💜 thank you for taking the time to show the whole process. Sometimes when we watch any DIY we forget how long these things can take. Hope you're doing well.
I always learn something from your channel about woodworking. You're a very clever guy - all of you. Ryan is a hoot, but he's always willing to help, even before he knows what the job is!
I understand why you want a green door! I get it, Beatrix and all. I live in the Cotswolds in the Midlands and I have a green front door. I love it! There is a place and a time for everything and in this instance the green door will do very nicely than you. I really enjoy your vlogs, and by the way what a privilege to have your own Chapel!
So very right on painting the door. 👍 Also, it is very difficult to remove all the paint, then see the natural wood. Also the door is not well protected from the weather unless you constantly take care of it. Totally agree! 😉
I think the painted door and windows are going to make the Cottage charming. I'm glad you decided your going to paint it even though so many comments asked you not to. I can't wait to see how it turns out.🥀🥀🥀
My family and I live in a 120-year-old Victorian home. Big, white, pillars in the front - we love it. The tenants before us applied 'band-aid' fixes instead of doing it right so my full time job is going back and doing it all right. I would love to document all that I do but I don't know if there would be interest in it. Either way it will be done but I'd love to share my findings. Michael, your videos are extremely inspiring to me; I appreciate your appreciation for old things - it's something we share. There are days where it seems too much & that's when I find a video of yours and it really puts things in perspective. This, and bringing your family into the fold for this excellent adventure is a breath of fresh air in a time seemingly filled with chaos and destruction. Thank you! EDIT: Thank you all for your encouraging words! I will give this thing a shot. Thanks also to this channel for the inspiration. The first thing I will document is the complete reconstruction of the grand front steps. It will be highly custom and historically accurate.

Just watched this episode, Michael. What a beautiful chapel. Awesome stained glass windows. St. Francis receiving the stigmata. The statues of St. Ann and Virgin Mary as a little girl, and the statue of St Elizabeth of Hungary are such a treasure. Please preserve the chapel 💒 🙏
Michael , what can I say .. you are a treasure ! Your tour of the chapel touched my heart , especially when you talked about your birthday & the window ... You were just ment to be there !!
Always entertaining! Thank you Micheal et'al. The timber on the bottom of exterior doors is a sacrificial piece. This timber is designed to keep the door from rotting and to throw rain to keep it from coming under the door. When this timber begins to rot, one simply swaps it out for another. Bondo and other body fillers are extremely versatile. Cheers!
Hey Michael- really enjoyed my visit with you all- Ryan brought back memories of how we used to get reception to the tv (totally forgot about that). Wishing you and the family a great week. Everybodies 2 cents must be a bit tiresome at times. Toodles for now 💕

BIG TIP FROM SOMEONE IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY--- you arent supposed to mix the entire container at one time!!! you are supposed to take a board or cardboard material put the amount of putty you want to use on it, take the hardner and lay a bead across the top and the size of that bead depends on the amount of putty but general rule is you lay a bead of hardner half way across the top and its realative to the amount of putty you are using, if the pile is as wide as your hand then the bead of hardner would be half as wide as your hand if the amount of putty is the size of your thumbnail the bead of hardner would be half the size of your thumbnail and thats usually sufficient. To much hardner and it will set fast, not enough hardner and it just takes longer to set up but it will set so if you are unsure use less. In this case you are fine because you are using alot but in general dont do that and if you must mix the entire container, use about half the tube of hardner maybe a little more and it will double your working time. The amount of hardner used does not determine how hard the putty is when it sets, it only determines how quickly it starts to set.
he seems to like that stuff and he'll probably like it even more when he knows how to best use it, they probably really did just find it lying around somewhere and improvised lol
Brandon Reid Could you mix this stuff in a plastic baggie and then when well mixed, cut of a corner and apply it like a pastry piping to keep it more where you want it and save waste. This way the compound is not exposed to air and might last longer in soft mailable state. Don't know if this gets too hot in the mixed stage but if you use a freezer bag that is a bit heavier it might be sturdy enough to work. Also if you place a small amount of Saran Wrap over an intact area of the trim then apply some of the putty on and let set up, you can then remove it and remove Saran Wrap, use this as a scree to replicate the profile over the newly formed areas later.
I wouldn’t recommend using it like that, the spreader is used to press the putty into the crack or whatever you’re attempting to fill. Also being exposed to air isn’t what causes it to harden it’s adding the hardner, once you add that it’s going to harden at the same pace regardless of air or not. When you store it you want to make sure the lid is on it good and it’s sealed because air will cause it to harden without hardner over time
Been up again since 2.04 am...did the washing shopping and cleaning before I went to work for 7 am.. left work at 5 pm...drove home...made tea...had to deal with a serious hair problem...opened the wine ...and watched this vlog...I need to see the paint 🤣
Over the years my wife and I decorated and furnished our home in Victorian style. We got a lot of inspiration from Molly Brown's home in Denver ("The Unsinkable Molly Brown" who survived the sinking of the Titanic). Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
Painting the door to the Gardener's cottage is right. Even if it had been all teak, it would have needed more sanding and scraping to get rid of all the old paint before you oiled it. A painted door won't need washing and oiling now and then to look nice and it won't get darker either. You can use a crowbar under the door (and some pieces of wood if necessary) to guide it in the correct position when putting it back on the hinges. Mind your fingers; you only got five of them on each hand. ;-)
Michael, you are so talented! The music and pictures compliment each other so well. I look forward to watching you work on your many projects more than you can understand. St Elizabeth is my confirmation saint and St Anne is an important saint to my family dating back generations! What are the chances they are the ones in your chapels altar. Thanks for showing us this, it’s very beautiful. I love your ‘birthday’ window. Btw the Missals are still used every Mass, they contain the bible readings for each Sunday Mass and it allows the people to follow along. I’m excited to keep watching the gardeners cottage and one day the chapel restoration :)
@@lizf506 I think any kind of wedding would be fine. God doesn’t care what religion you are. 🙏I was married in Canada, in a Chapel, with a non-denominational Minister (who was wearing a robe) and it was the PERFECT wedding and I was raised as a Protestant. 😊 Labels be gone - let’s just be happy! 😊
Hi, I'm so glad I caught this episode. That chapel is lovely and such a sacred space where mass was once said. I appreciate your reverence and respect for it. Those are indeed missals and they were and are used for mass to follow along. They are probably French and Latin which is the universal language of the Catholic church and what all mass used to be said in. Now a lot of masses are said in the vernacular since Vatican II. However, a lot of us prefer the Traditional Latin Mass or Extraordinary Form or the Old Rite. Thank you so much for your respect for the chapel. Your show is so interesting and well done.
I still use a missal. I follow along the rite of the mass. It usually has the changing readings of the gospels, epistles, psalms and Old Testament. It sometimes (not always) includes short synopses of the saint of the day ( eg st Mary Margaret on Oct 15) and prayers by them or to them to intercede to God for us.
I loved the opening scenes and music. That putty product looks really great! I'll have to keep it in mind for our cabin. Thank you for showing us the chapel again with more detail, it's a lovely chapel! Thank you for another really beautiful video!
Couldn't agree more. My sister and I helped a friend years ago renovate her first home, we had been around building since we were kids but she didn't have a clue. We we all in our 40's and had so much fun, on Saturdays her sister would come with lunch... then on Sundays, our uncle would bring our elderly dad, (who was just like Mick P) as he was the brains of the operation - it was a wonderful time - my dad and uncle are sadly no longer with us but we have lots of fun photos of this time when we were all together..... we had a blast!
I love the visits to the Chateau !! From humor to getting high speed internet and as always the music you choose just brighten my day !! The chapel is beautiful !! I like the door being kept as original as possible and painting it can't wait to see it finished !! All the best Michael...
I'm not very religious but I feel very drawn to the need to clean, repair and paint the chapel. I have the same feeling about Chateau Lalandes chapel. Maybe because they are private chapels I dont know.
My brother and I felt the same way about our family's private cemetery. He and I struggled to get it looking presentable again because of it's historical relevancy, and also to honor our fore bearers. A friend shouldered the cost of maintaining a family mausoleum. Nothing like paying the dollar amount equal to the price of a new auto for roof on a building where no one lives.
I'm fairly excited to see progress on the cottage, even the door getting restored. I know you were slowed down due to complications with the money. Good to see Ryan and Billy working out the internet speed.
St. Francis is receiving the stigmata wounds from the crucified Christ. The Missals contain the Mass parts and readings from Holy Mass. They are in the chapel for use during Mass. The chapel is the first thing I would have fixed up so as to ask God for His blessings on the Chateau restoration. May God bless you.
as if your videos could get better! this is really like a TV show! Love your channel. TIP--for using two part epoxy: get a piece of thin, flexible plastic to mix your putty and hardener on. scoop out just about two spreader loads of putty to one 1/4 dime size of hardener. mix until hardener no longer shows. use that bit up and keep mixing small batches. this allows you to get more layers out of your putty and it won’t ‘kick’ so fast either as long as you use the small amount of hardener. we use this method because we are in hot Florida. we repair boats.
Anyone else really want a vlog where we are introduced to Michael’s family? It would be nice to see and meet everyone from the introduction properly! Your videos are lovely, particularly the gardeners cottage and parts with Ernest! 🙂

Really enjoyed the look around the chapel. Paint the cottage door for sure. It will protect and give many many more years. Ryan makes me laugh.
Enchanting opener. And yet, there's nothing as exciting as hearing your happily-ever-welcome theme song, thankyou!!
Great video, as always, Micheal!
I can't WAIT to see that gorgeous old door completed
Much Love, from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦...Keli💖
I still can't get over how long the videos are but how short they feel hahaha. I think these videos are too entertaining
How nice Miss Beautiful made an appearance! And again! 😘🥰
The music is so perfect with the scenery!
as if your videos could get better! this is really like a TV show!
Lovely! You deliver the facts and stories very well.your channel is growing day by day!Yay.. well done x
Father petherick is my favorite!!! Gotta love him

Anyone else really want a vlog where we are introduced to Michael’s family? It would be nice to see and meet everyone from the introduction properly! Your videos are lovely, particularly the gardeners cottage and parts with Ernest! 🙂
Michael, I so enjoy watching the start on your Beatrix cottage..and your humour..above all..and you as detective. Teak door? That's classy.
