Code 3 Force 4 LP6000 Fully Loaded All Light Lightbar with Stingrays

  • This is an all-light Code 3 Force 4 LP6000 lightbar that I put together myself, using entirely original and correct Code 3 components. This lightbar features 2 standard rotators, 3 fast rotators, 2 Stingray multifunction rotators, flashing takedowns with steady override, and dual alley lights. This is as loaded as one of these lightbars can get, with the exception of rear work lights, but I think they just didn’t fit the feel of this bar. NFS/JFS

    At least with the rotators the officers knew when they left their lights on.

      In my experience, you knew when they started slowing down or stopped rotating, and now the battery was too flat to start the vehicle. Yes we left the car running, but for some reason they were prone to,stalling.

    I remember the police department in my town used these light bars in the early to mid ‘80s. I noticed that the stingrays would sometimes stop oscillating but when they did work you could hear them operating while standing outside the unit. They were also loud inside.

    I worked for Code3 back in the mid-late 70's. Brought back good memories of that light bar. Still remember the day the first injection mold was delivered to the shop for inspection.
    Seeing the assembly area with active light bars was mesmerizing.
    I always considered the Code3 the best around. Whenever I see a cruiser, the first thing I do is check out the lights.

    My first full-size light bar when I was a Volunteer Firefighter was a Street Hawk. It was back in '85, and I absolutely loved this thing. It put out so much blinding light. Going to a call one night I got behind a Sheriff Going to the same call. When we arrived, he told me that he almost had to pull over because it was so bright.

    The best rotator light bar made. Nowadays, everything is LED, yes LED is ridiculously bright, and the computer can make them even mimic a rotator. But the is something to be said about old school light bars. The only big issue was NEVER turn off your car on scene unless you had 2 aux batteries, or your main battery would drain in about 20 minutes!

    Led lights are great. Long lasting, bright, efficient. But the lack the charm that old rotating lights do, even the squeal of old halogen bulbs.

    I'm simply awe struck by your light bar here.
    We had the stripped down version of this and the Street Hawk.
    I remember I wanted some white flash to the front so I wired my wig wag unit to the take downs. It was ok, but not enough to get ones attention.
    Amazing work you did here

      Were they H1 bulbs at 55w or a variety like Whelen halogens with a lower wattage?
      I count a maximum of 4 alley lights, 2 take downs, 7 rotators at 55w each(?) So that's 13 lamps all illuminated makes possible power draw of 715watts, at 12v that's just short of 60 amps excluding motors and stingray electronics...
      Never mind the noise, the heat generated must only have been dissipated by the wind resistance/drag on high speed calls

      LED bulbs actually do not work in bulb/reflector rotators, as LED replacement bulbs don’t focus light in a way that totally fills the reflector, so the light doesn’t appear to “flash” the same way it would with a conventional filament bulb.

    • @doranbaltus
      @doranbaltus  7 місяців тому +2

      Yes. You control which color goes where. In this case, you have different sides of the rotators showing different colors, while the clear for the takedowns and alley lights aren’t obstructed. Having colored domes with this color combination would be impractical to the point of absurd.

    great work to industrial accuracy and specs. there are so many different modes, what do they mean when police officers use them in USA? for example what is purpose of left-right slow or fast sweeping Stingray and when is used middle (single) light usually os only white? i saw so many different modes at same police car light bars used same like this one and yours is great example to learn from it...👌👍

    • @doranbaltus
      @doranbaltus  6 місяців тому +1

      It all depends on what services the vehicle is performing. For example: if the vehicle is parked at the side of the road and only needs to be visible from behind, it may only need to use the rear-sweeping warning function. If that vehicle is parked in the middle of an intersection or on scene of an emergency, it may require a mid-tier level of 360 degree warning including just the colored rotators. If that vehicle is responding urgently to an emergency, then it would be best to use the full warning power of the lightbar, which includes fast front-sweeping and white flashing lights, which make the vehicle more visible to oncoming traffic.

      @@doranbaltus👍 thank you bro, for concise explanation; - our emergency services in my area do not have such variety of option, but then again different traffic regulations than in US and/or Canada, so I guess you had to learn well all of the meaning behind them during your driving course... • @doranbaltus
      @doranbaltus  6 місяців тому +1

      They're legal for anyone to own. The legality of putting them on your vehicle varies by municipality.

  • @joed9491
    @joed9491 4 місяці тому

    Never could figure out why the inner rotators are at a fast speed than the outers. Federal Signals was the same way with their Streethawks. I would much rather the faster rotators be on the outside and actually reversed them on my Streethawk to be more effective when clearing an intersection since I want more lighting.

    • @doranbaltus
      @doranbaltus  4 місяці тому +1

      Slower rotators have a better "dwell time," which enables the human eye to more effectively track the vehicle, without the eye becoming overwhelmed. The outer standard rotators effectively establish the dimensions of the vehicle from all angles, while the inner rotators don't have that responsibility, and can be faster in order to create a more urgent front/rear facing warning signal. When used together, you get both a good steady signal that's easy to track with they eye, and a good front/rear fast signal that conveys urgency. If you really want good intersection lighting, you're not going to get it on a lightbar unless it's mounted on your front bumper. With that being said, you could get StreetHawk intersection lights (DynaRays), or do the easier thing and put strobes in your outer front turn signals.
