    Got this link from the Sursound mailing list. Thanks so much for sharing your workflow! Will be shooting a narrative 360°/VR project very soon and really needed something this specific for how to mix for ambisonic, then converted for headphones. You rock!!!

    FB360 controler "get from video" isn't working for me so far. there seems to be a problem with the osc communication (I've tried alot...turned everything off - firewall. deinstalled vpn software. ports checked. but no luck so far). And you saved me with your SPOOKFM plugin. May it live long on! Great plugin. Big THANK YOU!

    Thanks for this video, very instructive, and nice to see how you use the ATK plugs.When creating the "crickets" ambience layer, you might also want to experiment with using the SuperStereo encoder. Whereas the regular stereo encoder encodes the left and right channels as two planar waves, the SuperStereo plugin creates a much more continuous sound field. Sound will still mostly come from the front though, so it might be worthwhile to use two layers rotated 180 degrees apart, or eventually 3 layers rotated 120 degrees apart.

    Hello Hank, a humble suggestion. At the end of the tutorial you do not show how we should proceed with the files file 1 and file 2. Should we take these files to the Adobe Premiere timeline, to make a new Export added to the video? Thank you

    A question - why do you choose six channels? Also, have you tried using TBE:s Spatial Workstation? I presume the work process in Reaper would be similar, only it would be able to output a TBE-specific file format for the TBE Unity SDK?

      +Henk I Spook Hi Henk, I know that 4 channels per track are used for the ambisonics setup, which is why I got a bit thrown off when you were setting up the channels and channel folders and I thought you also said you were using 6 channels at one point - I think I just misheard you.
      So basically, we could use your Reaper setup here instead of the TBE Spatial Workstation, following the workflow you describe above? Is there anything you think the Spatial Workstation does better than the ATK plugins you're using in the video?
      I do have the Spatial Workstation, so I'm planning on using it, but it's always useful to know about alternative routes.
      Btw, I saw that all the TBE tools were all updated today.

    thanks for the amazing tutorial. It definitely is a lot of help.
    One question tho, I'm sorry if someone has already asked about this, how would you recommend getting a music track in the mix, or a narrator track (a stereo file that we do not want being spatial/reactive to our movement in the space)

    Thanks so much for the video and the plugin! I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how the export files would work in the new 360 youtube video player after the fact? Does your export contain meta data? Otherwise how does it know that you've moved the camera? I've used Unreal or Unity for spatial audio but that creates a program which realtime interprets HMD tracking data. PS Unreal game engine uses Oculus Audio SDK and it is killer sounding.

    Congratulations for your help to ambisonics & video edition. I'm really sorry to ask you by this channel, but I need to understand. I installed Reaper V5.92/64 (last version), GoPro Player 3.0.5 (last version) and SpookSyncVR 0.7 (last version). I followed your instructions carefully and it works for "pitch" but I can not make it work for "yaw" (believe me, I followed exactly your instructions). Do you know what could happen? Why it works perfectly for pitch but not for yaw? (sorry to ask you)

    great video! question, were all the sounds you used for the video recorded at the same time as the video or did you have to do some foley work? If it was recorded at the same place, how many mics were used?

      great, currently using an m-audio soundcard with two outputs, do I need another soundcard like say, one for 5.1 surround, to do this and if so, what would you recommend?

    Hi Henk,
    I am having trouble during the export process. I see signal coming in on the meters of the W+X and Y+Z tracks, but I am not sure what the next step is. I have tried printing the tracks by arming and hitting record, but no audio is captured. I am new to Reaper. Any tips?

    Master, SpookSyncVR 0.7 for mac still works right, whereas Kolor Eyes now is GoPro VR Player 2.3.1? Thank you!

    Maybe Spook made for Kolor Eyes 1.6 doesn't work with the new player GoPro VR Player. The problem is no longer possible to download Kolor Eyes 1.6.

      The GoPro player has the same settings as Kolor Eyes :) you just need to mess with the menu for until you find it

    Hi Henk, thanks a lot for this video. It's been very, very helpful... BUT... Do you know how I can get my ambisonic sound into a 360 video file (in my case a video file that is supported by UA-cam at this moment), because I'm having a real hard time doing that? Thanks in advance!

    the best video out there to start with ambisonics and reaper for 360! I have one reaper issue: I cant get the Milk VR export to render multichannel. it always ends up being just 2 channels whatever i dial into the plugin as well as in the channel routing.. any advice on that? not sure if it is a bug or if i am doing something obviously wrong while rendering.

    Fantastic Tutorial man seriously. I have followed along perfectly. The one technical issue that I am having is that it seems like when I an done, everything rotates a bit in the sound space, but when I did my first BG FL stereo placement (with A stereo file) and soloed the track, I did not get the hard left pan that you did. I could rotate the tumble and hear a placement difference, but again, not nearly as pronounced as your. Any ideas? And again, thanks for an amazing tutorial!

    Amazing tutorial!! Thank you so much. I am putting everything that you taught into practice and it is working. The only difference is that I am using a windows 7 workstation instead of a mac. I just have a quick question: I am not 100 percent sure if I am hearing full spatial audio through my headphones while I sound edit in Reaper. I kind of feel like I am, but it is hard to be 100% certain. Is there a preference setting in Reaper that I should click in order to make sure that my headphones are giving me spatial audio? Currently, I have the device preferences set to the following... Audio System: Direct Sound, Output Device: Speakers (Razer Surround Audio Controller), Sample format: 24 bit, Input and output channels: 2, sample rate: 48khz Once again, thanks for a really well put together video tutorial.

    What about "1st Order Ambisonics (4 channels) audio" captured with the Zoom H2N microphone? How would you program the HRTFs to that 4-channel audio file?
    The Zoom H2N captures 4 channels:
    Channel 0: Omnidirectional sphere
    Channel 1: Left-Right dipole
    Channel 2: Up-Down dipole (The H2n cannot generate this signal, so it records silence on this channel.)
    Channel 3: Front-Back dipole
    Hoping you can shed some light on that! :)

    Hi henk, first of all, thanks a lot for this video! Im having problems to sync kolor eyes with reaper. Reaper can't learn pitch and yaw. I followed all the instructions and it works in one of my computer, but in the other (the one I use to work and where I need it working) its not happening. The only one difference I found is this error message in the max console of the spooksyncVR: "hashtab: unable to resolve host localhost." and I have no idea how to fix it. can you help me? thanks a lot again!

    Great tutorial. I've got the latest version of the GoPro VR Player 2.0.2 and the latest SpookSyncVR v0.6.
    The problem I've got is that I can't "Learn" the pitch and the yaw movement. The portnumbers have both a green dot. Do you know what I can do about it? Thanks.

      You can only leave one "on" for each learn. "yaw" ON to learn, then turn it off, turn "pitch" on, learn it.... etc...

      Hi Albert, did you have any joy figuring out the "learn" movements. I'm having the same issue and struggling to get them to link. I too only have an evaluation license. Also the green dots in SpookSync are flashing very quickly and not static. I'm not very familiar with Reaper so I'm probably missing something obvious. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm using OS 10.9.5, Reaper 5.28 64bit, VR Player 2.0.2, SpookSync 0.6. Ta

    Thank you master for the great tutorial! I used a one-shot camera (Ticoh Theta S) to record the video360. In the ATK Decode Binural plugin should I select Spherical 0 - Smallest Head or Spherical 6 as you selected? I'm referring to the Listenback decoder channel. Thank you!

    I Have on Mac OsX 10.12.1 And I do not manage to make the synchronization between SpoockSyncVr and GoProVrPlayer on Reaper .And I have any try.Have you adea?
    So is this solution possible for tools Ableton or ProTools?
    Finally that is we created an ambisonic's atmosphere " OBJECT SOUND " for VR 360° video

    How do I embed the first order 4ch audio in the video for UA-cam??
    I usually use Sony Vegas but the audio master is either stereo or 5.1.
    Can you advise a software to join the audio and the video??

      I got Adobe Premiere to export .mov with 4ch audio.
      But now UA-cam keeps refusing the videos, even after I inject the metadata with the metadata tool...

      Isn't there a way to have a youtube ready video without needing a master degree in digital audio engineering? I know my question look noobish but I just do not understand anything about the youtube spatial audio spec and I can't find any step by step guide to how to make a proper sequence in Premiere Pro :/
      By the way thank you very much for this step by step tutorial it is very nice to see my 3d visual composition with spatial sound :)

      Thank you for your anser.
      Of course having a pro doing the job is always my first option but this is maybe not the case for the budget and the nature of the (small) projects I want to develop. I'm an illustrator / animator and want to give 3d soundscapes to my illustrations.
      Like this I can use youtube as a showing platform.
      Maybe I have to wait a little so that there is more info out there. I know that Adobe wants to include those features in the next release of their Premiere Pro.

    Hello man great turorial. I tried SpookSyncVR v0.7 with the latest GoPro Vr but nothing happens. Then i tried older versions of SpooSync but still the same, neither GoPro VR nor Reaper responded. (windows 7 64bit) Any ideas??

      Hey Henk, thanks for the speed reply, Ive posted my screenshot right here indicating the version of ATK file im using (snag.gy/8nWOty.jpg). MY hardware output goes to left and right to my headphone, everything works fine until I added the atk decoder binaural like what you did. In the binaural FX while playing the bar on the left is moving, but no output is detected. My sample rate is 44100, and my Reaper version is 5.0, thank you.

    As the GoPro VR Player is master, sync is lost when moving around the timeline in Reaper! Is there a certain codec I should be using to scrub/shuttle in Reaper to allow the video move with it? It makes editing very hard without

    Hey,
    I'm currently trying to render a video for youtube with Reaper.
    I'm using a Windows PC (win10) and can't figure out how to render the ambisonic audio directly on the video inside reaper. It doesn't allow me to render it in the right format to also inject the meta data.
    Has anyone ideas how to solve that problem?

    Has anyone else had an issue where pressing play on GoPro VR Player permanently puts media items "OFFLINE" in Reaper? It may be an issue with how my audio device (Focusrite Scarlett 2i4) is handling it. I'm not sure. If anyone else has experienced this and fixed it, please let me know. Thanks!

    Hi, first of all, many thanks for this video.... life changer :P lol... second.. after opening the ATK FOA Transform Rotate Tilt, etc, VST, Reaper won't let me change the sound position. Its like its stuck ... i stop... drag it and immediately gets back to the original position.

    Hey Man,
    -How would you make W, Y, Z, X TO 0, 1, 2, 3 if I want to export just 1 Audio file (4channel). The Encoder Im using doesnt accept 2 files (2ch) each as you did.
    -Which encoder do you use to mux the 4 channel to a 360 video.
    Im kind of lost at that final stage.

      Yes the video is a little outdated in that sense. Best is to make a 4 channel export track and send the 4 channel master track to that. This will be in FuMa format so if you need to export in AmbiX make sure to put the ATK btoambix plugin on it. You can mux the 4 channel audio track with the video with iffmpeg (on a mac) of myffmpeg (on pc)

    Apologies, I am new to spatial audio and to Reaper.... but would be grateful if someone could answer - the input file for the FB360 encoder is an 8-channel .wav file. Can I follow the methodology above, but render the 4 channel 3D Master to an 8-channel output file?? i.e. the last 4 channels would therefore be blank. I would then encode to a .tbe file using FB360 encoder?

      When I move the video in GoPro VR to the right, the ATK Monitor goes to the left. Pitch and Yaw both are inverse. Please let me know if you know what cause this problem. Many Thanks!

    The barrier I keep running against is the SpookSync working with Reaper. I have it Kolor Eyes 5 working with Max Runtime 6. The SpookSync box is viewable however the green lamp next to the port numbers is not available. I believe this reflects that it is not communicating with either Kolor Eyes or Reaper.
    I am getting a message in Max that "sadam.updReceiver: No such Object" I have found your link to this download package, however I have no idea how to employ it.
    Can you offer some insight here or should I just wait for the stand along version of spooksync to make it way?
    BTW, I am sure the community is open to this as a "pay/purchase" software. It seems a very elegant solution for what is about to be an explosive demand.

      +Henk I Spook Hi Henk, I've been following your workflow but got stuck at the same place as Michael J. Ciancio (no green lights next to ports in SpookSync3D). I'm working on PC and I get the exact same error message in Max ("sadam.updReceiver: No such Object"). I believe I have found the "documents/max 7/library" path (it's actually the same on PC) but what file is suppose to go in there?? Sorry this is my first experience with Max so I'm trying to figure things out.. Thanks!

    Hi Henk! Can you tell more about "fov" option in SpookSync? I realy need to "transform the gain of elements in the direction of interest versus those in the opposite direction (acoustic zoom effect)", how do you do this? What atk plugin do you use?

    When sending the yaw information using SpookSync v0.6 + GoPro VR Player into Reaper I do not get any movement, but sending pitch works fine. I walked through the process, anyone else run into this issue? or have a fix? Thanks

      Hi Paul. I had the same issue. I solved it by using version 2.0.2 of the go pro player, not the latest version. A bit of googlefu will get you there, but I made a tiny url link to tech radar which has the right version. Tinyurl(dot)com(slash)hdh3ug7

    Hello, I can't seem to get the transport bar to sync between GoPro VR Player and Reaper. I am using Reaper v5.40, GoPro VR Player v2.2.0 and Spook Sync v0.7 Is anyone else had this problem, any suggestions please?

    Hi! Thank you so much for the video.
    I´ve been trying the workflow but when I try to play it, all my audio files go offline. Could you help me out to solve this?
    I haven,t changed the names or location of the files or anything. If I try to listen with reaper on its own, it works just fine but when it´s synced everything goes offline.

    I visited the Spook web page and I can´t download the SpookSync3D . You know where I can download it from?

    Amazing tutorial. I followed along closely, but hit a snag with syncing Kolor Eyes to Reaper using Spooksync.. I setup all of the paramaters you outlined, however I can't get my ATK transform plugin to link/control my Kolor Eyes video motion. I noticed the green lamp next to the Reaper port is blinking.. could this be suggesting an issue? Any troubleshooting ideas? Thank you for your help.

      +Henk I Spook You're right. I used the wrong wording. I do have Kolor Eyes setup as the master in the UDP, with the right port numbers. But, neither the pitch, yaw, or transport functions are working. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

      With Kolor Eyes as the master, when you move your video around the ATK plug in moves with it. You can see him move the mouse over to the video and he moves that not the plug in.

    Has anyone that used this method, found that once the video is uploaded to UA-cam, that there is a lot less definition/directionality to each sound compared to monitoring while still in reaper? If I position a sound directly at 90° to the right, that sound it is a lot more prominent in that direction but i still hear a lot of bleed in my left ear compared to how it sounded in Reaper. Just curious if this is a common issue or if there is a way to improve?

      I just tried it out on my laptop (also Windows 10) and was able to run the exe fine once I bypassed the security warning. Must be something with my desktop computer's security settings. I'll have to figure out what's going on. Thanks!

    Thanks for this video.
    I'm having a problem with the Rotate function of the Transform RotateTiltTumble plugin.
    The blue spot and the yellow dots are going to opposite directions, the only way of having them going together is to change the Tumble to -180 (all sounds weird)
    I think it might be a bug or a configuration issue I'm having here.
    I used the template provided with the ATK for Reaper.

      +Henk I Spook so, I can't seem, when you get to the automation part of your explanation, to get Reaper to show me that it's receive pitch , yaw, or zoom messages from spooksync. They simply don't sync. When I press Learn in the automation window it doesn't show any messages.
      I also downloaded your reaper session, and in yours i can see the pitch messages, but following your exact following workflow doesn't sync both softwares up.

      Hi, great video! I am having this exact same problem running Reaper on OSX with SpookSync VR v0.4 and Go Pro VRPlayer 2.0. top Kolor Eyes Port number light is solid but the Reaper Light is flashing and will not show up with the Pitch message when attempting to automate. Any help would be hugely appreciated, thanks!

      Ahh still happening- I attempted again using Kolor Eyes Version 1.5 and the green lights in Spook Sync continuously flicker on and off as if they can't gain a solid connection. It is going to be super satisfying when I can figure this out..Any help would be amazing!

      Have you started using fb360? If so, are you going to make a video on how to use that with KolorEyes? A lot of people I talked to don't like the Ambisonic stuff and prefer fb360 as it has the best workflow currently.

    i have an issue with the spooksyncVR , it doesnt send or it does not receive yaw data on reaper, i m using kolor eyes 1.4 with spooksyncvr , maybe i need to use spooksync3d, do you somewhere that version of the software, cuase the new version of kolor eyes only works in 10.10 and im not able to upgrade my OSX, please help !! , thank you Henk

      Unfortunately Kolor Eyes 1.4 does not work with SpookSyncVR. Maybe you can try out the new GoPro VR player

      I have added a folder with older versions to the dropbox but the oldest version is v0.3 and was made for Kolor Eyes 1.6, so not sure if it works for your system

    Thank you for this incredibly helpful video. The pitch automation is working fine, but I can't get the yaw to automate. I'm using SpoocSync v.07 and GoPro VR Player 2.1. Anybody found a workaround for this?

      Yaw and Pitch should both work again with SS0.7 and GPVR 2.1.2. Did you uncheck pitch when learning the yaw function?

      Yes, I did uncheck pitch when learning yaw. I'm not sure what I did wrong in that case... Anyway, I tried again with GPVR 2.0 and SS0.7 worked fine with that, so I'll just do that for the time being. Thanks for your help!

    This video is great! I'm having one issue that I was hoping someone might be able to help with. I'm new to Reaper so it seems like it might be an issue with that. I have SpookSync and Kolor eyes running, both green lighted and communicating with one another. My issue is that sometimes I will hit play within Reaper, switch to Kolor Eyes to view, and then my media files will all go offline. Anyone have any ideas of why this is happening?

      +scheitster Happens to me aswell. Without stoppig Kolor eyes (reaper also running) drag some file from media explorer to a track, and detete it. All media will became online.

      I got the same issue.It happens when you hit play in Reaper, which doesn't sound good with Transport on. When you hit play in Kolor Eyes then, it will go offline. It solves when you replace the media again, but it's pretty hard not to press spacebar every time again when I'm in Reaper. I'm trying to avoid it now, but it still happens.

      It is extremely annoying and I have no clue why it's defaulted to do this, but to turn it off just go to Prefs>Media> and uncheck the box that says "Set Media Items Offline when Application is not active".

      FB360 Spatialozer workstation plugin gives the possibility to create two master into a .tbe file, one master with ambisonic spatialozed contebt and a second one with a simple stereo, but I didnt really found out which platforms support .tbe files...keep researching...bests

      Hi Henk, I'm trying to send just the VO to the W channel to make it dead centre as you say. Do you know if the W channel is always the most left on the track meter? I want to make sure I'm sending it to the correct channel. I'm running the transform rotate plugin on the final bus and a B to A decoder. Many thanks!

      hi Henk, thanks for your tip. I got it to work with the VO staying in place for gear vr :) I'm trying to do the same for UA-cam delivery now.. I'm aware of the delivery specs as I've done it before for UA-cam but has something changed with the channel ordering? I'm using the wigware channel re ordering settings as described by Bruce Wiggins on his blog about UA-cam delivery a while ago. Do you know if things have changed on that? many thanks

      I broke some connections near "s transportsync". It works buggy, but Reaper stays online. You should hit "play" in Reaper, and than hit "play" in ColorEyes.

    When I look tumbled towards the sky (up) on KolorEyes, ATK Tilt/Tumble would point down. Completely inverted to what your video was showing. I edited ATK plugin to this: slider3:0Tumble (mouse).
    Now it works like in your video, as an example, looking at the ground (or click hold then moving mouse up) makes ATK's top hemisphere circles smaller and bottom hemisphere circles larger.
    That's correct yeah?

      I had it patched wrong in the the SpookSyncVR when I made the video. Now it is correctly implemented so no need to change anything
