The Disney store one looks uncanny. While better than previous live action dolls from them, the realistic face on the exaggerated doll proportions looks so off. I love the stylization on the Mattel one. Looks like Halle without looking creepy.
They honestly should just go stylized ALL THE TIME. It also works less with realistic faces because the features will be too small especially the eyes. And I feel like you have to think of the faces of a dolls in the same way you do stage make up, you need to project the emotions of the dolls face largely, especially in the eyes.
i think mattel is really good at finding a balance between cartoony stylism and actually capturing the person's likeness when they make celebrity sculpts. the mattel sculpt really reads as halle but with more doll-like stylizations. she's super cute.
the disney doll eye shape is what makes it look less like halle because halle has a longer inner corner of the eyes that the mattel one managed to capture in a cartoon ver in comparison, i just remembered hextian did a kind of realistic repaint of halle too and he got her eyes perfectly
I prefer the budget face a lot more! Captures Halle beautifully!!!! 💚❤️💚❤️ The Disney stores version looks a bit like Wanda Sykes! I absolutely love that for custom but I feel like it’s another miss like when they made Emma Watson Belle doll look like Justin Bieber! 😭
yeah also how does a mermaid maintain eyeliner and eyeshadow. I know it's a simple little thing, but it still makes me laugh when I look at her in doll form with WHITE eyes shadow.
I really like the Mattel tail too, which surprises me. I might buy the doll just because of that. It's such a pretty piece of design and sculpting. I know Angel Kent worked on this line, so I assume that was his design. He definitely is a mermaid whisperer.
I really don’t understand why Mattel insists on using the pixelated UV screenings on dolls :( It’s such a deal breaker for me, and i just wonder what happens during production and how they decide what dolls are the unlucky few that get pixelated and which ones don’t, i hope one day they’ll quit using this method, although it seems unlikely
I feel the same way, but I think they are heading towards having them all UV. I haven't seen this Ariel in person, but I think maybe the technology has improved a bit. The Black Widow doll from a few years ago seemed to be worse, which really annoyed me because I paid almost $100 for her in Canada. I do think it's strange that Ariel seems to have worse pixelation than her sisters in the set. Maybe it's because she is higher in production numbers, so there is more of a cost savings.
Disney store LOVES polypropylene, they even do it for the LE dolls a lot of the time (except for cartoon Ariel, who has had nylon on every doll since about 2007-everyone else shifts between nylon and poly on a case-by-case basis, a lot of the LE and Designer dolls for other characters have poly like 85% of the time). I think the only time DS has used saran was with the 2006-07 Swimming Ariel doll, who for some inexplicable reason had saran despite every other DS Ariel having nylon that year. I think she came out right before they switched to the bright red nylon they use on Ariel now, so perhaps they were still testing out different hair types for her since the previous Ariel dolls had really really light ginger hair and didn't get the bright red nylon until immediately after the swimming doll came out lol
@@iamsoverybored878 Sadly true! In a couple of years, a LOT of Designer and LE dolls are going to have their hair degrading and falling out in the box- basically anyone with brunette or blonde hair with the exception of a handful
@Serena That's why I've been buying older collector dolls lately. Better quality and price. One of the dolls I just recently purchased is one of my favorites. I just washed the hair of a boxed Barbie that's 40 years old it took forever to get the tangles out. So even back then, they used not so good quality hair.
The way that the cheaper one is WAY better imo. She’s so pretty and actually does Halle justice. The Disney store one is a bit strange to me but I generally don’t love toothy grins on dolls anyways. Mattel for the win this time!
I love how the Disney store doll sings, has fabric tails and tops on, comes with an additional beautiful dress, boots, and headband, her face paint isn't pixelated...I mean that's pretty fantastic, and I love the playability of that. However, I think despite all the limitations of the Mattel doll, they did a fabulous face sculpt, and the Disney store one just feels uncanny unfortunately. So to me, the perfect doll would be a cross between these two.
I feel like the eyes are too far apart on the Disney store doll. The tail could have had a more drastic color shift to it and made the white lines way thinner. Does her top fit over the Mattel doll’s? Which doll were you talking about at the end? That you think is gonna be the best one?
The eyes ARE too far apart on the Disney doll. Way too far. The guide for doing human faces in portraits is, one eye width in between the two actual eyes. Those are the general dimensions for the human face. Even allowing for the stylized look of a doll, the huge gap between the eyes is the first thing I noticed.
@@ArkadyKirsanov I wish they would fix it lol I’m surprised they let Mattel outdo them on this doll. I’m very interested in the LE Disney doll but I bet she has the same face with the same problem
I actually can’t wait for more Mattel versions to come out if her arms and tale could bend so she can sit then I’d throw my non existent money at them. I pray when new versions of the dolls come out they paint both sides of the tail, and that they fix the lines issue, but I’m almost hope they don’t change the face even with paint flaws because it’s so pretty. The budget doll is not only great for little kids, but great for younger collectors and collectors on a budget, it’s also great for collectors who prefer the toy versions of dolls. As for the Disney doll I love her too but I thought I’d love her more, Disney you have lots of money throw some more into your dolls. All the doll has going for it is the possibility though I love the second outfit.
The Disney store dolls always look so creepy and not even close to the actresses. I recently bought a Cinderella live action doll to make a ooak because I needed a blonde doll brown eyes (not confident enough to repaint yet rip) and the disney doll looks so odd and ugly! The mattel one which was supposed to be the playline and less expensive it's prettier and actually kind of looks like the actress. The Mattel Ariel is the prettiest as well. I'd like her to not have a molded top but I've seen people swap her head into a MTM body and she's gorgeous 🥰
man, they should be selling the sisters separately and not force people to buy the 7 pack for $100. Yes when you break down the price you are saving about $5 per doll. However, Disney shouldn't force people to spend that much just because they maybe like one or two of the sisters' . Throwing down $100 for plastic toys is ridiculous when the movie isn't even out yet. It's just stupid. Disney wasn't always like this back in the 90s and early 2000s
Is there any way you could detach the tail again from the doll (mattel) I would like to add organza ruffles on the tail then attach it again I did not know that once you snap it it won’t come off again 😢
I think they are both beautiful and they look so much like Halle Bailey. Me personally, I feel like the doll with the 2 different outfits look a lot more like Halle while the other doll looks Halle-ish in doll form. I would get the doll that comes in 2 outfits, because they actually give the doll legs just in case I want to dress her up as Halle Bailey herself and switch the hair up if I wanted to.
I have the mattel doll. I feel like it looks more like Halle by both are pretty. I really prefer the mattel tail. The sister collection is scheduled to arrive today im super excited to see her fabric tail and it bends at the "knee" too so itll move better!!!
The Mattel dress doll wasn't promoted much so I also preordered the mermaid version, I will headswap her to the soccer player and swallow my disappointment at missing out on the dress. As someone who has a mermaid tail and is working to become a professional mermaid I just love her. While the only thing I like about the Disney store one is her articulation and the second outfit. Her tail is also really pretty but I prefer the fluke on the Mattel one.
I think the printed fabric tail would be better if they started the scales larger at top and then made them get smaller toward the tip. Instead of it all being uniform and the same size. It makes it look lazier. And also added a bit more of those colors similar to the Mattel tail too.
dolls with a battery now normally have the batteries in one of the thighs, that might be the reason why there's not a twist joint there if the battery compartment is in the back/torso then idk why they would've skipped out on that joint besides production costs 😔
A lot of dolls with poly hair have their hair become completely brittle and just kinda… turn to dust over time. It’s a huge issue with vintage dolls :( there’s also studies on the material polypropylene (it’s just a grade of plastic) that backs this up. Sunlight for sure causes it to degrade but it seems other things must do it as well as we’ve seen in the doll world
Having both the Disney and Mattel Deluxe, in person I like the Disney one much more. Her hair has different shades and I like how the locks are not "stuck on top" of her hair. And her face looks so good. The Mattel one for me is just a little too cartoonish. I agree the Disney doll eyes could be slightly better, but it still prefer it.
The Disney store one looks uncanny. While better than previous live action dolls from them, the realistic face on the exaggerated doll proportions looks so off. I love the stylization on the Mattel one. Looks like Halle without looking creepy.

As someone who has a mermaid tail and is working to become a professional mermaid I just love her. While the only thing I like about the Disney store one is her articulation and the second outfit. Her tail is also really pretty but I prefer the fluke on the Mattel one.
They made Belle, Ariel, Jasmine, Aurora and Cinderella live action
I love both dolls!
Love them both🥰🧜🏻♀️🧜🏽♀️💋💕🤘🏻🧚🏻♀️
the singing one looks more like a person. the other looks animated
I think the printed fabric tail would be better if they started the scales larger at top and then made them get smaller toward the tip. Instead of it all being uniform and the same size. It makes it look lazier. And also added a bit more of those colors similar to the Mattel tail too.
Tinker bell is now live auto-induction
dolls with a battery now normally have the batteries in one of the thighs, that might be the reason why there's not a twist joint there
if the battery compartment is in the back/torso then idk why they would've skipped out on that joint besides production costs 😔
omg you should swap bodies 😍
Poly DISINTEGRATES ?! What exactly do you mean
A lot of dolls with poly hair have their hair become completely brittle and just kinda… turn to dust over time. It’s a huge issue with vintage dolls :( there’s also studies on the material polypropylene (it’s just a grade of plastic) that backs this up. Sunlight for sure causes it to degrade but it seems other things must do it as well as we’ve seen in the doll world
@@xCanadensis as in pieces of hair are just gone ?
Having both the Disney and Mattel Deluxe, in person I like the Disney one much more. Her hair has different shades and I like how the locks are not "stuck on top" of her hair. And her face looks so good. The Mattel one for me is just a little too cartoonish. I agree the Disney doll eyes could be slightly better, but it still prefer it.
Five princesses
I think the Mermaid outfit would look good on RH doll Margo if it fits.
Love The Mattel One Better!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

In Ireland she's 38 euro
1:04 - Retails for $35.
They made her face too long. Halle has a heart shaped face.
I love love love the Disney store one but the Mattel one doesn't look like Halle at all
I prefer the Mattel face better
