One thing that irks me in regards to Joey Wheeler is Seto Kaiba's constant disrespect towards him. Sure, Kaiba (reluctantly) respects Yugi (and by extension Atem), but rarely acknowledges Joey's skills by calling him a 'third-rate duelist with a second-rate deck' and downplays his wins as being pure luck. Joey wasn't supposed to be in the Battle City tournament, yet he was entered anyway and proved Kaiba wrong by reaching the finals. While he was astonished (though in an inner monolouge) that he almost beat Marik, Kaiba immediately backtracked on his words in their 'bronze medal' match where Joey proved that he is able to hold on his own even with a huge handicap as Kaiba's Crush Card Virus trap early on in the duel decimated alomst his entire deck.
Really do wish Kaiba gave Joey the credit he deserves. He placed 2nd in Duelist Kingdom and made it to the finals in his own tournament. He make Marik scared and in the Japanese version after Joey loses to Marik, Marik has to throw up cause he was so scared afterwards. Not to mention he even made Kaiba quake after taking his Blue-Eyes in the bronze duel. I'd like to think deep down Kaiba has respect for Joey as a duelist, at least a little bit. 🙏
@renatoramos8834 I remember their first duel against Lumis and Umbra where his opening hand was 3 Blue-eyes, 2 flutes of summoning dragon, and Lord of D. Then drew Obelisk on his next turn. Like bruh ain't no way lmfao
@@uCrossTV He also got pot of greed to net him 7 cards on the first turn, and also got a hyozanryu to summon with the flute. I used his hand to make a fan card called 4th rate duelist with a 5th rate deck.
One thing left out was how much more of a badass he is in the manga. In the anime he was usually getting beaten up and seen as a guy who only talked tough. An example is how when he fought Bandit Keith it was a toddler vs an adult. In the manga Joey was actually more of a menace. His dad was a drunk who greeted him with beer bottle to the head so he was always out with street fighting gangs, so he could actually fight.
Most important victory that's an understatement cuz he was also motivated for mie Valentine. And how they kind of assassinated her character later on as well. As if Joey failed her nah!:the the plot failed her an Joey
side note, in the manga i think they dont duel in duelist kingdom, so it would actually be their first serious duel not a rematch. if it makes you feel better, its implied joey beats yugi off screen to get his red eyes back after the arc
It is cool to know after seeing Joey use Red Eyes again in S4, just would've really liked to have seen it all take place. Imagine watching Joey beat Yami. Would've been so cool and would've further emphasized his growth as a duelist. ❤
man nearly died twice in battle city finals, and nearly won both related games but lost top 4 because kaiba allowed a guy to invoke the power of satan.
if we go for technicallity Joey was the battle city winner, he lost to marik because CMON this was a god attack wtf, he even survived it, second of all when yugi and joey fight again its offscreen and joey have his red eyes in the movie so he does beat yugi
Man they did Joey so dirty in the anime. Bro lost his last duel on screen to a crappy filler villain and backtracked on all his character development. Only thing thats at least slightly good is that its more or less canon that Joey beat Atem clean at some point. Given he has Red-Eyes back with him after Battle City. So he must have beaten Atem for it. Which puts him in a very special category of people who have beaten Atem without shenanigans. The only other people in that list is Yugi and Raphael. So hes part of a select group. I also wish Joey got to duel in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie. Even if it was a quick one. We got to see Kaiba and Yugi use the updated cards for their archetypes but Joey doesnt. Man the disrespect. Would have loved to see Joey summon Archfiend Black Skull Dragon.

And Kaiba himself is a 4th rate duelist, with a 5th rate deck. So many bricks that only anime BS let's him win a duel.

@renatoramos8834 Gotta hate top decking smh
Joey was nerfed because he would of been unstoppable with his Brooklyn Rage
Joey would make JoeyCorp and put KaibaCorp out of business.

He got a lot of wins in Yugioh R
True. I read Yugioh R a couple months ago actually. Was pretty insane but loved the whole thing!

Mai was also done dirty in battle city. She outsmarted marik, and then the sphere mode bs...
"I hope you can read Egyptian, L bozo"
Yeah especially since that text never appears again I don't believe

Doesn’t Jounoichi have brain damaged by being struck by lightning and then getting hit by divine fire
