Most excited I have been for a UA-cam notification in a while! Almost no one is discussing this album. I feel like the release timing was pretty bad for it to get any real attention. As you already touched on, Aurora is kind of in a unique lane in the realm of pop music. That causes many to already overlook her output. Then, this album had the misfortune of being surrounded by releases from Swift, Eilish, Dua Lipa, and Charli XCX. Thank you for being one for the few brave ones to tackle discussing her music. AVAA!
"My Body Is Not Mine" was co-written with Tom Rowlands of The Chemical Brothers. The ending reprise was the result from, and I quote ... "I texted him one evening just saying, ‘Tom - puke vomit all over my song please’. And he did, for like four hours."

AVAA - I saw this album on my FYP on Spotify, figured I'd check it out eventually, but when I saw that this video was posted a few days ago I put it immediately on my list to listen to that day. Some 5 or 6 listens to it now, and I can't say that there's another Aurora project I've enjoyed quite so thoroughly. There are so many lines that feel like they fall out of the blue and punch you in the gut. These fully-formed philosophical nuggets that bring you to tears when you were just enjoying the electronic-folk-artpop vibes not expecting emotions. I admit to not being that well versed in the adjacent genres Aurora is working in here, (that Japanese Breakfast moment [Paprika, BTW] is one I'm familiar with, and I know about a third of Björk's catalog, but this album is such an accessible way to explore those genres. The random burst of tears are a nice little bonus. But most important, I hadn't considered that Aurora may have been writing in part about Palestine. That makes me love this record even more. 🇵🇸
AVAA! This is a hard video/album to comment on because Aurora's projects are like glass mazes; everything being clear makes it as hard as it is easy to navigate. I think the earnestness of the project is infectious in how it is discussed. what happened to the heart isn't as important as what didn't, the heart didn't stop.
She always reminds me of Kate Bush in a way, as if she adopted some of her trademark elements and integrated them in her own original style, for instance, the song ¨The Dark Dresses Lightly¨ on this album
I’m going to listen to your reaction regardless, but you should know, Aurora spoke publicly of the album’s genesis before it was even released, the origin being an open letter written by indigenous leaders about the historical shift of all cultures away from heart, and how it’s harming us. Aurora was moved by it, thought much about it, sought out and read much more on the topic and … well … you should seek out that letter, and hear Aurora’s in words in the topic, and what it means to her.
As for don’t know what to do with her, how to categorize her … as answer also to “what happened to the heart?” … I think she’d probably reply, kindly, “I think you may be thinking too much instead of letting yourself feel.”
I thought about Leonard Cohen's song "What happens to the heart" when I read the album title, but your comparison with Eric B/Rakim song was interesting!
Hello I love your videos! I was wondering if you had listened to the MUNA album “About U”. From what i understand the concept for it was to try to use the attitude of punk to make a pop album and i think it’s very interesting and very good.
Little tangent but you mentioned Hieronymus Bosch, you probably have heard of his the music hidden in the garden of earthly delights? It's printed on one of the tortured souls butts and it's genuinely a very pleasant melody
I also had the doubt about what "We're good people, and we both deserve peace. It's difficult it seems." meant, until I heard someone react to the song and mention that it is most likely a reference to the Gaza conflict. The album is scattered with references to that and the desire for a cease fire.
AAVA !!!! underscores dropped some bonus tracks for wallsocket and i think they're some of her best, super super deep and super super fun! would love to hear u talk about it since i found out about her thanks to your video!!
I dont think the underlying theme for Aurora is NOT to use boxes to understand the world. Sha sayd in a intreview that when she started she made å plan ... - that she had eight messages to the world ... and this one is the fourt message...

This is often with other women. Men are conditioned to be shut down, around other men, around women, around themselves. I hope this changes socially one day! AVAA

I feel what you mean, but I don’t think he means to throw shade by naming similarities. Its a common part of music/art analysis to refer to similarities to other pieces of art and is meant to help to understand the artwork better by giving context. Saying something reminds you of something else only gives context and isn’t itself a judgement on how you like something. Artistic originality stems from what you create out of your influences, how you transform something and add your own ideas, The Beatles were very obviously in influenced by Chuck Berry and the Elvery Brothers but the way they turned those influences into their own music was very original.
Another Norwegian band you might find interesting is Kalandra. The leadsinger Katrine Stenbekk is fenomenal and got a lot in common with Aurora. The music is more Folk Prog though. Check out their debut album. (The line)🤏😊
