HeavyNess... A lot of... Oh my
Four hundred plus years of slavery and colonization ... Did you expect it to be light and happy? Oh my ...
@@ruthosmanwritesandsings my dear...
The lyrics and the meaning of the original song it's nothing about that... Only lightness...
So why covering a very famous and light song like "Pata Pata" in a "funeral way"?
Please, don't be rethoric🙏
@@uccellodellanotte if you listened to the clips of Makeda's interviews interspersed throughout the song, you'd notice that they created context for the way in which the song was arranged. It's a stroke of brilliance to use Makeba's own words and voice as the crux on which to pivot the song, making it something new and yet faithful to her message and what she stood for. This isn't light music but it isn't meant to be. To listen to music like this and to say it is too heavy is just another way of attempting to silence a voice/ perspective that makes you uncomfortable.
Somi's message follows in the tradition of icons like Makeba and they will not be silenced.

In semiotics it is called "aberrant decoding" ...
That is the meaning / content of a text cannot be distorted by going against the feeling of the text itself and of the interior of the author of the text ... It is only A FORCING. ... Why don't we take the children's songs and rearrange them heavy metal? Do I understand? I repeat ... Try not to be unnecessarily rhetorical, I speak of art, communication messages, thank you🙏
@@uccellodellanotte further review on how Mama Miriam felt about this song in juxtaposition to her life’s work might better illustrate that the feeling of the “author’s interior” (Makeba’s) was in fact mostly “against” the upbeat “feeling of the [original] text”. Often times Black bodies - and Black women in particular - are carrying things that are indeed heavier than the Western gaze is willing to see or hear. Thank you for taking the time to listen to this and make that point even clearer. 🖤
