID have a near-fatal overdose in London.
most singers injure their throats, it would suprise me if he had, sepcially with screaming, the montone is quite comfortable for a voice, i find tht even afetr playing one show my voice is sore for hours after, i cant imgaine what it's like for heavier vocalists
you're welcome ;)
@mikethelyon Actually he overdosed on heroin during one of his tours and a show had to be cancelled
@Ryan9145X well 5 million people who bought the downward spiral but there are about 100 million youtube users :P
I was joking about it too, of course. We could cite head like a hole too.
@wannatryit I like a lot of those artists you named
It;s been said that the "pig" could possibly stand for authority
@TheLateralusParabol I cannot believe Tapeworm didn't take the fuck off. It just doesn't make sense to me.
LMAO did anyone else see trent trip over his boot at 1:31 hahahahahhhh
i think cuz usually younger artists cover older ones, not the other way around
holy shit.... you're right, it's definitely there. weird......
Bauhaus...you fucking left out Bauhaus...
its snape
haha I always though he looked like Luke Wilson more!
you forgot to say that it is free at nin(.)com of course any real fan don't need to be told that!!!!!!! great stuff, I love Ghosts!!!!!!!!!!!!
Opinion..........riiiiiiiiight
:P
Nothing Beats TDS so far just nothing
my only 5* album on Itunes
All 5* songs except big man and I do not want this
Yuki zack: you realy like trent, dya?
Dude was kind of a weirdo but I can relate...
Aphex Twin, too.
And The Perfect Drug too :s
Poser even trent said that his version took his song and made it his own and how it wasnt his song anymore and if you dont believe me type in trent reznor interview johnny casj have fun and watch it all the way through
Pretty Hate Machine
Broken
And All That Could've Been/Still
The Slip
Nope no joke, He was very thin, very shy and a big drinker!!!
yeah, what's with the pig obsession on downward spiral?
he looks like Snape from Harry Potter... I feel like an ass saying that but he did back then...
he looks alittle bit like owen wilson with black hair lol.but he is great.
haha thanks. youre pretty
@James25H Then why are you here?
he cut his hair =( in the newest interview
something about 29 I suppose
HOLY FUCKING SHIT his talking voice sounds exactly like corey taylor's in this video haha that's creepy
Omg I cannot unhear it now
I wonder if March of the Pigs, having almost a military feel to it, has anything to do with communism or Animal Farm? :)
..that seems to be a very common opinion. haha
Hahaha saame
下旋神专辑不解释!
i think the Broken album was the fucking shit..
