  • Last month, Rebecca Elton, a Field Biology teacher at Jamestown High School, took her students on a field trip to explore a salt marsh. They canoed along Taskinas Creek at York River State Park and identified different plants and animals they had learned about in class along the way. Discussions also focused on the functions of wetland ecosystems. Students had the privilege of learning about the area from local experts which not only emphasized the importance of wetland ecosystems, but also displayed local career opportunities in field biology.
"So, when they take this class and they actually get to be outside, it's great to see the look on their faces when they're experiencing new things and getting to enjoy the natural world," said Elton.
WJCC Schools is fortunate to provide hands-on learning experiences to our students! What an excellent way to learn about the world around us - and our own backyard.
