Thank you Doctor Rogers for explaining about Phabeni's condition. He has many obstacles to overcome but is in the best possible hands. His feisty nature may be a bonus in his recovery. So pleased Dear Stavros is with him. Thanks Stavros for telling us more about Phabeni and for your expert care and your Love. Lammie is the perfect companion, having had years of befriending and caring for baby Elephants. I'm sure Phabeni will come to love her. Sending Love and Thanks to you all and Loving, Healing vibrations to this little guy. 🩵🐘🩵🙏

Appreciate your message, but there is no such thing as a "healing vibration". It's nebulous nonsense. I'm sure however, that a practical, tangible donation to the sanctuary would go a long way!

Thank you Herd for once again proving your compassion and love for these amazing animals. To Lammie, I want to give you whatever you ever want for your patience. You are a love. To Phabeni, you are a strong little calf. It might not seem that way right now, but when it's okay you'll have a few tons of aunties, uncles, big brothers, sisters, an allomother, and one just as determined albino calf to look forward to. And blessings to Lammie for her patience with another new calf; although he is quite boisterous and a challenge for poor Lammie, but she knows her part too.
Can everyone see how quickly little Phabeni took to the fake nipple and so smart, he is trying to hold the bottle. Once his trunk becomes strong, Phabeni will be holding his own bottles like Khanysia 👍 ❤️

I agree. One of the many reasons (and there are a lot!) I love and follow HERD is their openness and honesty. The superb Doctor Rogers was very frank about pneumonia being this little guy's greatest danger and that he would not survive that. None of us wants to even contemplate that but I feel we need to be aware. Baby Elephants can be taken so quickly - I think we all know of at least one Baby who has passed without warning and it's utterly devastating. I'm not being negative but just cautiously optimistic 🙂🤞 In his favour, our new boy is feisty, has the BEST people around him, totally dedicated to not only his survival, but to him eventually joining what we know is a wonderful new family and a great future. Right now his BP and temperature need stabilising but also he's lost his entire family and must have been terrified out there on his own. All this is new and confusing for him. As Adine said, right now it's a day at a time. Just like Khanyisa did, he will hear the Jabulani Herd and their rumbles so that will bring him comfort. Praying for you Sweet Phabeni. You are already in our hearts and those of the exceptional Team at HERD. 🩵🐘🩵🙏

How good that Phabeni found his way to you… traumatised as he is, fighting for his life (milk i.e.) and defending himself in his feisty way, as you say… maybe the baby elephants are looking for some 'dark canopy' above them when they are having their milk bottles, like the belly of their mother above their head when they are suckling? Good luck Phabeni, the herd, waiting for him, and the caring staff at HERD

At first I thought your coats & hats said “HERO”. You ARE all heroes in my eyes!!!! ❤ This is the safest, warmest, most comforting place he’s been in a long while, perhaps in his whole young life! God bless the woman who found him and would not let him be killed. And God bless this Elephant Orphanage❣️

It's not surprising this little baby manage to survive when he lost his mother and the herd. He is such a fighter for life. I am sure he will soon settle and have all the carers 'wrapped around his little trunk!' Just like our beautiful Khanyesia.

Watching Beni feed has made me realize just how hard it was for Khanyisa to feed with the injuries around her mouth. Im so glad Beni doesn't have that problem. I pray he doesn't develop pneumonia.
Sweet Lammie doesn't sound like any sheep I've ever heard!! Such a strange sound.😂

When you see how the elephants in the herd are constantly touching one another, it’s painful to think of this baby being alone with no strokes or caresses from his mother. Looks like he’s really appreciating the gentle contact from the carers ❤❤

Actually this lil guy would have been better off with his real mama and his real elephant family in the wild. Family is everything for a baby elephant and being h a matriarch is the highest, most important position in the ellie world is the highest calling. But second best is probably this human family to care for him.

I'm re-watching this on the occasion of what would've been Phabeni's first birthday had the wee bull made it, Seeing Stavros and hearing Joshua's words of Phabeni's introduction to HERD is so precious. Seeing Phabeni's chasing of Lammie was easier to take as I could picture the future times that Lammie, Spotty and Baby Beni ran together in the garden! Such precious memories. I cried at Joshua's prophetic words "I hope he's going to make it". The joy in Stavros', Joshua's, Tigere's eyes as they watched their new baby's antics (long before Phabeni become Setombe's baby), was priceless. Bless you all for tending to this precious soul so profoundly and with such love. You enriched his life and ours by your kind, paternal stewardship, you enriched our lives by letting us witness it, and you enriched Setombe's life by the drawing forth of her maternal love of Phabeni.

Phabeni probably feels the need to be feisty. There's no telling how long he's been away from his Mama and his Herd. He feels the need to protect himself. I would also if I were him. Soon he will understand the Love of the carers and also you Adine. And then he will calm down a bit. He is a little boy so who knows. He might always be this way. Nothing wrong with that. Love to Phabeni, the carers, and to you Adine for always being there for our sweet orphans. God will bless you all for your kindness. Love Always Jeanne Jones from North Carolina 🐘❤️❤️❤️❤️
