America's Killer Next-Gen Submarine with a Weird-Looking Stern
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 тра 2024
- It’s 2045, and beneath the waves of the American coast, as the waters heat up with conflict reminiscent of 100 years before, a group of Columbia-class submarines, the world's most advanced submarine, move silently but with purpose.
Suddenly, intelligence comes in-a rival nation has launched a surprise assault, and one of the Columbias is the closest asset, already in position, unseen, and ready. With a command, the submarine adjusts its course, utilizing her pièce de résistance, an X-shaped stern for rapid, agile maneuvering through the underwater terrain that would challenge any other vessel.
In moments, they're in position. The captain gives the order, and Columbia’s missile tubes come to life, once held in reserve for a moment everyone hoped would never come.
With America at a crossroads, the skies have the vigilance of strategic bombers. On the ground, an array of land-based missiles stands ready to respond at a moment's notice.
But America’s one true powerhouse guardian lies in the ocean's depths. - Наука та технологія
$132 Million for new Subs? You made a mistake here pal. This each sub will cost 2+ Billion $.
You beat me to it. It s definitely 132 billion. 132 million wouldn’t even pay for the on board toilets.
$132m for the toilet seats, maybe
I just watched and caught that slip too, the time of million dollar boomer subs was gone a long time ago. 2 billion per Ohio class's from the late 1990's
Yep.
This guy makes tons of easily researched mistakes.
Anyone else at first think he was calling the new stern an “EGG shape” and not an X shape?
Gotta be Canadian
The X design was "pioneer" by the Swedish Navy only if you ignore the very successful experimental USS Albacore which was refitted with X stern planes in 1962. By all accounts the X configuration proved very effective, but was seen by many as to "radical". She can be seen, still in the X configuration, at the USS Albacore Museum in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
they show and discuss the albacore in this video, right after the part you are mentioning
He covered that @2:12, but you still get an A for effort
Was that the one where nothing in the US navy could detect it?
@@bBersZ At 2.12 he describes the work done by the Swedish Kockums shipyard which occurred much later than the operation of the Albacore. I searched the transcript but nowhere can I find any mention of the US Navy (and DARPA) operation and testing of the Albacore.
The US Navy has "leased" Swedish Gotland class submarines for evaluation and testing. For more information than you probably want to know on the subject, you might start with "Submarine Hydrodynamics" 2nd Edition by Martin Renilson and the various DARA papers.
I had the privilege of going aboard a brand new Los Angeles class submarine many years ago while in Hawaii. My friend was an XO on a boomer and he asked me if I wanted to see a new sub. Well you can count me in. I went to the Pearl Harbor Naval Station and SubPac. And walked what seemed like kilometers of slipways with Submarines tied up everywhere. We walked up to the boat and he shouted some Navy jargon and a submariner came up out of this large hatch. There was an armed guard standing at the ramp and at the hatch opening holding M-16’s and looking pretty serious until my friend made himself known and the deck officer was greatly pleased to show off his brand new boat. I stepped onto the rubberized surface and climbed down into the belly of that beast. It took us to a holding area or chamber where many hallways and other hatches were to go left, right and further down into the boat. We turned left towards the stern and the forward torpedo room. Lots of weapons in there. Many cruise missiles. I asked if they were Nuclear tipped. They could neither confirm nor deny that information and the guard said if they told me they would have to shoot me. I had the time of my life looking all over the place asking questions that they answered quite frankly but extremely reserved. I knew I was only getting spoon fed what they could for a civilian. Then we went into the control room where everything happens. The Periscope, the Radar and Sonar stations. The weapons fire control station, the drivers seats and a freaking ton of electronics. To get their dolphins they have to understand every system on board. So the officer on duty was a young feller about 19 yrs old explaining to me how the targeting systems work and he flipped all the leather covers off the screens for Radar and it showed the Hawaiian Islands in their full glory. Each island was clear as a bell using satellite data and the onboard Radar. Impressive. Then I got to see the life support equipment, galley, sleeping quarters and everything but the Reactor and engine room. Which I of course asked to see and they thought that was funny. As we were leaving the boat I mentioned that everything I saw was of exceptional quality despite the confined quarters, it was a very livable environment. And as we passed some especially beautiful manufacturing my friend reminded me and as his Admiral told him to understand that the sub was built Low Bid. Ah dang. Still, America builds tough and safe military equipment. I also noted that as a person who is 6’6” tall, that boat wasn’t built for me. Thanks for listening. A day I will never forget. Hermit.
Thanks for sharing.

That would go down as the best freakin day ever. 2nd best wouldn't even come close. Wow...😳🤯
Sounds like a submarine. 😂 I went into a sub as a child in the 70s.
@@user-xt6bd4qm5g Yeah sounds like a pretty childish thing to do or even remember because it was such a silly thing. Standing aboard a Two Billion dollar+ Nuclear Powered Los Angeles Fast Attack Sub. Surrounded by countless other subs at SubPac in Hawaii, being personally escorted by a commander of a boomer, or Nuclear Ballistic Missile submarine that has the power of great destruction and death for millions of people. I enjoyed my day spending it with the most secret and powerful submarines in the world and the men that serve and protect our Country, This I do not take lightly.
1:10 My grandfather retired from there as Chief of Nuclear Design”
I’m so proud of him. And miss him all the time.
They are called the handmaidens of the apocalypse for good reason
Hmmm, good thought😮
Finally I can stop scrolling through notifications for a video
That's not how the Thrasher went down. That's still classified.
This tail section reminded me of the fictional "Seaview" submarine. ;-)
Now all we need is a flying sub. ;-D
Now there's a blast from the past. Thanks.
Fictional? I'll have you know i watched that show every week and knew it was real! And the flying sub was secretly powered by dilithium crystals
This is why US lended the Swedish submarine Gotland.
Not really. They probably wanted to get an acoustic signature of other countries AIP submarines.
More like the Swedes were the only ones dumb enough to rent their own submarines to a potential enemy (the US).
thanks for the vid nice info as always
Slight quibble. "SSBN" means "Submersible" "Ship" "Ballistic" ( meaning it carries ballistic missiles) "Nuclear" (indicating it is nuclear powered).
Ya know, I was just thinking about buying a boat, and a nuclear submarine seems to check all the boxes.
I like the added A.I. effects
The USN has been working with the Australian Desks for decades .... And shared Submarine development= smart engineering lessons
Note the latest AUKUS treaty
As a 15 yr Collins class vet ..... X is the way to go
German type 212A has an X stern as well I think!!
You are correct ! So will the 212CD the next in line!
Love you video plz make a video on belgorod Submarine
20 knots/800ft... LOL - more like 2x those numbers :D
At least.
132 million for the budget you're out of your F in mind
The launch of a missile instantly reveals the subs position under intensive wartime conditions. That limitation makes it a one shot weapon.
The oceans are big,and no they wont be instantly revealed
That's assuming there's an enemy vessel or aircraft very close to it. It takes a lot to track a sub, every minute you don't have eyes on it the search area expands exponentially from the last location you saw it.
And I would imagine the enemy nation would have bigger things to worry if there were nukes in the air.
@@mastermariner490 I was going to say the same thing. LOL! Especially the Pacific!
True, but by the time that the enemy can respond, they're already gone. Plus, the enemy is gonna be busy with a bunch of nuke warheads coming in...
OMFG that guy with the eye patch at the start 😂 Didnt know Snake Plisken was USN.
Australia has a new 3D printer that is unlimited in expansion, E.I. make a solid piece of metal as big as you want. you could make the whole boat in one pass.
Holy crap 20,000 tons, that’s a big boat😮
Also excellent for stability at high propeller speed. (Prevents the sub from rolling on side as the propeller is turning the sub slightly at high speed)
Screw, not propeller.
If that's $132 million, I'll order one to play in my pool in the garden 😂
When the price tag was mentioned, did you mean to say $132 BILLION ? Each sub is at least 1 billion...
In Ohio class submarine cost about 3.5 billion. So I figure that the unit production cost of a Columbia class will be roughly double that.
The United States desperately needs more shipyards and far more people who can weld properly. Our ships are too expensive and take too long to build. This is especially true for submarines
Thank you for all you do your like the history channel on steroids
I wonder if it will also have the MIT Toroidal propeller
Screw, not propeller.
whats with the underside of the subs bow at time 1:16 ?
"celestial aided"
🤔
I'm picturing a super-sleek, frighteningly fast, ultra modern cruise missile, but with an antique brass astrolabe hotglued to its nose!
The GPS system was created so US ballistic missile submarines properly hit targets in the Soviet Union.
Get that boat in the water. The Norks deserve our best.
Nuclear Submarines can’t stay on bottom, can’t cool down Reactors.
These are essentially the same subs as the uk dreadnought subs as they were joint developed together in the same project split 50/50
8 years active duty navy on two different ships. For those skeptical about the eye patch thing I remember certain watch standers wearing eye patches to preserve night vision. Maybe they don’t do it anymore but they did when I was in
They should hide the prop like a jet ski. Less area for sonar to find. But this new sub might be like that.
I was listening to this in the background and was thinking "An Egg-shaped stern?" it was not until I scrolled back and looked, I realized that they had meant an "X" shaped stern. LOL
I thought it was just me.
All US Navy submariners and nuclear power plant operators know that locked stern planes were not the cause of Threasher's demise.
"propulsion, propulsion, propulsion!"
My son is an officer on an Ohio class boat. I'll not ask him for details, but if he knows why. I'm sure he'll do his long pause thing before saying anything after I ask him "interesting" questions. LOL!
The price is definitely wrong.😂
I’m always surprised that the length of the boat is almost more than its operating depth. I realize the two don’t have anything to do with each other but it always just seemed really weird to me.
"Stated" operating depth.
This is the sub class they are letting you know about. Have you ever heard of Vespera Class?
I note you mention missiles not dependent on GPS - timely when russia is using GPS jammers near the Baltics.
Submarine launched ballistic missiles have already been independent of GPS and using celestial navigation for decades, at least the French ones are.
Since this is a US/UK partnership, is the Royal Navy going to get some of these also?
they now have missiles launched from subs that have 12 separate rockets in each warhead , each rocket can track and take down any ICBM within 2800 miles of the subs location traveling at hyper-sonic speeds. 30 of them parked off an enemies coastline or northern most point in 2 subs can take down 89% of over 300 ICBM's launched simultaneously .
03:49 I thought the report that came back on the thresher "insufficient quality and testing on the braze welding" ?
I wonder what H. I. Sutton would say??
I wonder how dramatically revolutionary it would be if submarines could be propelled by projecting a negative ionic deficit/void in the direction they wish to travel, which would simply pull them forward in any direction they choose, the way UFOs move.
Regardless if it can't be seen or herd can still be smelled. It's leaving a smell trail sorta like a snail trail.
Just 16 tubes fir trident ?
You should've mentioned how theirs talk of building some guided missile variants of the Columbia like they did with the Ohio conversions and even an attack boat based on a shortened hull form
SSNX is going to pretty much be that
And it's only 36 months behind schedule.
Price of freedom baby
best submarine is that which is shaped like a torpedo
You're wrong on the reason you give for Thresher's loss.
I heard early on the voice said in the year 2025. I'm not sure but I think the first Columbia will still be in the yards being built.
The budget is not $132 million. It costs $9.15 Billion for each sub. A total of $109.8 billion for 12 subs.
So, it's "X " shaped stern is new and revolutionary of today , but it was tried in the 1950's
Some people must think that it was the stone age before the year two thousand
One word,deceiving…
Images do not match the narrative. Plus some of them are not even real images of the situation being described. Shame, shame, shame. Plus the hyper dramatic delivery of the narrater is laughable.
This is part of the "Dark" series. Same guy, same voice, same type format. I like it (the series) but not everybody does.
No "mysterious " in the title. Whats going on?😢😢😢
i was on subs in navy in the late 70's 20knots is what they tell the news, but in reality they can go more like 80 knots and depending on its type, some can go 120knots and dive to the depth of 1/2 to just over a mile down 1 knot is 1.5mph, you do the math.
What navy and in which movie?! 😅😅😅
Looks like a metal dophin
At 7:29, "most complex submarine ever procured by the service, with a planned budget of $132 million..." Proof reading will prevent such monumental errors.
Yeah. I suspect the decimal point slipped. My guess would be more like $13.2 BILLION.
07:27 sounds like you said " A planned budget of $132 Million Dollars" 😂 I think you mean $132 Billion. Respectfully!
It's awesome that US submarines have such advantages against any potential threats, until some a$$hat sells any information of the subs capabilities to the highest bidder.
I am amazed that none of these channels ever manage to proof read or correct their narration. Who could confuse "cruise depth" (which is not a term used) with "crush depth," which is what happened to Thresher?
And the U.S Navy doesn’t have any one eyed submariner’s. I saw a least 2 gentlemen wearing eye patches! Lol
thank you . ( 2024 / May / 17 )
An X is cruciform.
According to this video, the majority of US sailors have one eye. Kinda limits your depth perception when using a periscope, eh?
The patch isn't because they're missing an eye. That's not why pirates used patches either.
Night vision!!
I think we need to be more worried r drones than building something that much $
So Colombia will be bigger than the Ohio class but are they larger than the old Soviet-era Typhoon class which if I remember correctly is the largest ballistic missile subs ever made.
No, but it doesn't need to be. Also, there is only one Typhoon left that is basically rusting apart as it sits tied up to a dock, awaiting some help, which it will never get. Just because it was bigger, didn't make the Typhoon better. Scary, yes, but ultimately a failure. Also, did you know that the Typhoon had its own pool inside the sub? LOL! No really! Not a lap pool, but more like a large soaking tub. Crazy idea for sure. But the US Ohio class subs have gyms in them for people to workout in. No free weights, all machines, rather small space with three machines.
My son is an officer on an Ohio class boat and he said the gym is rather terrible and that very few people on his crew use it on the boat. He never had time to go to the gym between all his jobs, paperwork, learning, the need to eat and get as much sleep as he could.
Mic disinfectant: ENGAGE!
Twenty knots?! Only twenty knots? They do thirty knots today!
No one releases proper speed and crushed depth numbers for submarines. However, boomers tend to be slower than Hunters
The purpose of a boomer isn't speed. It goes to a point in the ocean, and awaits the launch command, that they hope never comes. You don't need speed for that - only stealth...
He made errors. Both with the speed and cost of the Columbia class submarines, is 132 Billion USD, or 11 Billion per copy.
OK, the one thing I’m curious about is we spent $2 billion to develop and build a B2 bomber and we only spent $132 million to build a nuclear submarine that’s going to carry more weapons and get closer to the enemy does anyone else think that maybe there’s a problem.
Just try and keep them out of Canadian arctic
Stop with the dramatic delivery, already!!!!! This is unlistenable.
The “X” is trademarked by Elon and they better be paying him
Convert all the Ohios to SSGN Spec Op boats, and limit their test depth to maximize hull life.
The Thresher didn't sink because of a stern planes jam. There is clear evidence of a water leak leading to the reactor shutting down, losing propulsion and jammed emergency blow valves. That mistake blows your credibility on your other statements.
Always nice to see brand new definitely secret tech and upcoming equiptment on youtube... because thats for sure how it works. Heres our super secret shit.. come make a youtube short on it😂😂😂
X-tail's are new to american boats, but have already been used on many other nations submarines
Same thing for the non mechanical electric drive, the reactor producing electricity sent to an electric motor for propulsion, that is what the French have been doing for the past 40 years or more.
Not being able to see out of one eye physically disqualifies you from US Naval service so nobody on a US submarine is running around with an eye patch. Also, today's periscopes are much different than the one in your video that the guy with the eye patch is using.
This is fake, the US Yards are way behind in building the subs that are used. They told Australia that the promise we made is longer valid on building their subs because the US are so far behind!
A copper Submarine.
Did I hear 1st sub by 4th Qtr 2030 ? Hell WW3 would be over and we know about WW4
Sunfish
COLUMBIA subs?!? Built by/for the DRUG CARTELS? 🤣😉
LMFAO Good one. 👍
Egg shaped you say
what happened mate? Did you get flase teeth or something? Your pronunciation of words has changed. some words you seem to not pronounce as well as you used to. Great videos on your channels.
$132 million?…bs - Australia is buying ~6, at a lifetime cost of ~$300 billion. 132 mil wouldn’t even buy the loo
How is it your not silenced...this Nation forgot .....loose lips sinks ships
Very dramatic but you fail on so many facts, a lot more research required.....
My bad I mean metal whale

2045 and there's still a Littoral Combat ship???? You crazy.
It is nothing but just a shape
This was why the titan happened, it was research for this, n bc thats what happen when u throw billionaire money at dumb pretentious shit
