    How do you use minor scales in your music? Do you make cool TLC-inspired instrumentals, too?

    Damn, your videos are criminally underrated. I think I'm finally starting to get the theory behind riffs a bit more. I've looked up scales, and they expect you to know intervals, then you look up intervals and they expect you to know scales. I knew the major and minor scales, but just in an abstract way. No I kind of see how you put them together into a melody. Thank you.

    • @lopmow9448

      Raising is moving the key up a half step (semitone). When she raises the 6th, she's moving they key that was meant to be A sharp over one to B.

    • @ikkarezlet1922

      You can use chords from both the scales if they sound good, they are called borrowed chords

  • @George-nx8zu
    @George-nx8zu 3 роки тому +1

    Can you explain a bit further about how the harmonic minor is used to achieve the major fifth leading back to the one chord in harmony?

    • @LANDRmusic
      @LANDRmusic  3 роки тому

      For sure. In the key of C minor, the fifth chord would be g minor if you're using the standard natural minor to build the chord. By using the harmonic minor you'll get a raised 7th degree, making the B flat a B natural. This would lead to your major five chord: G major. Hope this helps!

    • @matthewbaumann630
      @matthewbaumann630 3 роки тому

      The harmonic scale borrows one accidental from the parallel major key and the melodic borrows two. With those, you can also build chords from the parallel major key.

    @landr Can Peggy maybe answer this please? She is very nice :)
    In the song Get Lucky-Daft Punk, a Rhodes piano is added to the second period of music (bar 9). It is playing the same chords as the progression, but the chords are in first inversion and are played with a different rhythm.
    I think my question is about chord function, but maybe arrangement? The rhodes is middle in the mix and un-noticeable until you listen for it. But it seems to have an incredible impact on the energy and feel of the song.
    Reference:
    ua-cam.com/video/XkeIwhKIi84/v-deo.html
    Key: F#m
    Bm7 - D - F#m7 - E
    Thank you Landr

    • @LANDRmusic
      @LANDRmusic  3 роки тому +3

      That's a great observation Ramm S. This definitely ties into arrangement. The rhodes are playing on the off beat eighth notes, adding some forward motion to the music. Layering chords with different rhythms and textures of sound can have a huge impact on the energy of a song.
