My dad was in the Vietnam war as well( but to us Hmong people it's known as the Secret War). He was recruited by the CIA to draw maps of the jungle of Laos to help the Americans gain entrance to Vietnam. Unfortunately, my dad died by suicide last year. He had depression, ptsd, and delusions. It's my first time hearing this song/seeing this video and I was bawling with you! Thank you for your dads service. ❣️
Your Dad's Service saved countless lives... He may not have been a US Service member but to us HE IS A VETERAN! and you as his daughter are FAMILY. THANK YOU for sharing and sympathy on your loss.
My grandpa on my dad's side was too, and he's still alive I don't know if he has any of those though, I'm sorry for your loss, thank you for your dads service.
hopefully getting that off ur chest, I hope you can heal however fits u best, God bless , that was brave to put out there, just putting it out there for some it helps heal some of the hurt they are feeling, and hopefully it helped u ❣️
“I only served in Bosnia” Don’t ever say that shit man. Many of us “only served” in Bosnia, Haiti, Somalia, etc in the 90s. We saw and did shit no human should ever have to see or do. And just because our government didn’t label it a war, doesn’t diminish what we went through. Thank you for your service. You signed the blank check, you are a hero my friend. Period!
Service is service. I couldn't get into the military from hearing loss as a kid, but was a volunteer firefighter, running bravely into anything that is a good chance of hurting you in the end is bravery and you have to at least be proud that you had the guts and glory to do it without hesitation and selflessness knowing you are doing it to help.... That's it. That's the good stuff
Last October, I happened to be heading home from an event and while waiting to cross the street I noticed a guy with a 3rd Marines hat, with tears in his eyes. I looked at him and he quickly looked away as he wiped a tear from his eye and pretended as if I didn't see it. I asked him if everything was all right. He asked why I was asking. I told him I've only seen a Marine cry at a funeral for a fellow Marine and while not a Marine myself (US Army Veteran) I had served along side Marines and recognized his patch. We spoke on that bridge for over an hour and he informed me he was on his way to commit suicide (jumping off the bridge into the river) and was sad noone would miss him. I told him that I'm a Veteran and that I'd miss him. He broke down crying and hugged me. I put him in contact with a friend who works with 22 Until None and got him help. He has since gotten treatment for his depression, PTSD and alchohol abuse. I still regularly check up on him even though he moved back to San Diego. The point being you never know when a simple kind word can literally save someone's life.
My uncle was a marine during Vietnam and did several missions he refused to talk about in Laos. Which in the VA eyes we never fought in, he would go in after agent orange was sprayed, he developed cancer from it. Va and government refused to help till after his death. He was the last member of our family that served.
@@KenBober My father was in Nam in 68-69 and got the Agent Orange disease lost a kidney and thyroid to cancer because of it and is still alive but disabled because of the injuries sustained while in combat and the combination of PTSD and agent orange. The PTSD really hit my dad in the mid 80s and he deals with it everyday. Growing up seeing that was intense to say the least. I would like to also say Thank you to your Uncle. Thankyou for his service.
Thank you, he didn't have ptsd much probably because he drank and smoked so much weed, he wasn't allowed to talk about his missions. My family has a large history of serving, one grandfather was on the uss Wisconsin from 44 to 46 my other grandfather set up the Phoenix cassions and stormed the beach, my other uncle was a marine m60 gunner on a helicopter during Vietnam, my great grandfather did serve during ww1 but don't know what.
Brother in Arms, when people tell me "Thank you for your service," I always reply "If you want to thank veterans, stop voting for the people who make more of us"
And don't care for those that exist. Those that leave our borders open to invasion and hand cash and care to those who come here in such a way, while ignoring the plight of warriors. Want to thank people for their service? Take care of the collateral damage of that service. Platitudes and checking the "culture" box, doesn't do that.
war always happens, regardless of whose in office. that's just how things are in this messed up world we live in. the people that say "thank you for your service" are usually very empathetic about the person in question. its more of a support for a fellow American.
With so many "diplomats" there shouldn't be war. We are supposed to be at the top of the food And intelligence chain, even different species if Animals will help each other, why can't we? Of course I know animals kill each other To Survive, To Protect their young but again, THEY are animals. My Dad was Navy during Viet Nam, he can't touch raw meat, he becomes uneasy when I butcher Anything, he won't hunt... I know why. He's Always been a great father, not just to me and my brothers but to my cousins and neighborhood kids. I make sure to tell him regularly how much he means to me, someone should.
a wise man once said "if we can afford to send them to war, we can afford to take care of them, if we can't afford to take care of them? then we can't afford to send them to war"
I always wondered how can a country that doesn't only spend the most on the planet on military, but spends as much as the next 6 countries together (and 3 of those are their allies), "can't afford" to support its veterans... The least you can do for the people who were literally ready to die to protect US interests anywhere on the planet is lifetime healthcare, proper mental care, and a veteran's pension that's high enough to stop them from ever going homeless. That should be the minimum.
Amen brother but, do understand that a true veteran doesn't want you to take care of them. They want to be heard they want someone to listen and they want a fare chance without being portrayed as a monster. They're smart, clever, hard working and will be the first to give of themselves in both effort and time in teaching others. Because in the military that's what you do, that's how you do it. Unfortunately even a good leader can only deal with corporate for so long. Sometimes back then I couldn't decide which was worse, coming back from deployment or going to work for corporate. Situations like that will make you question why you ever went in sometimes. Until you see that flag waving in the wind then it all comes back to you like it was yesterday and the feeling is truly undeniable.
"I only served in Bosnia" My dude, I have a friend who only came out of Bosnia thanks to people like you. I don't care what anyone says, that was a war, even if our governments never openly declared it. Please don't discount your service in those conflicts just because it wasn't open war
According to my scuba instructor, Bosnia was fucked. He lost his best mate there because of a sniper, I think. To whoever served wherever that may be, thank you for your service.
One of my family members served in Bosnia and Kosovo. He has served for over 15 years in the Slovakian Paratrooper Regiment, and he said that It was very fucked over there. He never talked or will talk specifically about what he saw. For example, when I asked him about the worst thing he saw, hr only said "If I told you that, God himself wouldn't allow you into heaven. If I tell you this secret of mine, you will have many sleepless nights thinking about it and it will haunt you just as much as it haunts me" (I had to translate this phrase from Slovak to English so you would all understand it). After that, I never asked about his military experiences again. I have an immense amount of respect for him and I am currently trying to follow in his footsteps by enlisting in the Slovak Army, and then the 5th SFG Regiment. Also, 95% of my family has served in the military, even my mother and grandmother.
SOMEONE JUST ACTUALLY ASKED ME: "Hey crybaby since your crying got you 100K+ views on this video, how much money did you make off of the backs of veterans and five finger death punch? Nothing makes me more sick that you people mooching off of the artists!!" Well thank you for your kind words lol actually I have made EXACTLY $0.00 from this video because the music group that FFDP is part of claimed all rights to this reaction.... and I am 100% happy with that they made the video they made the music so it belongs to them. I didn't make it for $, none of my videos are for $!! I make them cause my Subscribers asked me to, and it touched me. And according to many of the comments below we share in this pain and we support each other in healing... If even one veteran or a family member of a veteran sees my video and it makes their day better.... that is worth the pain of making this reaction. To the person who made the ugly comment and accusation: I served, so you can share your opinion... we all served for you.... OH YEAH YOU'RE WELCOME #alwaysremember #neverforget
Fuck em brother, couldnt care if you did make money, crying makes us real mate, otherwise we wind up in prison for losing the plot and letting the anger and rage consume our true selves or swallow a pill, and end it all take care keep up the great work mate u got me good with the its you and me that fight not some rich prick politicians
As you pointed out during your reaction, there are a^^holes in every walk of life. Ignore them and surround yourself with those you care about and that care about you in return. In your "Zombie" reaction video, we need a sense of 'community' as humans!
Screw that piece of trash talking shit. Thank you for your service bro, thats coming from a Vietnam vets son who has the upmost respect for our military who are heroes in my eyes.
I lost my family because of military service. My wife cheated and then used my training against me in court to say I was a dangerous parent. I ended up homeless in Seattle and about to end it all one night staying with a friend. I literally owe my life to Rascal Flatts of all things. One of their songs stopped me from completing the task. I have struggled every day since, but I make it work and continue to fight for a good life nowadays. Now I tried to help as many veterans as I can whenever I can. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL & the war to protect the 22% is an uphill battle. Hug a veteran whenever you can.
I'm so sorry you went through what you did, I am truly glad you're still with us. my ex husband was army deployed Iraq and Afghanistan,.. I have seen first hand what it did to alot of my friends that were in the army and deployed , I sat many a days, nights, talking for hours at a time with these guys because they had been through what you had gone through, I got many of them help, and fed them, helped them wherever I could, God bless you. and I hope that you are doing ok today. 💜🙏
I'm very sorry brother ... unfortunately people no longer give the right weight to the sacrifice that a person makes for the love of his family and his country ... and too often you are repaid in this horrendous way... These are the things that then make you doubt everything
My husband is a disabled veteran. I got him a meet n greet with FFDP before the show we went to in Charleston. He shook their hands and I handed them a letter to read that I found that my husband wrote with the intent on sending it to them... we were all in tears after that letter and they all hugged him and dedicated the song to him during the show. He was standing there silently, with tears running down his face while it played. One of the most amazing experiences ever. We need to do better for our veterans. PTSD isn't something that just goes away. We have to create a better program to help them when they finally come home and when they finally get out of the service. I refuse to let my husband become a statistic. If any of you need help post service or deployment, please don't ever hesitate to send me a comment. My husband and I are here for you. You are NOT alone. You ARE worthy. You ARE enough. You DESERVE a better life.
I am in school to be an Occupational Therapy Assistant and veterans are a dear cause in my heart. Though no one in my family had ever seen combat, my maternal grandfather was drafted into the navy reserves (early 50's?), my father was drafted into the navy reserves in the early 70's, and my husband volunteered for the USMC-R but had a weird bodily reaction in boot camp to a twisted ankle that lead to him almost losing the same leg twice. I have actually done projects in three different classes that revolved around veterans with mTBI, PTSD and CTE and I showed the un-reacted to version of this to my whole class at the end of a presentation. Whether you like metal or not, this song hits you right in the feelings from the start.
I haven't written anything in almost 20 years, and have never let anyone read anything I wrote. But then, I've never spent 25 minutes listening to a 5 minute song before, so here goes... Forgive me if it's a little rough in spots. Years spent far away, Forgotten by my children. Shattered, full of holes. Pieces left behind Not my body, but my soul, Never to come home. A saying said too often; That freedom isn't free More than death in consequence Or so it feels to me. And the silence is so loud, My never ending scream; Silent tears, unspoken, Hidden carefully Raven heart, turn grey. Light, shine faintly from within. Hope where have you gone? Lost in memories, But nothing left of feelings, Forgotten... so long... Yet each step I take, Head down, heel to toe, I plod; Endlessly push on Believing one day I'll remember how to feel. I will soldier on.
When i was sixteen i met a veitnam vet at walmart. I walked up to him shook his hand and said thank you for your service. I told him that if he didnt hear it when he came home, welcome home. He broke down crying. From that moment on we became friends. I learned he lived in my town. I rode past his house every day delivering papers. After that day when i was done delivering i would go sit with him on his porch and talk with him. At first it was just the weather and what the farmers were doing and how school was for me. After a little while he started talking to me about his tour in nam. I heard things no 16 year old kid should hear. He passed the year i graduated. I was one of very few who went to his funeral. Afterwards his lovely wife asked to see me. She told me i was the only one he would talk to about his service. He refused to talk to a shrink the people at the va. Nobody. But he talked to me. Ptsd is real and it hurts more than the soldier who has it. I respected that man. And respect all those past and present who chose to wear the uniform and keep us safe. My buddy came back from iraq and was so messed up from what he saw and had to do he drank and drank. We tried to get him to go to rehab and talk to someone. He went and a week later he was on the streets. We have no idea what happend to him. I hope he found help. We never found him. We need to do more for those who come back broken. Theres no other word for it. When they come back like that, something in their brain is telling them its wrong. We need to do more to help them fix themselves and get better. The pstd never really goes away. But talking with someone really does help. If you are struggling with ptsd then find someone who is willing to listen.
I did 8 years myself. I am 3 years removed and just today , I decided to actually reach out and get help man about my PTSD. Keep strong fellow veterans. And remember, You are not alone.
I tried to enlist but was turned away at MEPS due to a heart murmur. Biggest regret was not being able to serve. I'm glad you're getting the help you need. I know I live in a better world because men and women such as you did what I could not. Stay strong.
Hey Chapman, you're not quite right bro. Some of us really are alone, no one to our left and right like it was; but let me tell you what. We're alone, TOGETHER. I'm still active, five years deep in two months, and I can say that sometimes we just can't make it there when we're needed most, wherever there is. So I'm trying to change the mindset. I may not be able to reach you, or anyone else physically, so you may feel alone. But I'll swear on anything that there's someone somewhere else, going through the mental wringer just like you. You just gotta think that y'all are going through it together, and that someone will help you as long as you actively call for help (and sometimes even when you don't).
Thank you for your Service To Our Country ❤️🙏. God Protect you and Love you. Sometimes just laying quiet in Gods Presence brings All the Healing!!! May you be HEALED, IN JESUS NAME!!!!!!!!
Many european countries are social democracies and they take better care of guys than our VA who writes scripts to keep guys doped up and quiet until they end up homeless or somewhere else I remember I was a kid and my father would wake up 2 3 o clock in the morning I would hear him get up and go to the kitchen or living room to breath and I asked him alot to talk about it and he finally did when I came back from boot before I was going back for act then deployment and the things he saw during the gulf through storm tore him up inside
@Rage Poulin okay I know this is the wrong crowd to say this but you're completely delusional and the idea that vets not getting the support they obviously should have is connected to faking injuries is completely lost vets don't get support because of a lack of structural governmental support systems like psychiatric help and financial (I'm not an expert at all correct me if there are better support systems that are also missing) support. This isn't because of either left or right oriented politics but because of a terrible baseline. Quit your bs.
I agree I’ve seen to many homeless A good friend of mine was a native Canadian and he got drunk one night and decided to end himself on the railroad tracks This was 15 minutes after talking to him He couldn’t let go of the horror he saw in bosnia
has nothing to do with veterans, no human should go homeless or hungry, its called human rights. You know like social care, health care and all the other stuff that the developed countries except the USA have.
Im late to this video, but I wanna say let it out brother. Whenever you can. Youre no less a man for wearing your emotions on your sleeve. Such a great reaction and look into your personal experince. The REAL side to youtube is rare
Yo, GALACTICRIMINAL is here, bro I ain't seen you in a minute, love your reaction vids, just had to get that out there. But I do agree with what you're saying. There's nothing wrong for wearing your heart on your sleeve or for men to cry and have sad emotions
Loved your message. I live with PTSD for much different reasons. I'm a survivor of a different kind. Much love to you. I'm so sorry.❤ " never forget" and thank you.
Don’t diminish what you’ve done, if you can answer the question “Are people alive today because of your actions” with “yes” then for a time in your life you have been a hero and should be applauded for what you’ve achieved, and that’s no small feat x
Are ppl alive from his actions? All wars are about money and power and many innocent ppl die because of soldiers over there fighting a money war. It doesn't save lives at all.
@@elementalpedia first of all rewatch the first part of his video where he explains what he did to serve the country and second of all, Who are you to judge someone who is actively trying to save some ones life in exchange for there safety? What have YOU done? If all you have done is sit on your ass and complain about why soldiers are not saving lives then honestly your opinion is not wanted or needed here. Bye.
This song brings me to tears so often. I once thanked a Vietnam veteran for his service and he said to me, "next time you see a Vietnam vet, tell him welcome home, because when we came home we were spit on and never told that" it hit so strongly because I saw what the ptsd and memories did to my grandfather. All those who've served, welcome home, thank you for all your sacrifices for the freedoms we have. I am forever grateful
@John McLawson Wars have long since been fought for freedom and largely fought for greed masked with illusions of patriotism.. The last true war Americans fought for freedom was the civil war.
Thank you for doing that... Our Vietnam guys are owed an apology America could never begin to apologize for. The worst environment, the foggiest war we been in, against the most effective, determined enemy we've ever faced, while we were against our lowest morale, the least resolve, understanding of why we were there, and extremely handcuffed by the news media reporting everything.... Then when they returned drug addicted from the mental pain, the malaria, trench foot (if you were one of the lucky)...... They were spat on by Americans... God bless those Vietnam boys. I can't imagine war being worse than second Fallujah... I imagine second Fallujah woulda been a cakewalk for the Viet warriors.... Thank you for acknowledging him, I'm sure he needed n appreciated it.
"Ours not to reason why Ours but to do and die" ~Alfred Lord Tennyson~ May I offer you a small piece of advice Sir. When engaging in a conversation concerning Veterans and the Wars which they may have served In. It would only be altogether fitting if you could control your damn political opinions as to the why the war was fought, and how senseless you find it to have been fought ... and ffs man don't refer to it as merely death and suffering... Jesus Christ. Do you not understand all that death and suffering you speak about. They know about it all to well. Seeing as they t have seen it caused it and will continue to wrestle with it for the rest of thier lives. Many have watched someone they were close to loose there life In that damn as you say senseless war fought not for freedom. Blah blah blah or the all to common why are we fighting other peoples wars . I mean it wasn't our war to start with...... We! We who? If you are not there then it is not we. It's a constant uphill battle of the mind for alot of Vets. We definitely don't want nor did we ask for your negative view point on America's Foreign Policy. Look I am sorry if you found my language brash or my words in some way caused you offense. Its not only you as many people talk just like you have. I am just so goddam fukin sick and tired of hearing the war I fought in was for OIL or blah blah blah, ....really the war is over and done with for you yet somedays it's not even close to being over with.(kinda like right fucing now) So any opinion negative opinion you do have. Do all VETS A FAVOR AND KEEP IT TO YOU FUKING SELF please. Make sense? I don't need to hear that my all my brothers and sisters blood was spilled for something senseless or that blood for Oil Bullshit. You have a right to disagree. I simply ask show a bit of respect and don't insult my brothers and sisters or the war I was asked to fight in. While you stayed home. Isn't so much to as for is it. Again I don't mean to attack you on a personal level as. I don't even personal know you. I apologize I get emotional having lost 2 good PALS to a enemy that God willing you will never know. Parts of them still remain from the IED In a land that hopefully you will never be forced to go. NONE OF IT WAS SENSELESS okay.
I'm a combat veteran of the US Marine corps who was in both takings of Fallujah. I was a scout sniper. I love this song but this is the first time I've seen this video and I'm over here in tears. Hopefully this gives civilians a little taste of what we went or go through. Respect to all my fellow veterans
I was at FOB St. Michael’s in 04, I’m an Army E-7 and spoke with the Marines Sniper section about how during the second sweep they had to hold/defend the flanks and there was an intersection where a guy with an AK got dropped, do you know the rest of the story? It’s pretty hilarious. I spoke with them because I’m sniper qualified also but at the time I was an Infantry platoon sergeant.
I owe my life to a marine sniper. Barely twenty, and scared. Three or four got behind us. Cav scouts were moving light at that point, and I already had grenade fragments in my shoulder. Corpsman trying to patch me up took a hit, and that’s how we figured out they got behind us. Pinned down in the crossfire, it was a scout sniper that saves me and three others. Unusual for the Army to say, but thank God for marine snipers
@wildcardmatt17 hey brother appreciate what you said about all of us scout snipers , that was our job to protect all of our brothers and sisters no matter what branch they were in. Welcome home brother love ya and much respect. Retired Gunnery SGT USMC
MOST of my dead homies took their own lives. Sometimes I guess the battle with your own mind is often the toughest fight yet. Never gets easy. Vets, remember to check on your boys.
@@jannikniebel9559 Absolutely brother. And currently the only thing thats REALLY out there for those fighting their own demons IS their brothers in arms. Please reach out to your brothers. We all know we're not the best at asking for help, so reach out to everyone. That might be all we need to open up and make the first step to healing... Also I love the fact that in modern times theres an American soldier and a German soldier on the internet being friendly. Lets keep advancing culture.
We take care of our own and we will always count on one another to never leave anyone behind so it’s sad when we aren’t there to help our fellow brother and sister veterans
I lost my best friend after she survived 3 tours, 2 in Afghanistan and 1 more in Iraq, her husband cheated on her and left her. She did make it home but 6 months after she got her DD214 then she killed herself 9 months later from deep deep depression. I miss her so much and wish I could have helped her more. RIP Stacey Langdon.
I was born 10th of December 1991 in Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina. Thanks to men like you, my mother was able to escape to Sweden with me. Thank you for being one of the brave soldiers that helped a lot of people in need. Giving children like me a chance to survive. You are a hero! Thank you! ❤️ Oh, and I love FFDP! ❤
Was there in '93. So sad. Wish we did more, but I was only a contractor then, and we were only allowed to do so much... In later years, I was able to direct some of our efforts there and elsewhere. I think, to this day, we helped more, in more ways and places than many may know...for whatever that may mean. Bless you and yours. Cheers rl 🤘👹🤘
I'm a disabled Army vet. I watched this video for the first time with my wife in the room and I started choking up,it was the first time she ever saw me cry.
I'm an army vet also brother. I can't watch this video without crying and thinking about why I survived and why others couldn't come back home. I cry almost daily thinking about the friends I've made and watched get buried due to suicide. To serve comes with a lifelong heavy heart and more grief then any man can bear.
@@ninja1us brother,I hear you loud and clear. I've tried explaining to my wife how the army changed me for the better, and for the worse. People used to tell me "you're out now, time to get over it" some shit you just can't get over,no matter how long.
@@jasonleighton1584 I hear that Brother, people just don't understand what it does to someone when their put in the positions we are. It becomes something we can never find peace with.
Same for me. I was homeless for three years in Los Angeles. And by the grace of someone in the sky. I was out panning in front of a Vons grocery store and the manager, Carlos. He called me into the store helped me make a resume and get a job as a courtesy clerk and now I’m a deli clerk in the Rancho Santa Margarita Pavilions and about to get my first house. There is some good people out there. And I’m still thankful for what that man gave me. Don’t be ashamed to cry man. Be proud of what you succeeded in and good things will come out of this life we live. Just gotta keep strong. Don’t be afraid to cry bro. That’s what makes us human and embrace that. Thank you for your service.
I love your life bro.. I'm sooooooo glad you had a real lover of the way you were messed up and homeless to begin with...... I believe all of you should have the simplest life ever. They shouldn't make y'all work knowing they should give it to y'all just to be with the ones that truly lost thier minds when they mad y'all work hard to be messed up with to begin with....... I would love to trade places with every single one of you....just so no more of you end up homeless
My dad is a Vietnam Vet and until about 3 years ago I never knew that he was diagnosed with PTSD. Thank you for putting this song into a better perspective, and thank you for your service. ♥️🤍💙🇺🇲
For a country that boasts about having the greatest military spending, the US doesn't seem to be placing enough of the military budget where it needs to go.
This is one of the realest comments on this video. Instead of buying new humvees why dont you put some money in better mental awareness and helping the vets. Ploiticians boast about us vets and then choose new tanks and trucks over our lives and helping us.
@@rocknrolltypebeats4645 No you STFU. They have the gear but money are going into prototypes. The railgun is a good one. A weapon that destroys itself with each shot because of how powerful it is. I say we take money from what will end up destroying itself and give that research money to those who deserve it. If the people who operate the weapons are broke and thrown away. Who's gonna press the trigger on that gun. Who is gonna stand to protect you when they realize they might get nothing from what they did for us. Yeah the equipment matters and to keep them alive. However to let them live through 1 hell and then come back to live in this hell "this wrong side of heaven" is wrong. To say no to those I dont even think you watched the video. You say you were also in the military. I know I'm not but what branch were you, where were you stationed. What did you go through. Were you let down by the government? Did they give you anything after you were done? Some one in the military will check that. Also your grammar and punctuation is terrible. I hope you get to read this comment I am a veteran with 22 years service in the kosd xxv I watched your humanity shine through while watching the video as a ptsd sufferer I understood every second of your pain and dropped my war face and shed many tears I lost my wife and kids when I came home and it took me 5 years to see my kids again and I'm happy to tell you I know share custody of my younger kids I never thought I'd ever comment but you moved me brother God bless you
As a middle-eastern who never went to usa you veterans are heroes and should be treated well , there is always a bad apple but still a man who sacrifices to his country should be respected enemy or friend . I hope your country add a law to support veterans cause what people feel mentally is worse than any financial situation you go as happy dude and come back broken and shattered by the war you fought for your politicians, god bless you I hope things get better in your life .
My brother is an Army Ranger. He's seen them 4 times. I'm so jealous, lol. They are awesome with our troops. Give them some pep and pump them up. Thank you ffdp..love you guys❤
It makes me cry everytime, even as a someone who isn't a vet and had no family (to my knowledge) who has ever served. I have many friends who are in the military now. The tattoo shop I go to for piercings and tattoo work had this video playing and I cried during my tattoo cause of it.
I served in the Corps for 8 years. I was one of these people for years. It was a veteran police officer that helped me get help. Now I'm healthy and doing well. Thank you officer Walsh.
Last year my squad leader committed suicide.. he suffered from PTSD because he saw combat. He was such a funny guy and I remember having long talks with him at our unit about his mental health issues, his love life and basically everything, he just loved to talk. He could call to check up on his squad if anything crazy went down, and you'd end up on the phone for hours lol. My husband was planning on inviting him over to our house for dinner when the covid lock downs started. We always said once the lock downs were over we'd have him over for a bbq.. but he was found dead in his home in July 2020. We couldn't even have a proper memorial for him. It was all virtual. Everyone loved him, had great stores, and he got along with anyone. He will always be missed.
It sucks, because everyone with some kind of mental issue had to fight real hard last year, more than anyone else can realize, and i can't fathom what it could have been like for someone who's struggling already with ptsd to be locked away from everyone else, from all those interactions that helped them push through. I'm not a veteran, but i've always been an inch from enlisting, to the point that at the beginning of 2020 and all that war talk, i made the resolution to enlist as soon as something broke out. I have only respect for those that chose to make that sacrifice, so i salute you, and i'll join in to remember your squad leader o7
@@jimh.5546 I wish I knew what to say brother, but your soul is too precious to take just like that. Just remember you've survived literal war, and if you take it one day at a time, a day will be a week, a week will be a month, a month will be a year, and one year will turn into so much more. One day, you'll look back and realize that you made it through... God knows how..... but you made it. Go to therapy if you need to. Take your friends with you, your family, and learn together how you can battle those nasty feelings and grow from it. You don't have to let it consume you. Chin up brother 800-273-8255 here's the number to the hotline if you need it.
@@CedroLinkin Yea, I don't have PTSD either, but I do suffer from anxiety and depression. I used to self harm and drink so much but I stopped for our daughter. I'm blessed to have been able to have had other human interactions while in lock down, but my squad leader had just moved into his new place. Sometimes I wonder if he would've stayed with his roommates, if he would've still been alive. But we don't want to blame anyone though, we all knew he suffered from mental illness, he was very open about it.. we just never expected that to happen. If you think the military is your calling, go for it don't let anything hold you back but just remember it's not for everyone. Be sure you're physically and emotionally ready too. I wish you the best of luck no matter what path you take. Do you know what branch you'd like to join?
My daughter is a vet and suffers every day. It is so heartbreaking and no one ever recognizes what she did and has went through. She’s a beautiful girl that loves life and I’m so proud. Thank you for this video and ur service.
I was in the Marine Corps. It cost me a marriage, loosing multiple friend to suicide, the degradation of my body, and a lot of mental illness/trauma that I am still battling 4 years after getting out. This song and this reaction hit different. Thank you for making this video brother.
I will pray for your future brother, I have many of those exact same issues. And Pope is correct it seems to stay with me ever since. Good Day and some Bad nights just make it a day at a time.
I sob every time he recognizes him. My dad has PTSD and because of this we almost lost our house and my parents did everything but sign the divorce papers. I’m 24 now and my ptsd/my dad tribute tattoo I have has the lyrics to this song on it “I’m no hero and I’m not made of stone” because after my dad started treatment and got a service dog he was able to finally open up and my dad has always said “I don’t feel like a hero” and one day a few month after he started treatment we were just rocking out and this song came on and it was the first time I saw my daddy cry. God bless you. And thank you.
As for me and mine .... Much respect and love for our military and military families..and veterans.. WE GREATLY APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR SERVICE..VERY MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT ❤
My uncle was a Vietnam vet, and the rare time he spoke about it he said what hurt the most was coming home and being spit on and being called a baby killer, (he was drafted) but people love to hate. I wish I knew more but he never spoke about what happened and lived in Washington state in a cabin he built, to get away from the world R.I.P uncle **** I wish I could have spoken to you as a man, not your brothers little kid...but by the time I was old enough to understand your pain you were gone, and all I have is a few anecdotes and the card you sent me at 13 that said now your grown give em hell, and I hope you know 20 years later I still read that and hope you'd be proud of the life I've lived
My dad rotated back only to get spit on in the airport and called a baby killer too. Dad was at THE base where the baby killer shit started. A little kid, pumped full of opium and an AK in hand, sent out by her parents to kill GI.....and she did. Many GI. The threat had to be stopped. Fucking war. Of course the liberal media spun that story like they always do. No one back home here never knew the real story. Dad never spoke of any of this until he was in his 70s. He survived Tet '68. To this day he still wakes up at 3am on January 31st...every single year after. He doesn't load up the shotgun and walk the perimeter of the house anymore to clear like he used to. Now, my brother and I show up at 3am to make him pancakes and shoot the shit till 5am and then I head back home to get some sleep. The stories he has finally told me about Tet are unbelievable at best. He's a bitter man. Didn't even cry at his Dad's funeral. He had to fly home from Nam to go to his moms' funeral. He didn't have enough time in country so he had to rotate back to Nam to finish his time after he buried his mom. Fuck, that alone would break anyone at that age I'd think. He was a hard man to grow up with. I never understood him as a child. Not until I was over the hill did I finally start to understand him....well, as best as I could. He hasn't said all that he wants to and that's fine. I hope your Uncle found some peace in life. My Dad has really pushed a lot of people away and my parents ultimately divorced before their 50th. I hope some day Dad can find some peace in life as well.
@@pikehunter23750 your dad's lucky you guys are able to visit, I know my dad (his brother) and our side didn't make it out as often as we wanted to, Washington state's a trip from the east coast, and my uncle's later years rendered him paraplegic we suspect from something he was exposed to in nam... Too many suffer alone, I'm glad your dad despite everything has you guys, even if he doesn't say it I hope it gives him some peace of mind, and on behalf of strangers on the internet his service is respected and I thank him for it.
This is why every time I see that "Vietnam Veteran" hat or patch, I make it a point to show appreciation for what they did. They did not deserve that tag nor the way they were treated when they returned home. Some of them, like my great-uncle, didn't get to return home from Nam. He gave his life saving his own men.
My best friend served in the United States Army in Iraq. I was with my best friend the night he killed himself. He always told us he'd die before he went back to the VA. That night we were all laughing and having fun when he got up and went inside, a few moments later we heard the gun shot. I hate that I can remember that night better than any of the other memories with him. Even the smell I can't forget it, and on really rough days it comes back. I can't count the times I've been out in public and saw someone and wanted to run up to them because I thought it was him. Reality kicks back in and it all comes crashing back, it's never going to be him. The soldier I thought so much of, my hero isn't coming back. I remember being so mad at him and I wanted to shake him and scream, "Why?! Why did you do this?!" I'm never going to get an answer to that question. I still get angry at people when they say to me "He's in a better place now" or "At least he's not hurting anymore" this is not what I want to hear. I know they mean well and they are trying to be sympathetic but when they say things like that I interpret it as "this was his only choice, what he did was right and you need to get over it". I know that's not what they're saying and I know I shouldn't get mad, but it still hurts and it's hard sometimes.
I'm happy that he had those last moments with you, I'm angry that those moments are forever intertwined with his choice. I hope you are able to work through that anger and that you can find peace with it. I don't think it ever goes away and I'm so sorry.
Im so sorry for your loss and obviously for having no choice but to having the memory of that terrible night. None if it is fair or right, not for your friend, not for you or anyone experiencing similar feelings.
As a veteran who has friends who have done this and lost some of my closest friends and family, the only thing I can say is, I'm sorry this happened to you and all those affected by his loss. He is a hero, he was strong and you are too. I feel like you got a lot of your courage by admiring his, don't ever doubt that strength.
I'm Canadian, but I'm a huge supporter of the military. I may not be an American, but I truly appreciate everything you guys do. Thank you for enduring what most people could not. Thank you for your service to the country.

I served in the army from 2000-03. Did a tour in Iraq. When I got out, I experienced nearly everything in this video. I was homeless for a number of years, lost my wife and kids. My father is a marine vet that served in Vietnam, and dealt with a lot of these issues as well. This song always makes me breakdown in tears. And that's ok.
Aww I so sorry for you wanna hugged you I'm, through my life difficult enough salute to you for time service in milliary and include your father let you know appreciate you shared with everyone thanks you for service.
Can I just thank you as I thank my own countrymen and women who served and continue to serve their countries, and I hope that in the near future you will get back in touch with your children. God bless you and bless France and America 🇫🇷🇺🇲
I lost my sister in 2011 in the army to suicide after she lived with severe PTSD and a TBI from an IED in OIF in 09. I have nothing but LOVE and admiration for all our veterans. End the 22.
Sorry for you loss BRUV! but that is still no way to go!!!! after serving your duty!!!! Have Thought about self-termination myself, ounce or twice, but got good mates to care, been there too!!!!
Ivan Moody, the band’s frontman told Stereogum: “When we were over in Iraq playing our USO tour, I had one soldier come up to me, and he laid a burnt iPod down on the table. He didn’t ask me to sign it. He wanted me to keep it. I looked at him a bit funny at first. He told me one of his closest friends went out on a mission and didn’t make it back. Let’s leave it at that. When they found him and his things, his iPod was stuck on ‘The Bleeding.’ The last thing he was listening to before he went was one of our songs. I literally teared up.” Including war imagery in songs and playing for the troops is nothing new, but Five Finger Death Punch takes it a step further by employing a slew of veterans in their shows, tours, and other material. They raise money for PTSD awareness through a merchandise site, which also offers links to get help. They even help U.S. combat vets fight poachers in Africa. Their affection for veterans earned them the Soldier Appreciation Award from the Association of the United States Army and dog tags donated from their military-veteran fans to adorn their “Wall of Heroes” and soaring album sales from the troops who love them. Beyond writing songs for troops and performing in USO tours, Five Finger Death Punch is there for veterans long after they get out of the military.
This is y I support them. I actually am not a fan of their music but I purchase all of it as well as their merchandise because I know that they use their profits and money for a good cause.
I don't like all their music, but I do respect them and what I do like of theirs, I love. Wrong Side of Heaven is definitely one of those that I love, though it's hard for me to listen to.
Thank you for sharing a little of your own story, as well as this poignant video! I enlisted in the Army at 18 in Jan 1967 for 3 years. I know that I couldn’t wait to get home. I’m sure that you couldn’t either.
My dad fought along side you in bosnia. He was field artillery. The guys at the wounded warrior project use my dad's story to help spread awareness of PTSD and the effects it has on homeless vets. My dad was abandoned by the VA, he died alone in a halfway house trying to drown his memories. R.I.P dad.🖤
A fallen warrior who was left by his government and lost his battle to his demons, being found after he is gone and eventually having others tell his story to try to prevent more like him........May your father be given his well deserved peaceful rest, and your family always given respect. For the Artillery Flingers who read this, may this saying be able to give respect for you madmen (in a good way, as it's artillery that has saved countless lives of the brave folks who went out way beyond the wire and into the hellhole and couldnt get loose from the enemy.) from one who will probably never serve due to medical reasons (Medication I'm on, and mental problems that would only be exacerbated in service.) but will always respect the ones who can and do make the choice: "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition." It doesn't matter if you're Navy, Army, Marines or Air Force, always give love to the ones who carry the big boom and send it down the barrel.
"I spoke to God today, She says that She's ashamed. 'What have I become? What have I done?' I spoke to the Devil today, And He says He's not to blame. I understood, Cuz I feel the same." Jesus Christ, those lyrics kick my heart in the nuts every single time
@@verdigo5892 either your not a Vet or you never seen combat. I'm not judging you. I just want you to see it from our point of view. He spoke to God today. SHE was ashamed. He is using God as a metaphor of his wife. It represents the innocents and purity she never loses. It has nothing to do with gender. He spoke to the devil today and he's not to blame. Another metaphor that represents the demons he's fighting within his own self. The horror and the pain that is war. He in not way talking religion.
@@shannonflow2675 I didn't really interpret it that way myself, but that's a damn good one. I personally believe God is a woman since She's supposed to be all-loving and all-caring. Ivan did something terrible and God was ashamed at him, and when he told the Devil about it, the Devil tells him that was all Ivan's fault. Sort of like, "Don't look at me; you're the one who did this, I had nothing to do with it," to which Ivan replies, "Yeah, I figured as much."
Thank you for posting this reaction video. I'm married to a retired Army veteran who finished out his service career in the National Guard. This song helped me understand how much anger and resentment I had towards him. Your breakdown of the video gave me a much more complete picture of what is happening in this video and I thank you for that. The end scene is what hit home because that's when I realized I resented that he came home broken instead of whole. My husband watched it and the end scene resonated with him too because to him it could be his reality if we split. I appreciate your service and your volunteer work. Thank you again. You've gained a subscriber.
My husband served in the US Army and served 3 tours overseas. We lost him to suicide 6mths after he came home from his last tour. 💔 Our 3 sons and I miss him so very much every day 😢 I almost wish I had not stopped to watch this video 😭😭😭 The pain these soldiers are in is something we could never understand 💔 Thank you for your service Sir and Thank you for doing this video to spread awareness.
I'm incredibly sorry for your loss. Thank to your husband and family for your service. He will never be forgotten and forever respected. Prayers for you and your family 🙏
The little girl with the flowers got me. My daughters mom has my only child convinced I didnt want her while I was serving. 6 years and 2 tours my daughter doesnt know who I am and calls another man dad. I have been talking to her a little bit trying to rebuild something that was taken away from me. I feel that part of the video so hard in my heart. She is what got me through being hit by a mortar in 2010 and she doesnt even know me.
I’m sorry you’re having to go through the pain caused by this kind of situation but time is on your side. It may take awhile but kids as they get older and they begin to develop their critical thinking and become independent they begin to piece together the puzzle. Kids that are alienated from a parent harbor a tremendous amount of resentment and rightfully so. I know these are just words and they offer little long term effect when pain cuts so deep. I do hope that they will be uplifting in some sense and just know that I’m rooting for you and that little girl of yours ❤️🤍💙🤙
Don’t know why but it seemed like I should comment on the 2 topics separately. I want to thank you for your service and the sacrifices you made for me and my family and our country. Your sacrifice will never go unnoticed and will never be forgotten 🏔🗽🇺🇸
Hang in there. I am so sorry that you have lost time with your daughter I pray that you are able to repair that relationship. Thank you so much for your service. I love my country and I love and respect the men and women that are brave enough protect us. You are a true hero, please never forget how important you are. Love and respect!!!!!
You said she was What got you through and helped you survive that mortar! I hope you told her those EXACT WORDS and I PRAY that Her heart will KNOW Truth and the darkness will be taken from it so she can see the light and the love in your heart for her ❤️ IN JESUS NAME, I ASK THIS!!! AMEN!!!!
"You saved my life brother" that shit is like a gut-punch every time I watch this, I break down like a baby. Idk why I watch this video as often as I do, I guess sometimes I need an excuse to cry and remember some folks.
Thank you! I am a 90's vet as well, no PTSD but I got hit with depression due to chronic back pain and the most helpful thing there is for me is to talk to other vets who are struggling as well. We all have that sense of comradery that brings us together from our service and connects us. What you did during your time in the army is awesome, you helped so many people and that is such a noble thing. Your volunteer work also speaks very highly of your character. This song always brings a tear to my eyes, but I am so glad you did this video. Keep up the great work!
When my buddy came back from Iraq in 06 he was a completely different person. I'd watch him light a cigarette and just stare at the flame while he shook... all I could do is keep reminding him he was home and try to be there for him. I could never imagine what our soldiers have been through. So thank you to any veteran reading this for doing what you did and please don't hesitate to reach out for help when you need it.
Thank you both for your service. I know your son is as proud of you as you are of him. If you ever need an outlet to talk to, even though I'm a civilian, I'm always open. I've lost friends to suicide and other events so I'm more than happy to help others.
I don't know or have anyone in the military but this song has gotten to me too . And I wanted to thank you for all your sacrifices you have done and for your service. ❤
My son just graduated from bootcamp. He's always wanted to join the Army. I supported that dream . I'm scared to DEATH with the people that are running this country that something will happen to my baby boy. I pray to God every day to keep him and his two friends that joined with him that they are kept safe . Thank you for posting this. May God bless you and your children.
Congratulations. My daughter graduated AIT last June. We knew what we signed up for with a long line of service in my fam. It slipped 2 male genz and she picked it up. She just went from reserves active duty. With prayers and faith but reluctant, she took the required jab. I know how you feel. We can do this. God is good though our lives can be traumatic, we will prosper and overcome. Prayers for you and yours from Hawai'i. With Aloha🌺.
My son leaves for bootcamp in February and under our current administration I to am so scared. Praying for all of our enlisted and our Veterans. May God protect us all.
I am Russian. My grandpa was the 2nd WW veteran. Being small I used to ask him: tell me what was the war like? And, he was saying just this: It was a meat-grinder. Yes, their lifes were grindered, traumatized so much. In Russia they are lucky if there is a supporting family. Otherwise, Veterans of any generation and any war, all of them are on surviving situation. I am so touched with this song. The FFDP is a well known in Russia among veterans specially. Thank you for showing so much respect to all of them and for your words of support and understanding their problems.
I served in Silent Service 91-95. Went out for a search/rescue training dive with 1 of my close shipmates who was a qualified Navy diver. We checked the weather and it was G2G, but at 80ft we felt a swift rocking of the currents. We surfaced and were in the middle of a down burst and waves kicked up to 6-8 ft. We locked arms and buddy kicked against the current trying to push us out. No words were said as we both just knew we were f*ck’d if we gave up. 100m from shore we got pulled apart. He was able to ride a wave in, but he saw me get slammed against a rock that was around 20ft tall once the wave pulled back and showed the size of it. The next wave crashed over me like a ton of bricks , sucked me to the bottom of that rock and he thought I was dead. A 3rd wave lifted me up and I hand walked the rock which allowed the wave to launch me into shore a few hundred meters south of his position. I walked up to him with a smile on my face and he gave me one of the biggest bro hugs. Talked to him recently after 20 years and he said he never took the dives for granted after that day because he thought he lost me. I told him he saved my life up to the rock with his superior strength, training, and mental toughness. His response was: “We were brothers and saved each other to that point, but you saved yourself. I saw you get hammered and vanish in a huge wall of water. I thought I lost you.” I never realized his point of view until 20 years later and how deeply that event impacted and stayed with him.
It's wild to hear the perspective from the past that you never considered, ain't it? I've managed to run across a few of the guys I was with over two decades ago... never thought they'd even remember me, much less have a story about how I impacted them and their path. I was wrong. We have an impact.
as a veteran...this song hits super hard. i didnt got through what a lot of my fellow vets did...but i still came back different. the struggle is real.
This song absolutely breaks my heart hearing this even without being a veteran, I can't imagine actually getting what they say on a truly personal level. Hugs.
My Dad will be buried in a week. He was 20 years Army. Ret in 94. I will always be proud of him and his service. I remember watching him struggle when he came home as a kid. Thank you all for serving, gone but not forgotten.
No because they gave their time and possibly the lives of loved ones so that others could remain free to do whatever it is they do but there isn't any 1 reason
Just understand, that's why we're so thankful, there's no time to ask why when their just following orders..War is hell, an we should never forget because the painful reality is that for some, that battle never ends..Never Forget..Be Thankful
Lost a very close friend of mine when he took his own life about 6 months ago. He was a combat wounded war vet. I miss his little crazy ass.. RIP Crazy Dave
Dang man I'm sorry to hear that that just brought tears to my eyes. It's unfortunate that veterans take their life and two Marines in my town came back and commited suicide and I felt like shit for hearing that. I wish I could of been there to save their lives even though I'm not a vet myself or never been in the service but I still care.
I'm not even a veteran, I just have veterans in my family, and everytime I watch this video I cry. It's such a shame our government sends our soldiers out to fight their wars, risking their lives, and then doesn't take care of our veterans like they should
Our Government is a joke! How can you not take care of somebody who fought to keep "them" safe.. it's ridiculous!! They get richer because of the soldiers doing their dirty work
@@XXNerdzillaXX yea man. I still love those willing to lay their lives on the line for our freedom. Rather they're being lied to or not. Those willing are incredible ppl.
My dad was drafted to Vietnam. He threw away all of his army things when he came home. I know he lost friends. And he’s only told me stories once when I was around 18. I’m almost 40 now. I’ll never ask him about it again. Anyway. This hit me hard. Thank you, OSN. You’re an inspiration.
My father is a Vietnam veteran too. He doesn’t talk about it either. He was in the special forces and can only imagine what we went through. Plus he got agent orange. Please tell your dad welcome home and thank you.
I came home in 2006 for my cousin's wedding, I'd already been to Bosnia in 97-98 and Iraq 04-05 My Uncle Howard had flown in from California. He did 2 tours in Nam (River Boat Patrol) and I'm the only one he ever talked to in detail about Vietnam because I understood. I deployed to Iraq again in 09-10. I was wounded in February 2005 by an IED while on patrol.

My father was also a vet from Vietnam. I'm 35, he has never said a single word about it. All I know is what I've heard when I go to the VA with him. He was one of those people who dealt with Agent Orange on a daily basis. That is about all I know. My Uncle also was in Vietnam and he has never once said anything he did. I just saw your video on Five Finger Death Punch. 🥹😭 I cried with you Bro!!! THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR YOUR SERVICE!!! May GOD BLESS you in SO MANY WAYS!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
My father served in vietnam. He was on a huey as the crew chief and door gunner. He came out alive, but messed up. He spent most of my young life into my mid 20’s on heroin and afraid to talk to me when he got clean. He stopped drinking, smoking, and heroin. When he was still on it we lost contact. Then got in contact, I gave him a chancw But saw that heroin was still controlling him. I walked away. I feel now that maybe that was a mistake. But that also caused him to finally wake up and finally get clean and stay clean. The fucked up part of it is he, like many over there, were exposed to agent orange. He has Parkinsons because of it. And the side effects of agent orange can be passed down to the Veitnam vets children. He and i are great now. We talk every day. Heroin does not control him. I am very proud of him.
Beeing a crewman especially manning a door gun of a chopper doing low flights is something no one wants to talks about. It emotionally dulls you or messes up something inside you. Proud to hear hes doing better.
My father is a combat vet from Vietnam. He never talked about it his whole life. He always had anger issues He finally got the help he needed when my daughter was born he took one look at her and started crying. Now he devotes his time to being a grandfather to all of his 17 grandchildren. HE finally told me that he had guilt for years for coming back alive. But now he knows his purpose was to be here for his grandchildren.
I can understand that feeling. I was so angry for so long. Why did I get to live when so many of my brothers who were better men than me didn't! It ate me up and almost cost me my whole life.
Showed this to my dad years back. Tough as nails vietnam war vet who doesn't take shit from anyone, and whose worked his ass off his whole life. One of the few times I've seen him cry.
Too many people don't know the aftermath of what our soldiers go through after the fight has been fought. Thank you to Five Finger for shedding more light on this important subject. God bless our troops and much respect to you all
When my baby brother came back he had such bad PTSD that the only ones who could reach him in a flashback were me and our mother. Probably because we are both under 5ft tall and have very soft voices. I won't say he is better now, but he has learned to cope and has a wonderful wife and 4 beautiful children and so proud of him and all other veterans.
I have a good friend of mine that served on 13 deployments in Iraq, the only way to break him out of a flashback was to get his old Sgt on the phone or call his mother. What little bit we have talked about seems like hell on earth. He "retired" after a building was blown down on top of him, the VA gave him 120 hydros a month to "fix" the back pain. Watching him lose everything, build it all back and lose it all again was probably the most heartbreaking thing I've had to see. He is also doing better now, been clean for a couple of years now. Tell your brother thank you for his service, the things he's had to endure no one should ever have to.
I am an italian veteran in service for 25 years ... i fought alongside my american brothers-in-arms in iraq in the battle on the euphrates river ... in the re-conquest of the gullistan valley and many others ... mine soul remained in those places ... but my heart goes out to my American brothers who, upon returning to a normal life, did not get the support and life they deserved after such a great sacrifice ... My mom is a Desert Storm/ Desert Shield Vet. I cried when I saw this video, my mom cried when I shared it with her too. There's no such thing as "only serving" though, anyone willing to sign that blank check to our military deserve all the respect in the world. There is two stickers that say everything about it as far as I'm concerned "Don't hate the Soldier, Hate the war" and "If you can't stand behind our soldiers feel free to stand in front of them." Thank you for your service and may you have all the good things come your way :)
Just randomly stumbled upon your video. I too am a Veteran and I was right there hand in hand with you crying for our brothers who come back but come back and can't handle life. One thing you said that really touched my heart was the fact you pointed out these are just good people who ended up serving their country. They are not to be blamed for the politics that got them their but its the politics that leave these good men by the wayside. These people deserve the world they are your father, your brother your friend, the neighbor down the street. yes they chose this job but the job didn't choose them meaning we all signed up just in case one day something happens and you must now pick up your weapon and focus on doing something that isn't normal. Whatever reason they are not to blame for becoming broken. We joke all the time while we are in comparing branches of service and who thinks who is better. Its funny how that changes when you get out and you run into folks who did exactly what you did but for another branch. It's crazy how quickly brothers in arms can bond with one another we are the only ones who understand. Thank you once again for the video.
I’m not a veteran or have ever served. But as a Brit, can I just thank you, as I thank my own countrymen and women who served and continue to serve their countries, fearlessly and patriotically. You’re loved and appreciated more than you’ll ever know. God bless the UK and the USA🇬🇧🇺🇸
God bless you, JT, for being one of those rare individuals respectful enough to reach out with such kindness. It is sincere gratitude from brothers like you who give our service its only value.
Same since i was in iraq shot twice thank god i survived im in my late 30s was in a fire fight i suffer from minor PTSD but i lost my brother to a sniper and my best friend im very lucky im not homeless but when a see a homeless vet all i say was i fought to i feel your pain the first time i was deployed and came back i had no home but i went back and bounced back to all my vets thank you for your service and some times you just got to look death in his eyes
My husband is from bosnia and survived this horrific war just because there were people like you. You've done an amazing job and thank you for your service with all my heart. Nobody should underestimate their work if its comming from heart. Thanks to all veterans out there. God bless
Love how you went threw this video💯 I was denied entry into the military due to asthma. However when I first saw this I lost my shit😭,,,,,, it's one of my favorite songs & I still cry when I hear it 💯 NOTHING BUT RESPECT FOR THOSE WHO DIED IN COMBAT & IN THIS REALITY AFTER THEY CAME HOME 🫂
That scene with the cops hit me hard. Been there and it really sinks in the stomach when he sees your pain and takes his rank off and talks to you on first name basis and backs off his posture to a relaxed and caring one. Damn
That takes one hell of a man to dress down to make a situation more at ease. I'm not a super fan of law enforcement because of the bad ones but i feel like you that that man did the right thing. 82nd AB, ALL THE WAY. My hat's off to you.
This is the reason I became a FFDP fan. They support the military and vets unconditionally. I'm a Navy Vet. We need to take care of our own. Thank you Brothers and sisters for all you have given and the support you provide.
My friend who was a marine committed suicide earlier this year. He served in iraq and was in Fallujah when the British bombed the city for 24 hours. He was a machine gunner... best one in training. RIP Brent Johnson. Wait for me up there. We'll go fishing together again bro.
As a vet that almost became homeless myself, the beginning of this really ripped a hole in my soul. I've tried to help so many fellow vet's because noone who protects our country deserves to be forgotten.
Brother...I was a Grunt-turned-Medic in the Aussie Army... I ended up a PMC in the MEAO and whilst I worked security employing my Grunt skill sets, I volunteered my Medical Skills-Sets when I had down time...I swear treating kids was the worst and it is the fuel of my nightmares. Never sell your trauma short Brother-in-Arms. This song never fails to having me rinsing dust from my eyes! Reach out anytime you need to chat to a fellow "Doc".
"You saved my life Brother."... Never realized that's what he said until now... I've seen this video tons of times and this scene always choked me up... Now after realizing that's what he said.... fuck...i can't even....
The military changes you, whether you realize it or not. When you eventually get out, you'll realize it. It affects everyone different, you might hear something like "post service depression" (varies depending on branch), it is real. I went through it and it was rough for me, but I've seen others not really be affected by it. Enjoy your experiences regardless of how bad or good, as you will somewhat miss it.
Brother, state side veteran here... DON'T ever be afraid to show your emotion!! This emotion show that we are real!! I'm right there with you..I cry every time I see this video!! One veteran lost to suicide is one too many!! Peace
"I only served in Bosnia" I wouldn't care if you served on fucking Mars, you served. That's more than I can and will ever do. Takes a lot of courage to lay down your life and accept that you may lose your life in order to save others. And also to do what you did helping with refugees. I have all my respects for you.
I’ve skipped over this video so many times…..I was an 03 in Iraq and afghan. I can never make it through this video even the song alone. But thank you for doing this brother.
Stay strong young lady. Your father will never be forgotten. His legacy can live on within you

“I only served in Bosnia”
Don’t ever say that shit man. Period!
Well said
Service is service.
Very well said. And absolutely 100% facts
You served
Yes, 19D, 2nd ACR
You are a Angel sent by God to this man in his darkest hour. Thank you. I can't stand to keep losing all of you.
God bless you and the man you saved. Thank you for serving ❤
Wow, much respect to you for what you did.
Thank you for your service!
wow that's incredible, this story brought a tear to my eye. I think god sent you there for a reason.
When I was homeless, over half the men I was on the streets with were vets. Talking to them was very humbling
Wow, how’d you recover?
Yeah I'm off the streets. Where I was had great resources that helped many homeless get jobs and housing and rebuild their lives.
And, I do
AMEN BROTHER!
A FICKIN MEN!
a wise man once said "if we can afford to send them to war, we can afford to take care of them, if we can't afford to take care of them? then we can't afford to send them to war"
@@bujtorm well spoken sir
Amen brother but, do understand that a true veteran doesn't want you to take care of them. They want to be heard they want someone to listen and they want a fare chance without being portrayed as a monster. They're smart, clever, hard working and will be the first to give of themselves in both effort and time in teaching others. Because in the military that's what you do, that's how you do it. Unfortunately even a good leader can only deal with corporate for so long. Sometimes back then I couldn't decide which was worse, coming back from deployment or going to work for corporate. Situations like that will make you question why you ever went in sometimes. Until you see that flag waving in the wind then it all comes back to you like it was yesterday and the feeling is truly undeniable.
bla bla.. war is always just a bisness for elites!

"I only served in Bosnia"
My dude, I have a friend who only came out of Bosnia thanks to people like you. I don't care what anyone says, that was a war, even if our governments never openly declared it. Please don't discount your service in those conflicts just because it wasn't open war
Can everybody bump this?
According to my scuba instructor, Bosnia was fucked. He lost his best mate there because of a sniper, I think. To whoever served wherever that may be, thank you for your service.
How many other "non wars" do you think we're in right now
So you served. Whether in peace or wartime, You served. Thank you my friend...my brother, my protector my leader.
SOMEONE JUST ACTUALLY ASKED ME:
"Hey crybaby since your crying got you 100K+ views on this video, how much money did you make off of the backs of veterans and five finger death punch? Nothing makes me more sick that you people mooching off of the artists!!"
Well thank you for your kind words lol actually I have made EXACTLY $0.00 from this video because the music group that FFDP is part of claimed all rights to this reaction.... and I am 100% happy with that they made the video they made the music so it belongs to them.
Bruh, I'm a vet with PTSD, and this song brings me to tears every time I watch it. I appreciate your reaction and understand the emotions you feel
That person who made the comment has no respect for veterans how u let them sleep peacefully at night cause you fought for them you fought for us
As you pointed out during your reaction, there are a^^holes in every walk of life.
😢
I'm so sorry man.. I'm glad you are doing better now
@drkphxmedia I appreciate your sacrifice Sir. "Rascal Flatts" that's awesome. How are you doing ?
I would love to see a politician fight their own war
Good luck war is just a dollar sign for them
Same. But, I doubt their multi-billionaire business overlords would ever let them
George Washington lol
They won’t, they might chip a nail.
Hahaha stop trying to be a comedian and stick to your day job
How can I help??? Please tell me. Our vets should be the most honored humans.
Your husband is an incredibly lucky man to have a partner like you!
This is amazing much respect for your husband
Respect.
I haven't written anything in almost 20 years, and have never let anyone read anything I wrote. But then, I've never spent 25 minutes listening to a 5 minute song before, so here goes...
Forgive me if it's a little rough in spots.
Years spent far away,
Forgotten by my children.
Shattered, full of holes.
Pieces left behind
Not my body, but my soul,
Never to come home.
A saying said too often;
That freedom isn't free
More than death in consequence
Or so it feels to me.
And the silence is so loud,
My never ending scream;
Silent tears, unspoken,
Hidden carefully
Raven heart, turn grey.
Light, shine faintly from within.
Hope where have you gone?
Lost in memories,
But nothing left of feelings,
Forgotten... so long...
Yet each step I take,
Head down, heel to toe, I plod;
Endlessly push on
Believing one day
I'll remember how to feel.
I will soldier on.
Thank you for sharing this you are loved brother
Beautiful 💔❤️
Great poem bro.
Thank you for your service, I'll remember this poem
That's beautiful man. Never be afraid to show your emotions. They are who you are. Let the haters hate, it is only because of envy.
I know this is an old comment but I hope your buddies alright out there man
I did 8 years myself. I am 3 years removed and just today , I decided to actually reach out and get help man about my PTSD. Keep strong fellow veterans. And remember, You are not alone.

Hey man. Been a week since your comment how is everything going? Just looking out brother hope everything is well for you.

We need the Veteran protection act. No Veteran should go homeless or hungry, we owe these individuals a debt that can never be repaid.
With socialdemocrats at power... never
Many european countries are social democracies and they take better care of guys than our VA who writes scripts to keep guys doped up and quiet until they end up homeless or somewhere else I remember I was a kid and my father would wake up 2 3 o clock in the morning I would hear him get up and go to the kitchen or living room to breath and I asked him alot to talk about it and he finally did when I came back from boot before I was going back for act then deployment and the things he saw during the gulf through storm tore him up inside
@Rage Poulin okay I know this is the wrong crowd to say this but you're completely delusional and the idea that vets not getting the support they obviously should have is connected to faking injuries is completely lost
vets don't get support because of a lack of structural governmental support systems like psychiatric help and financial (I'm not an expert at all correct me if there are better support systems that are also missing) support.
This isn't because of either left or right oriented politics but because of a terrible baseline. Quit your bs.
I agree I’ve seen to many homeless
A good friend of mine was a native Canadian and he got drunk one night and decided to end himself on the railroad tracks
This was 15 minutes after talking to him
He couldn’t let go of the horror he saw in bosnia
has nothing to do with veterans, no human should go homeless or hungry, its called human rights. You know like social care, health care and all the other stuff that the developed countries except the USA have.

All those who've served, welcome home, thank you for all your sacrifices for the freedoms we have. I am forever grateful
@John McLawson Wars have long since been fought for freedom and largely fought for greed masked with illusions of patriotism.. The last true war Americans fought for freedom was the civil war.
@@ThatWhichObserves I could argue that WWII was the last war fought with noble intentions.
May I offer you a small piece of advice Sir.
I am just so goddam fukin sick and tired of hearing the war I fought in was for OIL or blah blah blah, ....really the war is over and done with for you yet somedays it's not even close to being over with.(kinda like right fucing now)
So any opinion negative opinion you do have.

@@echohunter4199 Rahh brother.
I owe my life to a marine sniper. Barely twenty, and scared. Three or four got behind us. Cav scouts were moving light at that point, and I already had grenade fragments in my shoulder.
I'm so sorry. I unfortunately know that pain too. I've lost friends during this fubar as well.
My uncle was a Vietnam vet, and the rare time he spoke about it he said what hurt the most was coming home and being spit on and being called a baby killer, (he was drafted) but people love to hate. I wish I knew more but he never spoke about what happened and lived in Washington state in a cabin he built, to get away from the world
R.I.P uncle **** I wish I could have spoken to you as a man, not your brothers little kid...but by the time I was old enough to understand your pain you were gone, and all I have is a few anecdotes and the card you sent me at 13 that said now your grown give em hell, and I hope you know 20 years later I still read that and hope you'd be proud of the life I've lived
My grandpa said the same thing, he was in First aviatalion
@@pikehunter23750 your dad's lucky you guys are able to visit, I know my dad (his brother) and our side didn't make it out as often as we wanted to, Washington state's a trip from the east coast, and my uncle's later years rendered him paraplegic we suspect from something he was exposed to in nam...
Too many suffer alone, I'm glad your dad despite everything has you guys, even if he doesn't say it I hope it gives him some peace of mind, and on behalf of strangers on the internet his service is respected and I thank him for it.
My dad said the same thing. That is the only thing he ever said about the Vietnam war
This hit me hard from out of the blue. I'm so sorry for your loss and his suffering.
I'm so sorry for your loss!! One veteran lost is one too many!!

Ivan Moody, the band’s frontman told Stereogum:
“When we were over in Iraq playing our USO tour, I had one soldier come up to me, and he laid a burnt iPod down on the table. I literally teared up.”
Including war imagery in songs and playing for the troops is nothing new, but Five Finger Death Punch takes it a step further by employing a slew of veterans in their shows, tours, and other material.

You aren't alone. Hell I am crying right now.
Never be ashamed to cry it's God in your heart dude.
Same thing here.
Don't need an excuse to feel.
Holy crap I hadn't lip-read that until your comment!!! (Paying it forward, it's at @18:03 )
I’m so sorry
Thank you brother. God bless you
Iraq is a very ugly beast...
Amazing story.. when my friends came back after 9/11... They definitely wasn't the same. God Bless them, like Vietnam 2.0
I suffer from PTSD myself from a little dust up from 64-75. My son being KIA in Iraq, 2008 made it alot worse. I'm with you brother, I get it!!!
Thank you both for your service. I know your son is as proud of you as you are of him. If you ever need an outlet to talk to, even though I'm a civilian, I'm always open. I've lost friends to suicide and other events so I'm more than happy to help others.
I'm right there along with The Tuned Tank. My door is always open for you and anyone willing to open up and talk.
Thank you to you and your precious son for your service❤️❤️❤️❤️
As it has been said "Many soldiers will return from war but none can ever go home"
That's the truth we never come back home the same
It's sad but true I've watched many soldiers come back but they are never ever the same from what all they have seen😢
Fact no one wants a killer even yourself
I don't know or have anyone in the military but this song has gotten to me too . And I wanted to thank you for all your sacrifices you have done and for your service. ❤
My son just graduated from bootcamp. He's always wanted to join the Army. I supported that dream . I'm scared to DEATH with the people that are running this country that something will happen to my baby boy. I pray to God every day to keep him and his two friends that joined with him that they are kept safe . Thank you for posting this. May God bless you and your children.
He's in AIT now I'm guessing. He'll be able to contact y'all more often, which is a plus.
Love and prayers your baby comes home safe 💓

I can't even imagine that. I'm glad you both are still with us.
as a veteran...this song hits super hard. i didnt got through what a lot of my fellow vets did...but i still came back different. the struggle is real.
This song absolutely breaks my heart hearing this even without being a veteran, I can't imagine actually getting what they say on a truly personal level. Hugs.
Stuff is tuff, but letting people know that u r there for them in their darkest is wet matters
My Dad will be buried in a week. He was 20 years Army. Ret in 94. I will always be proud of him and his service. I remember watching him struggle when he came home as a kid. Thank you all for serving, gone but not forgotten.
Not a veteran but sure respect the ones who always will be. Never forget
Why though? Just because they signed up for a dangerous job?
No because they gave their time and possibly the lives of loved ones so that others could remain free to do whatever it is they do but there isn't any 1 reason
Just understand, that's why we're so thankful, there's no time to ask why when their just following orders..War is hell, an we should never forget because the painful reality is that for some, that battle never ends..Never Forget..Be Thankful
@@marcushinely7281 totally agree 👍

Lost a very close friend of mine when he took his own life about 6 months ago. He was a combat wounded war vet. I miss his little crazy ass.. RIP Crazy Dave
Dang man I'm sorry to hear that that just brought tears to my eyes. It's unfortunate that veterans take their life and two Marines in my town came back and commited suicide and I felt like shit for hearing that. I wish I could of been there to save their lives even though I'm not a vet myself or never been in the service but I still care.
I too have lost a brother to the battle in his own head. John Counts, you are still with me every day, RIP!
They get richer because of the soldiers doing their dirty work
Our veterans should be treated like royalty.
Vietnam was based on a lie... The gulf on Tonkin incident never happened. It was declassified not too long ago. Sad eh?

@@OldSkuleNerd you don't need to thank me Brother I enlisted for the G.I. Bill in 96 at 18 and well being a country boy from Maine I took to being a Scout like a fish takes to water. I will NEVER forget my Brother's who didn't come home.
All I know is in 2007 he retired from the military. He will never speak of a single thing that he did during his 40+ years.
Then got in contact, I gave him a chancw
But saw that heroin was still controlling him.

Yeah, hate the politicians that start them.
I get the feeling as though the 2nd sticker was made in support of active troops in mind, but not the Vets in need.
Tell your Mama hang in there, I am a DS Veteran too. We shared and worked in the same Sandbox long ago...😉
No one hates war more than a soldier.

It affects everyone different, you might hear something like "post service depression" (varies depending on branch), it is real.
