- Welcome to the first episode of Career Insights! We aspire to bring awareness to the various career paths available out there -- some we're familiar with, and perhaps a couple we only ever heard of. We hope that students, fresh graduates and other job seekers can use this series to help them gain some insights and make the best career choice for their lives.
For this episode I have my two ex colleagues, Alex and Anuj, to share with us more about their perspectives on a software engineering career -- an increasingly popular path in the past decade.

That's great feedback! We're looking to upload the next episode in a couple of weeks time, focusing on Design careers in tech! We'll be sure to talk a little bit more about what it's like specifically in Singapore. We may even do a part 2 on Engineering careers specifically related to Singapore.

Hi Olivia, I want to ask some questions and hope you could answer them for me. So currently Im 19 but looking forward to have a job at Singapore as Software Engineer or IT and stuff. Next year I will continue on my Bachelor of Computer-Electronic Engineering. Around 2024, I will finish my internship(6mnths-1year) and degree in Malaysia. So my questions are, what do you think about my job opportunities at Singapore? Let say im an average person with average score. Am I most-likely to be rejected by companies at Singapore as Malaysian(foreigner) or the otherwise or non of these two?
P/S - If you don't mind, please answer the question from the view of the current situation (pandemic) and what you expected what it would be in 2024

The first thing I'd ask is why you're pursuing a career in software engineering what's stopping you from achieving above average scores!
If you truly love software engineering, and are willing to put in the time, I'm sure you will excel. Work on some side projects to explore the areas you're interested in, and explore your "expertise" -- front end, back end, web, mobile, SRE, architecture? Also explore the industry you're interested in -- e-commerce, fintech, education, supply chain?
I hope you get good at what you do and achieve your dreams Haris :)

Well I've been in love with computer and software since I was young, it's like a dream for me to be able having a job in which at the same time I do what love and yes! lately I've been able to clarify to myself on what I would like and what I don't. I can now see the options that I may go with, but I will continue exploring about the others. Thanks again for your words of encouragement! 🥰❤️
