My dad was in the Vietnam war as well( but to us Hmong people it's known as the Secret War). He was recruited by the CIA to draw maps of the jungle of Laos to help the Americans gain entrance to Vietnam. Unfortunately, my dad died by suicide last year. He had depression, ptsd, and delusions. It's my first time hearing this song/seeing this video and I was bawling with you! Thank you for your dads service. ❣️
Your Dad's Service saved countless lives... He may not have been a US Service member but to us HE IS A VETERAN! and you as his daughter are FAMILY. THANK YOU for sharing and sympathy on your loss.
My grandpa on my dad's side was too, and he's still alive I don't know if he has any of those though, I'm sorry for your loss, thank you for your dads service.

My uncle was a marine during Vietnam and did several missions he refused to talk about in Laos. Which in the VA eyes we never fought in, he would go in after agent orange was sprayed, he developed cancer from it. Va and government refused to help till after his death. He was the last member of our family that served.
@@KenBober My father was in Nam in 68-69 and got the Agent Orange disease lost a kidney and thyroid to cancer because of it and is still alive but disabled because of the injuries sustained while in combat and the combination of PTSD and agent orange. The PTSD really hit my dad in the mid 80s and he deals with it everyday. Growing up seeing that was intense to say the least. I would like to also say Thank you to your Uncle. Thankyou for his service.
Thank you, he didn't have ptsd much probably because he drank and smoked so much weed, he wasn't allowed to talk about his missions. My family has a large history of serving, one grandfather was on the uss Wisconsin from 44 to 46 my other grandfather set up the Phoenix cassions and stormed the beach, my other uncle was a marine m60 gunner on a helicopter during Vietnam, my great grandfather did serve during ww1 but don't know what.
Yeah I'm off the streets. Where I was had great resources that helped many homeless get jobs and housing and rebuild their lives.

Don’t ever say that shit man. Many of us “only served” in Bosnia, Haiti, Somalia, etc in the 90s. We saw and did shit no human should ever have to see or do. I couldn't get into the military from hearing loss as a kid, but was a volunteer firefighter, running bravely into anything that is a good chance of hurting you in the end is bravery and you have to at least be proud that you had the guts and glory to do it without hesitation and selflessness knowing you are doing it to help.... That's it. That's the good stuff

When i was sixteen i met a veitnam vet at walmart. I walked up to him shook his hand and said thank you for your service. I told him that if he didnt hear it when he came home, welcome home. He broke down crying. From that moment on we became friends. I learned he lived in my town. I rode past his house every day delivering papers. After that day when i was done delivering i would go sit with him on his porch and talk with him. At first it was just the weather and what the farmers were doing and how school was for me. After a little while he started talking to me about his tour in nam. I heard things no 16 year old kid should hear. He passed the year i graduated. I was one of very few who went to his funeral. Afterwards his lovely wife asked to see me. She told me i was the only one he would talk to about his service. He refused to talk to a shrink the people at the va. Nobody. But he talked to me. Ptsd is real and it hurts more than the soldier who has it. I respected that man. And respect all those past and present who chose to wear the uniform and keep us safe. My buddy came back from iraq and was so messed up from what he saw and had to do he drank and drank. We tried to get him to go to rehab and talk to someone. He went and a week later he was on the streets. We have no idea what happend to him. I hope he found help. We never found him. We need to do more for those who come back broken. Theres no other word for it. When they come back like that, something in their brain is telling them its wrong. We need to do more to help them fix themselves and get better. The pstd never really goes away. But talking with someone really does help. If you are struggling with ptsd then find someone who is willing to listen.
Brother in Arms, when people tell me "Thank you for your service," I always reply "If you want to thank veterans, stop voting for the people who make more of us"
And don't care for those that exist. Those that leave our borders open to invasion and hand cash and care to those who come here in such a way, while ignoring the plight of warriors. Want to thank people for their service? Take care of the collateral damage of that service. Platitudes and checking the "culture" box, doesn't do that.
war always happens, regardless of whose in office. that's just how things are in this messed up world we live in. the people that say "thank you for your service" are usually very empathetic about the person in question. its more of a support for a fellow American.
With so many "diplomats" there shouldn't be war. We are supposed to be at the top of the food And intelligence chain, even different species if Animals will help each other, why can't we? Of course I know animals kill each other To Survive, To Protect their young but again, THEY are animals. My Dad was Navy during Viet Nam, he can't touch raw meat, he becomes uneasy when I butcher Anything, he won't hunt... I know why. He's Always been a great father, not just to me and my brothers but to my cousins and neighborhood kids. I make sure to tell him regularly how much he means to me, someone should.

Last October, I happened to be heading home from an event and while waiting to cross the street I noticed a guy with a 3rd Marines hat, with tears in his eyes. I looked at him and he quickly looked away as he wiped a tear from his eye and pretended as if I didn't see it. I asked him if everything was all right. He asked why I was asking. I told him I've only seen a Marine cry at a funeral for a fellow Marine and while not a Marine myself (US Army Veteran) I had served along side Marines and recognized his patch. We spoke on that bridge for over an hour and he informed me he was on his way to commit suicide (jumping off the bridge into the river) and was sad noone would miss him. I told him that I'm a Veteran and that I'd miss him. He broke down crying and hugged me. I put him in contact with a friend who works with 22 Until None and got him help. He has since gotten treatment for his depression, PTSD and alchohol abuse. I still regularly check up on him even though he moved back to San Diego. The point being you never know when a simple kind word can literally save someone's life.
You are a Angel sent by God to this man in his darkest hour. Thank you. I can't stand to keep losing all of you.

I was born 10th of December 1991 in Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina. Thanks to men like you, my mother was able to escape to Sweden with me. Thank you for being one of the brave soldiers that helped a lot of people in need. Giving children like me a chance to survive.

Was there in '93. So sad. Wish we did more, but I was only a contractor then, and we were only allowed to do so much...
In later years, I was able to direct some of our efforts there and elsewhere. I think, to this day, we helped more, in more ways and places than many may know...for whatever that may mean.

I always wondered how can a country that doesn't only spend the most on the planet on military, but spends as much as the next 6 countries together (and 3 of those are their allies), "can't afford" to support its veterans... The least you can do for the people who were literally ready to die to protect US interests anywhere on the planet is lifetime healthcare, proper mental care, and a veteran's pension that's high enough to stop them from ever going homeless. That should be the minimum.

Amen brother but, do understand that a true veteran doesn't want you to take care of them. They want to be heard they want someone to listen and they want a fare chance without being portrayed as a monster. They're smart, clever, hard working and will be the first to give of themselves in both effort and time in teaching others. Because in the military that's what you do, that's how you do it. Unfortunately even a good leader can only deal with corporate for so long. Sometimes back then I couldn't decide which was worse, coming back from deployment or going to work for corporate. Situations like that will make you question why you ever went in sometimes. Until you see that flag waving in the wind then it all comes back to you like it was yesterday and the feeling is truly undeniable.

According to my scuba instructor, Bosnia was fucked. He lost his best mate there because of a sniper, I think. To whoever served wherever that may be, thank you for your service.

One of my family members served in Bosnia and Kosovo. He has served for over 15 years in the Slovakian Paratrooper Regiment, and he said that It was very fucked over there. He never talked or will talk specifically about what he saw. For example, when I asked him about the worst thing he saw, hr only said "If I told you that, God himself wouldn't allow you into heaven. If I tell you this secret of mine, you will have many sleepless nights thinking about it and it will haunt you just as much as it haunts me" (I had to translate this phrase from Slovak to English so you would all understand it). After that, I never asked about his military experiences again. I have an immense amount of respect for him and I am currently trying to follow in his footsteps by enlisting in the Slovak Army, and then the 5th SFG Regiment. Also, 95% of my family has served in the military, even my mother and grandmother.
My mom is a Desert Storm/ Desert Shield Vet. I cried when I saw this video, my mom cried when I shared it with her too. There's no such thing as "only serving" though, anyone willing to sign that blank check to our military deserve all the respect in the world. There is two stickers that say everything about it as far as I'm concerned "Don't hate the Soldier, Hate the war" and "If you can't stand behind our soldiers feel free to stand in front of them." Thank you for your service and may you have all the good things come your way :)

I lost my family because of military service. My wife cheated and then used my training against me in court to say I was a dangerous parent. I ended up homeless in Seattle and about to end it all one night staying with a friend. I literally owe my life to Rascal Flatts of all things. One of their songs stopped me from completing the task. I have struggled every day since, but I make it work and continue to fight for a good life nowadays. Now I tried to help as many veterans as I can whenever I can. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL & the war to protect the 22% is an uphill battle. Hug a veteran whenever you can.

My husband is a disabled veteran. I got him a meet n greet with FFDP before the show we went to in Charleston. He shook their hands and I handed them a letter to read that I found that my husband wrote with the intent on sending it to them... we were all in tears after that letter and they all hugged him and dedicated the song to him during the show. He was standing there silently, with tears running down his face while it played. One of the most amazing experiences ever.
We need to do better for our veterans. PTSD isn't something that just goes away. We have to create a better program to help them when they finally come home and when they finally get out of the service. I refuse to let my husband become a statistic.

I am in school to be an Occupational Therapy Assistant and veterans are a dear cause in my heart. Though no one in my family had ever seen combat, my maternal grandfather was drafted into the navy reserves (early 50's?), my father was drafted into the navy reserves in the early 70's, and my husband volunteered for the USMC-R but had a weird bodily reaction in boot camp to a twisted ankle that lead to him almost losing the same leg twice.
I have actually done projects in three different classes that revolved around veterans with mTBI, PTSD and CTE and I showed the un-reacted to version of this to my whole class at the end of a presentation. Whether you like metal or not, this song hits you right in the feelings from the start.
How can I help??? Please tell me. Our vets should be the most honored humans.

I might be late to the party, my brother… but I still remember it all in glimpses. Sometimes, when i blink & open my eyes… i’m still there. When my fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, ptsd, etc are at their worst, I cannot stop the pain of remembering the hidden cost we bare in silence. I know what’s hidden at the bottom of a drink or beer, the hope that it will numb the pain & stop remembering if only for a few hours.

My dad was a combat engineer. My mom was in Army Intelligence and counter intelligent. My mom met my dad and had me after a bonfire party. I was adopted out. I found them late in life. However, the love I have for them after I found them is completely wonderful. My dad has passed, and my mom and her British vet husband are alive and wonderful. God bless you and I pray that He will bless the work you do for our vet family.
We need the Veteran protection act. No Veteran should go homeless or hungry, we owe these individuals a debt that can never be repaid.

Many european countries are social democracies and they take better care of guys than our VA who writes scripts to keep guys doped up and quiet until they end up homeless or somewhere else I remember I was a kid and my father would wake up 2 3 o clock in the morning I would hear him get up and go to the kitchen or living room to breath and I asked him alot to talk about it and he finally did when I came back from boot before I was going back for act then deployment and the things he saw during the gulf through storm tore him up inside

vets don't get support because of a lack of structural governmental support systems like psychiatric help and financial (I'm not an expert at all correct me if there are better support systems that are also missing) support.

I did 8 years myself. I am 3 years removed and just today , I decided to actually reach out and get help man about my PTSD. Keep strong fellow veterans. And remember, You are not alone.
I tried to enlist but was turned away at MEPS due to a heart murmur. Biggest regret was not being able to serve. I'm glad you're getting the help you need. I know I live in a better world because men and women such as you did what I could not. Stay strong.

I'm still active, five years deep in two months, and I can say that sometimes we just can't make it there when we're needed most, wherever there is. So I'm trying to change the mindset.
I may not be able to reach you, or anyone else physically, so you may feel alone.
But I'll swear on anything that there's someone somewhere else, going through the mental wringer just like you. You just gotta think that y'all are going through it together, and that someone will help you as long as you actively call for help (and sometimes even when you don't).

I am from Denmark, a veteran, still in the service - 5 deployments in 3 different armed conflicts, among them 2 tours to Helmand as part of the Danish Battle Group Staff in MOB Price 2010 and Lashkar-Gah with TF7 in 2012. This video punches right through the heart !
In Denmark, some of the vets that are struggling the most, are the ones who were deployed to the Balkans in the 90's - they are the ones, that have the most severe cases of PTSD and are struggling today, because back then, PTSD was not reckognized ......... people were told to suck it up !! Some of our Helmand vets are not far behind, but at least they get help and our social security network is probably more tight than a lot of other countries.
But as you say .......... it's real, its every day, and it is hurtful, not only for the vet, but also for his or her family and loved ones !! Many vets live in that reality and many struggle !! ANY and EVERY little contribution helps ..... and respect & acknowledgement also goes a long way !
Same for me. I was homeless for three years in Los Angeles. And by the grace of someone in the sky. I was out panning in front of a Vons grocery store and the manager, Carlos. He called me into the store helped me make a resume and get a job as a courtesy clerk and now I’m a deli clerk in the Rancho Santa Margarita Pavilions and about to get my first house. There is some good people out there. And I’m still thankful for what that man gave me. Don’t be ashamed to cry man. Be proud of what you succeeded in and good things will come out of this life we live. Just gotta keep strong. Don’t be afraid to cry bro. That’s what makes us human and embrace that. Thank you for your service.

I'm an army vet also brother. I can't watch this video without crying and thinking about why I survived and why others couldn't come back home. I cry almost daily thinking about the friends I've made and watched get buried due to suicide. To serve comes with a lifelong heavy heart and more grief then any man can bear.

For a country that boasts about having the greatest military spending, the US doesn't seem to be placing enough of the military budget where it needs to go.

I say we take money from what will end up destroying itself and give that research money to those who deserve it. If the people who operate the weapons are broke and thrown away. I myself served with great honor with the U.S. Army in Baghdad Iraq and I was nearly killed by the enemy combatant in Baghdad, when I came home from Iraq I was given the medical boot. I once thanked a Vietnam veteran for his service and he said to me, "next time you see a Vietnam vet, tell him welcome home, because when we came home we were spit on and never told that" it hit so strongly because I saw what the ptsd and memories did to my grandfather. Im a vet myself, served 4 yrs active 4 yrs guard in the army as an HVAC tech. I never deployed but I had many friends who I considered brothers and sisters that deployed and came back changed. I try my best to be there for them no matter what because I know that if it was me, they'd do the same. We're a family, and I'll always fight for my family.
Hell yeah, I got deployed to Iraq twice as a USMC infantryman. By God or by luck, I never saw serious combat, though I knew others who did. You are a good man.
i was in the reserves. after the month i left, my old unit got diploid to afghanistan. i felt like a bastard. i never forgave myself. nor shall i, ever.

As a middle-eastern who never went to usa you veterans are heroes and should be treated well , there is always a bad apple but still a man who sacrifices to his country should be respected enemy or friend . Thank you for your real and raw reaction. I have not served in the military but all the men in my family have served. Doesnt matter how many times i watch this video, i cry every time. I struggle with ptsd but induced from childhood trauma. Its a reality that we should realize that our veterans are struggling every day. Thank you for your service even if you think it was insignificant.
My daughter is a vet and suffers every day. It is so heartbreaking and no one ever recognizes what she did and has went through. She’s a beautiful girl that loves life and I’m so proud. Thank you for this video and ur service.
I lost my best friend after she survived 3 tours, 2 in Afghanistan and 1 more in Iraq, her husband cheated on her and left her. She did make it home but 6 months after she got her DD214 then she killed herself 9 months later from deep deep depression. I miss her so much and wish I could have helped her more. RIP Stacey Langdon.

Last year my squad leader committed suicide.. he suffered from PTSD because he saw combat. He was such a funny guy and I remember having long talks with him at our unit about his mental health issues, his love life and basically everything, he just loved to talk. He could call to check up on his squad if anything crazy went down, and you'd end up on the phone for hours lol. My husband was planning on inviting him over to our house for dinner when the covid lock downs started. We always said once the lock downs were over we'd have him over for a bbq.. but he was found dead in his home in July 2020. We couldn't even have a proper memorial for him. It was all virtual. Everyone loved him, had great stores, and he got along with anyone. He will always be missed.
I'm so sorry. I unfortunately know that pain too. I've lost friends during this fubar as well.
It sucks, because everyone with some kind of mental issue had to fight real hard last year, more than anyone else can realize, and i can't fathom what it could have been like for someone who's struggling already with ptsd to be locked away from everyone else, from all those interactions that helped them push through. I'm not a veteran, but i've always been an inch from enlisting, to the point that at the beginning of 2020 and all that war talk, i made the resolution to enlist as soon as something broke out. I have only respect for those that chose to make that sacrifice, so i salute you, and i'll join in to remember your squad leader o7

Just remember you've survived literal war, and if you take it one day at a time, a day will be a week, a week will be a month, a month will be a year, and one year will turn into so much more. One day, you'll look back and realize that you made it through... God knows how..... but you made it. Go to therapy if you need to. Take your friends with you, your family, and learn together how you can battle those nasty feelings and grow from it. You don't have to let it consume you. @@CedroLinkin Yea, I don't have PTSD either, but I do suffer from anxiety and depression. I used to self harm and drink so much but I stopped for our daughter. I'm blessed to have been able to have had other human interactions while in lock down, but my squad leader had just moved into his new place. Sometimes I wonder if he would've stayed with his roommates, if he would've still been alive. But we don't want to blame anyone though, we all knew he suffered from mental illness, he was very open about it.. we just never expected that to happen. If you think the military is your calling, go for it don't let anything hold you back but just remember it's not for everyone. Be sure you're physically and emotionally ready too. I sob every time he recognizes him. My dad has PTSD and because of this we almost lost our house and my parents did everything but sign the divorce papers. I’m 24 now and my ptsd/my dad tribute tattoo I have has the lyrics to this song on it “I’m no hero and I’m not made of stone” because after my dad started treatment and got a service dog he was able to finally open up and my dad has always said “I don’t feel like a hero” and one day a few month after he started treatment we were just rocking out and this song came on and it was the first time I saw my daddy cry. It makes me cry everytime, even as a someone who isn't a vet and had no family (to my knowledge) who has ever served. I have many friends who are in the military now. The tattoo shop I go to for piercings and tattoo work had this video playing and I cried during my tattoo cause of it.

i'm so thankful that my dad came back from the military, he served as a marine in Desert Storm and i didn't learn until later in life that he came back with night terrors for a long time. he finally recently got help from the VA for the injuries he received while in the military. i absolutely love five finger deathpunch.
I lost my sister in 2011 in the army to suicide after she lived with severe PTSD and a TBI from an IED in OIF in 09. I have nothing but LOVE and admiration for all our veterans. End the 22.

My uncle was a Vietnam vet, and the rare time he spoke about it he said what hurt the most was coming home and being spit on and being called a baby killer, (he was drafted) but people love to hate. I wish I knew more but he never spoke about what happened and lived in Washington state in a cabin he built, to get away from the world

My dad rotated back only to get spit on in the airport and called a baby killer too. Dad was at THE base where the baby killer shit started. A little kid, pumped full of opium and an AK in hand, sent out by her parents to kill GI.....and she did. Many GI. The threat had to be stopped. Fucking war. Of course the liberal media spun that story like they always do. No one back home here never knew the real story. Dad never spoke of any of this until he was in his 70s. He survived Tet '68. To this day he still wakes up at 3am on January 31st...every single year after. He doesn't load up the shotgun and walk the perimeter of the house anymore to clear like he used to. Now, my brother and I show up at 3am to make him pancakes and shoot the shit till 5am and then I head back home to get some sleep. The stories he has finally told me about Tet are unbelievable at best. He's a bitter man. Didn't even cry at his Dad's funeral. He had to fly home from Nam to go to his moms' funeral. He didn't have enough time in country so he had to rotate back to Nam to finish his time after he buried his mom. Fuck, that alone would break anyone at that age I'd think. He was a hard man to grow up with. I never understood him as a child. Not until I was over the hill did I finally start to understand him....well, as best as I could. He hasn't said all that he wants to and that's fine. I hope your Uncle found some peace in life. My Dad has really pushed a lot of people away and my parents ultimately divorced before their 50th. I hope some day Dad can find some peace in life as well.

This is why every time I see that "Vietnam Veteran" hat or patch, I make it a point to show appreciation for what they did. They did not deserve that tag nor the way they were treated when they returned home. Some of them, like my great-uncle, didn't get to return home from Nam. He gave his life saving his own men.
My step dad was in Vietnam as well he wouldn't talk about it, it totally changed him he was a great man, only man who ever tryed to help my mom. But I want to thank you for you service my friend, thanks for sharing and what you do, God bless you bro, never forget. ❤
I love this song, but it always stirs up emotions. I served in Afghanistan, and I've lost more brothers since we've been home than we did over there. I get mad now when I get notified of another brother who chooses a permanent solution to a temporary problem. One of my best friends took his life while his fiancé went to the store, and she was pregnant with his daughter. She came home and found him, and his daughter will never know him. I have many others who left their wives and children behind. Breaks my heart.
I served in the army from 2000-03. Did a tour in Iraq. When I got out, I experienced nearly everything in this video. I was homeless for a number of years, lost my wife and kids. My father is a marine vet that served in Vietnam, and dealt with a lot of these issues as well. This song always makes me breakdown in tears. And that's ok.

My husband served in the US Army and served 3 tours overseas. We lost him to suicide 6mths after he came home from his last tour. 💔 Our 3 sons and I miss him so very much every day 😢 I almost wish I had not stopped to watch this video 😭😭😭 The pain these soldiers are in is something we could never understand 💔 Thank you for your service Sir and Thank you for doing this video to spread awareness.

Same since i was in iraq shot twice thank god i survived im in my late 30s was in a fire fight i suffer from minor PTSD but i lost my brother to a sniper and my best friend im very lucky im not homeless but when a see a homeless vet all i say was i fought to i feel your pain the first time i was deployed and came back i had no home but i went back and bounced back to all my vets thank you for your service and some times you just got to look death in his eyes

I remember when our Vietnam Veterans were coming home.
I could not understand why they were treated so horribly. They were heroes to me as a young girl.
I have always had them all in my heart.
I ended up working at a VA hospital and I got to know quite a few of My Soldiers.
The VA back then was a truly horrific place for our brave heroes to have to go to.
The military changed my Dad from what my family has told me. He went in a funny, loving 17 year old and came back with his demons.
I was always afraid of him but at the same time I was very protective of him.
I pray all the time for all of you and I hate what people are doing with our freedoms that you guys and girls fought so hard to protect.
I hate every warmongering politician for sending innocent brave boys and girls to war.

The guys at the wounded warrior project use my dad's story to help spread awareness of PTSD and the effects it has on homeless vets.
My dad was abandoned by the VA, he died alone in a halfway house trying to drown his memories.

A fallen warrior who was left by his government and lost his battle to his demons, being found after he is gone and eventually having others tell his story to try to prevent more like him........May your father be given his well deserved peaceful rest, and your family always given respect.
For the Artillery Flingers who read this, may this saying be able to give respect for you madmen (in a good way, as it's artillery that has saved countless lives of the brave folks who went out way beyond the wire and into the hellhole and couldnt get loose from the enemy.) from one who will probably never serve due to medical reasons (Medication I'm on, and mental problems that would only be exacerbated in service.) but will always respect the ones who can and do make the choice:
"Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition."
It doesn't matter if you're Navy, Army, Marines or Air Force, always give love to the ones who carry the big boom and send it down the barrel.
My son just graduated from bootcamp. He's always wanted to join the Army. I supported that dream . I'm scared to DEATH with the people that are running this country that something will happen to my baby boy. I pray to God every day to keep him and his two friends that joined with him that they are kept safe . Thank you for posting this. May God bless you and your children.

Congratulations. My daughter graduated AIT last June. We knew what we signed up for with a long line of service in my fam. It slipped 2 male genz and she picked it up. She just went from reserves active duty. With prayers and faith but reluctant, she took the required jab. I know how you feel. We can do this. God is good though our lives can be traumatic, we will prosper and overcome. Prayers for you and yours from Hawai'i. With Aloha🌺.

I was in the Marine Corps. It cost me a marriage, loosing multiple friend to suicide, the degradation of my body, and a lot of mental illness/trauma that I am still battling 4 years after getting out. This song and this reaction hit different. Thank you for making this video brother.

I'm the daughter of an Australian army veteran, sister to an Australian naval veteran and a retired naval reservist myself. My biggest passion is military mental health. I helped open the Australian Open Arms national call centre. My heart breaks with every single suicide, my anger rises that we aren't doing enough to support veterans. Any Australian veteran is welcomed in my home for a feed, a hot shower, a bed and a compassionate ear.

My best friend served in the United States Army in Iraq. I was with my best friend the night he killed himself. He always told us he'd die before he went back to the VA. That night we were all laughing and having fun when he got up and went inside, a few moments later we heard the gun shot. I hate that I can remember that night better than any of the other memories with him. Even the smell I can't forget it, and on really rough days it comes back. I can't count the times I've been out in public and saw someone and wanted to run up to them because I thought it was him. Reality kicks back in and it all comes crashing back, it's never going to be him. The soldier I thought so much of, my hero isn't coming back. I remember being so mad at him and I wanted to shake him and scream, "Why?! Why did you do this?!" I'm never going to get an answer to that question. I still get angry at people when they say to me "He's in a better place now" or "At least he's not hurting anymore" this is not what I want to hear. I know they mean well and they are trying to be sympathetic but when they say things like that I interpret it as "this was his only choice, what he did was right and you need to get over it". I know that's not what they're saying and I know I shouldn't get mad, but it still hurts and it's hard sometimes.
This hit me hard from out of the blue. I'm so sorry for your loss and his suffering.

I'm happy that he had those last moments with you, I'm angry that those moments are forever intertwined with his choice. I hope you are able to work through that anger and that you can find peace with it. I don't think it ever goes away and I'm so sorry.

As a veteran who has friends who have done this and lost some of my closest friends and family, the only thing I can say is, I'm sorry this happened to you and all those affected by his loss. He is a hero, he was strong and you are too. I feel like you got a lot of your courage by admiring his, don't ever doubt that strength.

I served in Silent Service 91-95. Went out for a search/rescue training dive with 1 of my close shipmates who was a qualified Navy diver. We checked the weather and it was G2G, but at 80ft we felt a swift rocking of the currents. We surfaced and were in the middle of a down burst and waves kicked up to 6-8 ft. We locked arms and buddy kicked against the current trying to push us out. No words were said as we both just knew we were f*ck’d if we gave up. 100m from shore we got pulled apart. He was able to ride a wave in, but he saw me get slammed against a rock that was around 20ft tall once the wave pulled back and showed the size of it. The next wave crashed over me like a ton of bricks , sucked me to the bottom of that rock and he thought I was dead. A 3rd wave lifted me up and I hand walked the rock which allowed the wave to launch me into shore a few hundred meters south of his position. I walked up to him with a smile on my face and he gave me one of the biggest bro hugs. Talked to him recently after 20 years and he said he never took the dives for granted after that day because he thought he lost me. I told him he saved my life up to the rock with his superior strength, training, and mental toughness. His response was: “We were brothers and saved each other to that point, but you saved yourself. I saw you get hammered and vanish in a huge wall of water. I thought I lost you.” I never realized his point of view until 20 years later and how deeply that event impacted and stayed with him.
It's wild to hear the perspective from the past that you never considered, ain't it? I've managed to run across a few of the guys I was with over two decades ago... never thought they'd even remember me, much less have a story about how I impacted them and their path. I was wrong. We have an impact.

My Dad a WWII Veteran, landed on D-Day, just two days after his 18th birthday, and said it was hell on earth. Dad said you could always tell who has actually seen action, I asked him how, and he said, those who have, typically, never talk about it, and those who talk about it, typically, never have. It took Dad decades and Mom's passing, before he would talk about the war. He made a promise to Mom on his return from the war, never to talk about it, and he kept his promise, got married, and got busy raising a large family. It breaks my heart to watch this video.

He spoke to God today. SHE was ashamed. He is using God as a metaphor of his wife. It represents the innocents and purity she never loses. It has nothing to do with gender.

Ivan did something terrible and God was ashamed at him, and when he told the Devil about it, the Devil tells him that was all Ivan's fault. Sort of like, "Don't look at me; you're the one who did this, I had nothing to do with it," to which Ivan replies, "Yeah, I figured as much."
I suffer from PTSD myself from a little dust up from 64-75. My son being KIA in Iraq, 2008 made it alot worse. I'm with you brother, I get it!!!

I live in Statesville NC. There is a lot of homeless veterans. There is 1 guy, his name is Roger. He walks around and talks to himself. We found out that his entire platoon was killed and he was the ONLY one who survived. He said I'm talking to my platoon. They are all right here with me. ♥️
I've given up on eating my dinner because I can't see through tears.
My step dad served in the REME in Bosnia. My grandad was a boy soldier as it were, in Malaysia. They're my heroes.

I am Russian. My grandpa was the 2nd WW veteran. Being small I used to ask him: tell me what was the war like? And, he was saying just this: It was a meat-grinder. Yes, their lifes were grindered, traumatized so much. In Russia they are lucky if there is a supporting family. Otherwise, Veterans of any generation and any war, all of them are on surviving situation. I am so touched with this song. The FFDP is a well known in Russia among veterans specially. Thank you for showing so much respect to all of them and for your words of support and understanding their problems.

When my buddy came back from Iraq in 06 he was a completely different person. I'd watch him light a cigarette and just stare at the flame while he shook... all I could do is keep reminding him he was home and try to be there for him. I could never imagine what our soldiers have been through. So thank you to any veteran reading this for doing what you did and please don't hesitate to reach out for help when you need it.

Thank you for your service and your passion. I am 8 years veteran, got out in 99. All of these people are my brothers and sisters. I would easily take a bullet for anyone that would volunteer to take a bullet for me to enjoy my life. When you said wars are started by evil , greedy people/politicians, you are 0% wrong. Some times we need to attack. (Initial 911) Most times we need to live and let live. (1 year after 911) I do believe we are in places to line pockets more than create peace. Our people die to make people rich. Sickening. Something has to change. Unfortunately, it never will.
