I didn't realize til recently... ebm, industrial, post punk... all owe such a huge debt to tnis band that made minimalism so huge sounding
All the synth bands of the Uk wouldn't have existed without Suicide. Soft Cell etc.
@@madontherun Genres such as new wave, post-punk and gothic rock come from the influences of bands and artists, not only from Suicide, but also from Television, Pere Ubu, Sparks, The Velvet Underground, Kraftwerk, La Monte Young, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Neu and Can.
Well i wouldn't say its because of suicide. I view suicide as more of an intermediate things, a middle between known music and little known music scene like the kitchen society and other shit from 60s
@@omegajrz1269 don't forget The Silver Apples
@@omegajrz1269I believe Kreftwork looks at Rev and Vega as influences.
Definitely ahead of their times! Simply an awesome adventure.
I first heard this song on WPRB‘s “Crest of the New Wave” weekly radio show. I would listen with headphones and I’d have a pen and legal paper and take notes about the songs, the artists and the styles I heard. This song really grabbed me!
Other songs I heard from that radio show included Jacko Homo by Devo, the original boojie boy recording of it (different from the Eno produced album version.) I also remember “Little Johnny Jewel” by Television from those intense listening sessions!
This is the first I’ve come across this video of “Ghostwriter” by Suicide, and it is awesome!
Masterpiece.
these guys showed the world how minimalism is supposed to be applied
ABSOLUT MASTERPIECE 🔥🔥🔥❤️🩹
Yes
Icones RIP Alan Vega 🙏❣️
I played this LP constantly back in the day. I knew my love for records like this when I was a lad made me different from other kids in some fundamental way. On an intellectual level I didn't understand why this was the case one bit, but felt quite deeply on an intuitive one. That's the power of music.
This is a fantastic edit to marry up to the studio version, thank you.
I hear Manson is about to cover this lil diamond of a track. Cannot wait. Both legendary!
Manson the megalomaniac s3xually violent despot? As if he deserves being associated with this underground classic
hatte ich als LP seit ca. 1980..............
Fun fact: Suicide were the first band ever described as “punk rock”
Or maybe it was nearly 10 years earlier to describe The Fugs after a Chicago gig.
Citation needed.
@@christopherthomas7253yeah I got it backwards. They were the first band to refer to THEMSELVES as punk in an advertisement for a 1970 show.
Either Suicide or The Fugs
This somehow found its way onto the "1001 songs you must hear before you die" list. Wouldn't have been my choice, but it's a worthy exercise to listen to a variety of different style.
Pioneers 😉👌
Imagine hearing this for the very first time... What a rush it may have been
I am here for the ride
Fantastic sound made before when that's kind of play was start.
I am surprised to see that it was a musical band ahead of its time, the performance of the singer was minimalist, which is very common today.
LOVE
best ever
Sigue Sigue Sputnik...
whoa. thx u for this upload.
BOMB!
You can clearly tell it's a no-wave 70s band from New York, by the Lou Reed influence on the vocalist's voice. Since Lou Reed in the 70s was a bit like "the poet of the NY underworld" who influenced most of the great bands there (even in later years) such as Blondie, Television, Suicide, Talking Heads, The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, etc.
Wow! So this is where Jesus and Mary Chain got their sound... 🤔
awesome
Classic 🎶
que genialidad lpm!
En Uruguay tuvimos una banda así llamada Zero

True Crimes: New York City brought me here
Influential throughout the Decades
And that Influence only growing more
And always the terrible Hair style on Alan

They really need to bring this and the Rollin's Band cover back for the just announced Ghost Rider MCU stuff!
What's up with the "statisch video" emblazoned across the screen? do you own the rights to the video?
I do not own the rights. It's my channel, that's why I want the logo in the corner.
Consider it a quality stamp.
😁
Hey guys- I was farted on hard by a ghost/suicide. Can anyone explain that? It was disgusting 🙏
