- www.ted.com Thinking startup? David S. Rose's rapid-fire TED U talk on pitching to a venture capitalist tells you the 10 things you need to know about yourself -- and prove to a VC -- before you fire up your slideshow.
I listened to this 5 times - not because of how fast he speaks but because of the value of what he is saying.
This is gold. Short, full of information, and right to the point. Amazing!
Wow! I bought David's book, The Start-Up Checklist, which is giving me an invaluable roadmap for creating a solid foundation for my company. I just decided to check youtube to see if there were any videos of him and found this presentation. Feel like I've struck gold.
I am so lucky to have gotten into one on one contact with him! He even helped me out with my business plan. Couldn't hurt to personally know a VC lol. What a boss.
Like to be honest, putting myself on shoes of an investor - this is the exact presentation I would want to hear. He just killed it!

Coachability (as in ability to listen)
Thanks, this talk is really helpful! It's opened my eyes on several practical matters.
The people below who complain Rose is speaking too quickly obviously aren't from New York.
i love fast talkers. get to and through the information faster... being from New York, yea i can relate....
Lol yeah, I had the video at x2 and it felt normal. Great video btw!
This is very good listening. Startup pitching to Venture Capital firm.
Integrity, Passion, Experience, Knowledge, Skill, Leadership, Commitment, Vision, Realism, Coachability.
Good lord this guy is good at breaking stuff down lol. The best explanation 've seen on how to talk to VCs and build a business.
amazing presentation - so much high quality content in such a short time.
I think this man learn how to pitch to investor from Eminem.
Great presentation, gets to the heart of it!
With a little more finance and operations, this video is a boiled down MBA in a nutshell. Not bad. It's clean and understandable. I'm getting my MBA this winter and I'm taking this all in lol.
This guy is gold. pay attention noobs, this is the real formula.
Thank you SIr, a lot of appreciations!
this is an amazing video, very helpful and totally succinct.

3)Hands outs are not your presentation
4)Don't read your speech
5)Never, ever look at the screen
I have David's book Angel Investment. Amazing!
Classic! And still great 14 years later. Smart viewers might also notice how 9 / 10 "domain experts" will disagree with every single point he makes.
I held my breath until the end :) good info and to the point
this presentation is unbelievable great.
Absolutely brilliant !
Heck yeah. David Thanks so much!
It’s shocking that all of the comments are based off of this guys appearance and not the content and his knowledge base.
Best way to pitch vc...
How do I get in touch with David for training?
Where was this guy when I needed him in 2005?
Gold points. Buy not possible if your pitch is 5 minutes short
The goal is the same, even for a five minute "quick pitch". But instead of the +/-13 slide sequence I discuss in the video, try something like:
Logo / Name / Tag
Team
Market / Pain
Product / Solution
Business Model / Financials
Unique Advantage
Raise / Valuation
Oh that's great info, thank you for this.
Great video, thank you!
Watch at 0.75X speed to make out any sense :D
I saw the full at 2.00x.
Later I came into the comment section and saw the critism of his fast talking speech😂
Loool, I checked several times the speed of the video!!
so much better
Thank you so much for the valuable information.
That's awesome instruction thanks
This is good advice for anyone trying to sell something
@instereovideos
A VC presentation bud. This was an informational presentation.
Very useful video.
Loved it.
@icommand may i ask what business sector are you in??
@icommand are you starting your own tech company?
Who is your drug dealer dude? That's probably your best point.
perfect ! thanks
Amazing.
Damn that was good
Be interestingly confident in your craft (presentation)...
this guy should be the windows guy on a mac commercial lol
He told us that bullet points and headlines are inferior for presentations... he presented that information in the form of bullet points.
Instead of writing all that BS, people should use this video to actually learn something. You can even use this for your presentations in school.
What you give is what you get.
DUDE IT GOOD!!!

It feels like this video is stuck on fast-forward. I don't know what tools he's using to pace himself, but he definitely needs to upgrade to something that can help him slow down. He's NOT pitching to VCs right now; he's explaining something to a classroom audience.
I'm just glad my computer isn't broken because I seriously thought the speed of the video playback was off. Now I see it's just him! :) All kidding aside, the info in the video is ok... provides at least some useful guidance.
This guy is Tai Lopez at 70 lmao
He's a bit annoying, but that's because he's on a timer (15 min).
He also didn't suggest the dumber the idea the better it is. On the contrary, he say that vision and realism is key @ 4:25. Stupid ideas have no vision or realism.
I thought it's informational. Well, to each their own.
@rosamond2009 I think he just talks fast in general
I am indeed, cosmic in nature and divine by design, if that makes me a moron, so be it.
VC? Venezuelan Cook?
VC? Voluptuous Candyman?
This video is not meant for plebs.
@AnimalPak08 don't get mad.
These 10 words is not only to know. Maybe to have..XD
maybe his pitch is intended for people whose brains are faster then yours?
So basically, keep things dumbed down and pretty, people will spend more if you can keep their attention without making them think very much. Anything that can draw their attention away like a lecturn, or the color of your shirt or a typo will send them off to la la land. I think this should be called. How to pitch to a VC with ADD.
No actually he naturally talks like that. I've seen on Business Insider and other interviews and he's naturally a hyper guy.
classic
I agree, the problem is that capitalism is just so susceptible to corruption and powerful control...
He is most likely speaking fast because he is under a specified time constraint.
[01:57] "somebody who i know is straight" ahahaha how sexist =P

learned a few things but man.. he needs to chill and talk a little slower despite the time constraint.
The irony makes me laugh, where he slams Bill Gates' pitching technique whilst praising Steve Jobs....all the while he talks about (and talks with) Power Point presentations...a Microsoft product. So to me, in the eyes of a VC, the most powerful thing to get their money is have a GREAT idea about a product or Service that people will demand.
"but I like the Vegan Commander thing better, lol"
He did look a bit meat deprived didn't he? I don't think I could trust anyone with large sums of money that isn't even on my level of the food chain.
