One of my 21st century favourite bands (Beach Fossils) picks one of my favourite albums ever ('A Storm In Heaven' by The Verve). And... Uuhhh! 'In The Wee Small Hours' by Frank Sinatra is so beautiful. This makes me love Beach Fossils more than I thought I could.

Beach Fossils is a band I've always had a bit of trouble getting into, but they seem like pretty cool guys. Good picks, too, and I love when it's stuff that informs their sound as performers. It's always fascinating to see. Also, I didn't know Kurt Vile was in this band XD
I've been listening to Modern English's After The Snow since I was a kid. It's one of the few album I absolutely never get tired of. It has a beautiful, wintry austerity and the production is lean and they don't go overboard on the synths. "I Melt With You" is such a monumental hit song that it does seem to cancel out the rest of the album, which is a real shame. The Verve's Urban Hymns is a magnificent. IMO, it's the best rock album of the 90s, better than Nevermind. Love the space rock of Storm in Heaven.
I only got into the Goo Goo Dolls very recently. Put it off for a long time because I assumed their songs were all lame ballads like Iris. Well, I was very wrong. Their early career is straight up Replacements worship and i love it. Also, damn... Scritti Politti, think that might be the first time I've seen them mentioned on What's in My Bag. These guys have great taste and picks.

YES! Big points for mentioning The Verve - A Storm In Heaven. Should really be heralded as an all time classic up with Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures. And he's right, it stands alone in their catalog as far as mood/tone. Their early singles also shared the same sound, but the albums that followed, never repeated the ethereal quality in ASIH. If you love shoegaze and dreamy guitar, put on your headphones and fasten your seatbelt. Also Felt is criminally overlooked/underrated. Glad to see them mentioned as well.
