I know it was a low-tech plant, but adding liquid carbon fertilizer would have solved the algae problem a bit faster and sooner before it got out of hand, in my opinion. Had the same issue until I started adding EasyCarbo (from Easy-Life). The algae vanished like snow in the sun and the plants grew like mad and got their color backs. 1ml per 25L did the trick here (and removing as much algae as I could by hand). Be careful with this product though: I recommend testing the CO2 levels on regular base, so that you don't overdose. And re-apply when you start noticing a significant increase of algae again (and plants fading). Cheers.
I have 200l planted discus fish tank. I had cfl tube of 24w 4 feet long. No algae challenge. I have faced to algae from when I used four led bulbs of 9w each, thus total 36w. Actually it is very less for 200l heavy planted tank. But still algae get started to show its existence. I now uses only 16w led tube, diy co2, increases water flow, stop fertilization, weekly 40-50% water change, less fish feeding not less but enough, very clean water and filter, used 1 month hydrogen peroxide weekly dose after water changes. Hushssss... Now no algae. Now I am going to replace the light from 16w led tubelight to 25w x 2 CFL light.
What happens is you finally had enough plant to out compete the algae. Only, the plant wasn't your favorite I gather. I've been fighting hair algae on moss mostly. Like you I used garden soil under plants. Only my plants are in pots. Val has grown fantastically. Others,I think could have done as well without any soils..or very little mixed in,then topped with sand or gravel. After 3 months, its just hair on Java Moss..the rest of the tank has settled down. This is a 240 gallon aquarium.
I'm a little confused in here..Why did you use liquid fertilizers since you've made it from garden soil?I'm asking cause I'm planning to make the substrate just like yours.
I also happen to setup a Walstad method tank..Plants started melting from bottom but new shoots started coming from stems and top portion...Ammonia and nitrates were also high did frequent water changes.Still the stems at the bottom portion have few algaes growing..Did hydrogen peroxide application for algae.Plants growth is quite slow cant tell whether lights an issue or CO2

No I didnt. There is simple garden (for pot plants) soil.
Home Aquarium ok,thanks😁

Why do you think this tank got so much algae, but your others with similar set up didnt? Did you do anything different?
I add there some clay, and there were more dirt than usual.
Nowhere near enough soil. Plants ran out of nutrients way too fast.
I had a 10-year-old aquarium on the ground and it was ok;)
