This is really good. We read an article in my homiletics class this week about preaching the resurrection so this topic is particularly fresh on my mind. Jesus is above all. Why whould GOD have a son for. To die for are sins and to show us GOD is real. Show us proof. And still people think that doesnt matter. If it doesnt so GOD sent his only son for no reason. Others say hes just a prophet. Than name me one prophet can raise the dead. Name me one prophet has GOD as his father. Name me one human one prophet has no father in flesh. Name me one human one prophet has died with flesh and body not seen for burial and sent to heaven body and soul. Only one that name is JESUS and only one comeing end of days. If JESUS not GOD why isnt GOD comeing end of days instead of JESUS. That tells us JESUS above all. JESUS is GOD. Messiah chosen one. GODBLESS.
Hi Gavin! Because of your channel, I've started to be very interested in the fathers. Recently, I've been reading St. Ambrose On The Sacraments. And it really looked like he was arguing for transubstantiation. Coming from reformed theology, that shocked me a bit, considering he's an early figure. So I was wondering, do you have any video where you address, if not his comments in particular, but comments from the fathers in general about the Lord's Supper and transubstantiation? It would be great to have your take on this. Your videos have taught me so much, I'm really, really thankful. May God bless you!
Just found your channel a few days ago. Thank you for all this great content and for the humility you bring to the table. Random question: have you heard of The Bible Project? If so what are tour thoughts on it? Interested to see what other scholars think about it.
Hebrews 1:1-5 King James Version 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
What you say is significant. Jesus' incorruptible body is a portion of what sets Him apart from every other human. No other human being gets an incorruptible body until the resurrection. But Catholics seem to think that Mary has been assumed bodily into heaven and therefore possesses an incorruptible, resurrection body _even though the resurrection has yet to occur._ Roman Catholic doctrine sets Mary on a plane of equality with Jesus in this sense: in the RC view there now are _two_ people in heaven with incorruptible bodies. (The alternative, that Mary was assumed bodily but did not receive an incorruptible body, is unthinkable. Did her assumed body decay and die? RCs, it seems, have never thought their doctrine through to its logical conclusion.) RCs essentially view Mary as having been appointed to a priestly office of intercession, and some RCs make such a big deal about Mary's obedience to God during her earthly life that they appear to regard that obedience as an atonement for the disobedience of Eve.
Gavin, i look so forward to your videos & am learning so much. Thank you for helping & teaching in a kind loving way. You have this gentleness about you & i really think that shines in all your videos. I pray for you ❤ thanks again!
Recapturing the resurrection of the body in teaching is very important in understanding the blessed hope Jesus and the disciples taught. N.T. Wright's book "Surprised by Hope" delves into exactly this subject.
Wonderful and encouraging Easter message, Gavin! While I like that you've got a new studio set up, like others here have commented, the two blonde bookshelves are distracting and mess with your head. Maybe if and when you have your library books on them it will be less distracting? Also, it's fairly dark in the background. Love your ministry here! Blessings 🙏
hey man thank you so much for these videos, as a long time Christian that never actually had a relationship with God just wanted to say thank you for helping me understand God better! God bless always
Your setup looks amazing! Very minimal and clean. Quick suggestion: It’ll be good if you can make a neon light sign of your logo and locate it somewhere behind.
Great video! I completely agree that Christ's intercession is one of the greatest aspects of the gospel. Gavin, you would love David Moffitt's "Atonement and the Logic of Resurrection in the Epistle to the Hebrews" and his second book "Rethinking the Atonement". So many treasures to be found for the believer in the resurrection and ascension of Christ.
I appreciate your content! Thank you for the encouraging and helpful insight into the Priest, King, Pophetic role of Jesus and his death and resurrection. As for the background, maybe it could be a little brighter? The long light on the right is a bit strange and greenish looking and a bit distracting. Something to think about is what is at your head and shoulder height behind you because that can be a distraction as well, especially if it is a light source. I really appreciate the slides you post as you chat as well! Happy Easter!
New Covenant Whole Gospel: Who is now the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary? What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below. Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8, 3:16? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. The Resurrection is the First Glorious Mystery of the Rosary. So, we think about it a lot. Church History, oh dear, the Catholics are going to be crucified !
Have you listened to or read Dr David Moffit on the atonement in Hebrews? He shows that the blood is presented on the altar rather than at the death of the sacrifice, which is what Hebrews says, that Christ performed atonement in the courts of heaven rather than on the cross (or solely on the cross). The imagery is very powerful and I’m not sure all the implications (or whether Moffit has the correct implications worked out), but I think it’s very good work anyways. Would love to hear your thoughts!
0:27 Good Friday and Easter Morning are _both_ sth completely new. They are Harmageddon and Second Coming in relation to the Old Covenant. I have seen the non-obligation to the kashroot defended on the ground that, yes, they were valid to the end of all time, but the end of all time happened. We live in the same places, but a new Universe.
I feel Jesus calling me and I've always felt I had a relationship personally with him. I have never been to a church, I don't know what church to go to to learn more
I am a bit confused about which verses pertain to what life is like during the millennium and which refer to the new heavens and earth after the current heaven and earth have passed away (following the millennium). You mentioned that the body of the resurrected Jesus ate. Also the angels who visited Abraham ate. The resurrected body of Jesus still had wounds from the crucifixion. Of course, He told Mary not to touch him because he was not yet ascended to the Father- so maybe his body changed more after that? Yet it says there will be no male and female and no marriage after our resurrection. Is that for those who reign with him during the millennium, or is this in the new heavens and new earth following the resurrection? How about the lion laying down with the lamb and no more weapons? Millennium, I would assume?
Have we not read Leviticus 23? If we read it we will see that God gives specific instructions regarding His special days and how we are to honor Him through them. No such specific instructions exist in the New Testament about any days to be special. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament special days, except for the feast of trumpets. The only thing that Jesus asked us to do in remembrance of Him was to break bread and drink of the fruit of the vine. Any special days to "honor" Jesus we do is not of God, it is of man to tickle man's ears and make themselves feel good. God desires obedience and is not pleased with those that make their own traditions as Jesus speaks about in Mark 7. Somehow we have become so blind that we believe that eggs, bunnies, lillies, new outfits, or trees with lights, garland, gifts, parties, yule logs and so much more demonstrates honor to God. Have we no fear of the Lord that we feel we can make up celebrations? Do we say this is our way of honoring God? Have we forgotten Exodus 32? God was not pleased when Aaron did a similar thing. Revelation 3:14-22 will happen to those that continue to go along with leaders in the church who have added or gone along with all the "things" that have been added to our worship and honor of God. By adding to God's word we have made the church lukewarm and it is time to open our eyes before it is too late. Jude 3 should be our call to get back to the word of God and tear away from the words and ways of man.
Good message and nice setup. Not sure about that line (from the desk behind?) going into your head on the right side. Not a huge deal, but I'm kinda mean like that.

GODBLESS.
Jesus is God ❤ Amen, amen!
Is this the new studio?
Love this video brother!
Welcome aboard!
The background is incomplete without a Schaff Church Fathers set behind you somewhere.
Great stuff! Also, love the new video and audio setup. Looks and sounds fantastic!
Hebrews 1:1-5
King James Version
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
God is moving in power on college campuses, I have seen it firsthand at my home of Iowa State. Thank you Gavin!
Great content brother! Keep it coming!
Whew Amen and amen🔥. This was beautiful
I thank God for you Dr Gavin. This refreshed me as I'm washing dishes
Recapturing the resurrection of the body in teaching is very important in understanding the blessed hope Jesus and the disciples taught. N.T. Wright's book "Surprised by Hope" delves into exactly this subject.
Side note: great set, lighting, visual and audio 👌👌👌
I love the new setup, Gavin! Looking Awesome!
Your new set looks nice, clean, and green ( the plant is a nice touch). Love your channel. Happy Easter.
I am so encouraged and my heart is so full of love for Jesus after watching this. Thank you for everything you do in this channel!
Great video, so encouraging and enriching. I am really excited for your new book on Protestantism to come out!
God invites us to a relationship with Him through His Son, the only way to the Father... Are you born again?
Finally walking in the light now?
I had to turn the bass down in my car for clarity in the audio, might be from the new studio.
Gavin Ortlund with a good camera and lighting is jarring
need to have all your favorite systematics on the shelf in the background. production value looking great!
Superb exposition. Happy Easter Gavin. Thank you.
22 Gen Z here. Love the studio and the ministry.
Now that I think of it, you should invite him on your channel and discuss these topics together!
I love the new set up
Wow brother I didn't even start the video, but wanted to say the video quality is top-notch! Loving the new studio 🔥
Thank you for what you do Dr. Ortlund!
Absolutely love the setup sir🔥
Wow nice new studio!
The new setup looks great!!
New studio is great!👍
I appreciate your content!
Love the new setup
Book recommendation: "Resurrection and Redemption. A study in Paul's Soteriology" by Richard B. Gaffin Jr.
Thanks for the blessing in Jesus King of kings and lord of lords
I do appreciate these vidoes!
Gavin for president. Love the new shot!!
New Covenant Whole Gospel:
Who is now the King of Israel in John 1:49?
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
(John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18.
Watch the UA-cam videos “The New Covenant” by David Wilkerson, or Bob George, and David H.J. Gay.
The background looks pretty simple...make sure you add more books!
Good message and nice setup. Not sure about that line (from the desk behind?) going into your head on the right side. Not a huge deal, but I'm kinda mean like that.
The Day the "First-fruits from the dead" came forth out of Death was the Festival of First-fruits -- one of the Festivals of Yehovah that are to be celebrated forever.
Thanks for the shout out for Menno Simons
Can you possibly make a video addressing how some Christians claim that both Easter and Christmas are pagan and should not be observed
You're a bit of a floating head today, body blends in with the background 👍
The link to your resurrection article on your website doesn’t work for me. Can someone post a link that works?
Happy Easter!!!
