For anyone wondering why they did a cut at 00:34 i can tell you it is because this process is NOT NEARLY as easy as they showed. I have ordered a replacement screen and even if i heat it up to 140 with my temperature controlled heatgun, that backside is stuck on and not moving at all. Just a heads up, that taking off the back glass is misleadingly easy if you would believe this video. Also, the suction cup has a hard time staying attached, as the phone has a glass finish.
@@trevistang8857 I ended up buying a stronger suction cup, and using a LOT more heat than what they recommend. Still managed to break the rear glass panel when removing. Was going just fine until i got the the part in the top, where the glass is very thin because of the camera. So i ended up doing the screen replacement, and then buying a new back glass piece. Honestly i dont really think the operation was worth it. I was reluctant already when i bought the phone, because of the bent glass down the sides, the only reason i bought this instead of the Oneplus 8 was the wireless charging. Replaced this phone with a Oneplus 9 that has a flat screen and wireless charging and i am NEVER going to have one with a screen with curved edges again ever. The reason this is important is that when i held the phone i was constantly touching the screen in the sides and the rubber cover that i had on the phone was unable to cover the screen, in case it is dropped. The oneplus 9 i have now has a rubber edge all the way round so it does not easily drop on the edge of the screen and crack. The whole curved display idea should be put in the trash with 3D screens and curved tv's as it does not really add any value to the phone....Rather the opposite.
@@JohnDoe-bd5sz You should probably invest in a repair kit, and take time when repairing, don't rush it. Also invest in quality phone cases and screen protectors. And next time, try to lick the suction cup to keep it in place. I'm a sucker for keeping my devices and slightest modding their aesthetic, but I collect various amounts of phone accessories, cases and screen protectors. If you need recommendations on phone cases and such, let me know.
Thanks for the instructions. It worked great so far. It was harder than it looked like to get the glued parts apart. I had to use more glue to get it together again. Removing the leftover glue is a real pita.
It's doable, but wouldn't make a lot of sense. You'd end up killing the camera bezel around the screen. You can however detach the back glass and pop off the camera glass area (not the glass piece itself), but it takes a bit of force and with a risk of slippery hand may break the back glass in the process, (and finding Authentic back glass for the 8 pro and not the generic crap.. you might as well buy a donor device and replace it with that. I'd suggest getting a donor device to part out, because once you go around replacing chassis type parts on newer devices like this, especially ones with an IP Ingress rating, you'll risk reducing it's protection from the elements it was manufactured to prevent in the first place. I collect numerous phone cases and accessories to keep the longevity of my devices that I own, and I've only ever come across 1 Screen protector kit that actually includes AS STATED a Tempered Glass Protector for the Camera bump. The kit includes 3 thick Silicone stype screen protectors (holding off on sending my White Stone back for a replacement as of yet) and 3 Tempered glass protectors for the camera bump, thank God for that. Apologies for the Year late reply, and it being a long one at that.
Hi Thank you for the video I have a question Does replacing the screen fix my phones color? It's gotten green after the screen got broken and it got wet
It depends on your case. You may have to see a professional to fix something like water damage. But usually the phone is water proof even with small cracks. Mine for example had a half green screen without coming in contact with water.
Not sure but I've heard from a friend who does cell repairs and was told that these 3rd party repair places use knock off lcd screens and not the original amoled screens he said only time you might get the original amoled screen is if they have one on hand from another broke phone once I heard that I figured that I would just go through oneplus to fix my phone anyone know anything about these 3rd party repair places??
That's not completely true, in the 3rd party repairs you'll find both knock off screens and even orginal screens, which is why you'll have to choose someone who has a decent goodwill and gives you warranty as well, basically all these screens are made in Chinese factories(even the original ones) and they purchase it from the factories itself too.
The website they have is fake screens plus even if it might not be OnePlus always has true ones and it's cheaper to mail it to them and let them fix it
Hello. Thank you for the video. My oneplus 8 pro display war broken but all functions worked. I ordered a new display but after change, the fingerprint sensor doesn't work. It scans my fingerprint but when I want to login, it doesn't recognized. What I did wrong? Best regards
There is a way to replace only the glass but it's just much more complicated and tricky to do so most of the technicians can't do it, only few very skilled ones can.

Hello do you still get high refresh rate after the replacement with original AMOLED ?
Love from India😘
Do you really need to remove the mainboard and cameras in order to access the screen connector? I don't see why you removed it. Thanks for the vid!
I think it's because he didn't want to heat them.
Have to make it hot to open the screen
You need to remove back glass, remove top cover. Unplug battery. Remove bottom cover and charging port. Remove screen.
No need to remove mainboard, camera & battery. You need to heat just the outer side to soften the glue.

Hello!
I'm guessing that this wasn't just a glass change. You changed the whole digitizer, right?
Just glass or LCD digitizer?
Thanks!!!
No sir, that was a whole Screen display replacement.

How do you ensure you retain the waterproof rating?
apply the glue more carefully i guess

Is it possible to change the glass only not the oled screen?
nop, you will destroy the OLED itself
I've heard it's possible but very unlikely, picking a little tiny piece of glass off could damage the digitizer
