Im a computer science major and a electronic tech and on these type of phone builds ive never seen one where you dont..if you dont remove the mother board would you rip off the flex cable connector and possibly snap the pin or warp or crack the main board?
its safer to remove it in case the cable snags but you cant remove the screen with at least getting down to the main board and disconnecting the flex cable connector
