The 218 frame has a few issues 1. The inner bolt can rub against the spindler especially when standing up in the saddle and this needs to be ground down. 2. If your cable housing is run in the down tube, it can have some slack & rub against the top of the spindle 3. The BB has an issue where the insert can delaminate from the frame & spin around somewhat freely. I have had this happen & it makes a creaking or wheezing sound when standing up to pedal a.The solution to this is to remove the crank & turn bike upside down and keep the outboard cup on. You wont be able to remove this anyway if its torqued at 35Nm, because now the whole thing will spin b.Make a very tiny hole 1mm or less near bottom cover right over the insert till it reaches the steel/aluminum insert. DO NOT drill through c,Take a medical syringe with a very fine needle point & inject in ParkTool RC-1 (retaining compound) & slowly turn outboard cup. Be very careful with this, so it does not leak all over d.Make sure inner threads are still clear/clean & let the frame sit for 48 hours e.Test cup & make sure it it solid f.Reassemble crank & ride slowly. This fix will work & you don't need to cut the frame in 1/2 or do anything drastic to it.
The bike is not going too far with a broken hub :( Hopefully I have all the replacement part and will be videoing soon. I decide the keep the BB as it more or less "nice to have" it fixed but it doesn't really impact the ride quality that much overall.
