  • Congratulations on your nuc of bees! This beekeeper tutorial will teach you how to transfer your bees from nuc to hive. If you're a beginner beekeeper, follow along with our daughter, Cora, as she installs her nuc!
    Learning to install a nuc of bees is actually quite simple. Take your time and be careful with the girls. Every beekeeper has a special relationship with their bees, and it starts here. When you transfer bees from nuc to hive, it's a magical moment. You're giving your bees a chance to grow and flourish, and to help us in return with honey and pollination.
    Beginner beekeeper or seasoned apiarist, we have what you need to keep bees. Like John says, "If you bee needin' it, we bee havin' it." Check us out online - we have thousands of items built especially for the beekeeper. We ship all over the country.

    Rookie beekeeper here! I help run my college’s beekeeping club and we’re planning on installing some nucs in the spring after our only hive absconded. Thanks to this tutorial, now I know how to actually do it! Cora reminds me of myself at her age. Makes me wish I’d learned how to beekeep earlier but it’s never too late to learn 🐝

    Hives in the shade? Usta think shade was best here in East Texas due to the heat. After losing hives to beetles learned different. Now mine are in direct sun all day, come Jun-Sep I have the lid sitting on a 1X1 on top of screened top board - good ventilation, no rain coming in, a small door to get in (less robbers). I have screen bottom & top board and beetle traps. Hives sit in a concrete platform or a layer of old shingles from my roof repair. Rarely do I see a beetle now.
    PS found no difference between smoking and not smoking, cept less effort w/o smoke. Try it and see, most folks smoke and it is best for them.

    What i would suggest to new keepers is to remove the 2 frames from the hive to the one side install nuke then slide those in putting one against frames from nuke first. Object is to not smash any or roll the Queen. Those cardboard nukes the sides will move so have help to pull wall while you remove first frame from it. You can bump the Nuke box and put the remaining BEES into new hive. If scared you can do it the way they did but check and make sure Queen is still not in nuke as at times she is. Nice to see the young Lady getting into BEEs

      Hey there, Steven. Yes those nuc boxes are very useful after their initial use has been fulfilled. And they will serve as a great swarm trap as well. Thanks! #RTBBF

    • @edmartin875
      @edmartin875 2 місяці тому

      It is a little small for a large swarm so it may be rejected by some swarms. But there is a good possibility of it catching a swarm of bees. While it is made of good cardboard, it is cardboard and will not stand up to foul weather as well as a wooden swarm trap would. Experimentation has determined the best size of a swarm trap would be one with about 40 liters or a little over 10 gallons of space inside the box.

      @edmartin875 2 місяці тому

      @@johnholladay2534 I'm next. It's my turn, right? Which story should I tell ? Oh, I know. Here goes.
      Nucs come in various sizes, but the norm is 5 frames, with about 2 frames of brood and some open cells for the queen to lay eggs. The other 3 generally has 1 frame with nothing but honey and the other 2 with a mix of honey, pollen and some open cells. All that varies in each nuc.
      Ok John, your turn for the third story.

    Why do you need the feeder?

    • @edmartin875
      @edmartin875 2 місяці тому

      They have no nectar coming in because the bees are new to the area and don't know where it can be found. They soon find out they need to draw comb to store the first nectar brought in so the feeder gives the nutrition to start building comb for nectar storage and more cells for the queen to lay eggs in.
