We wanted to have some fun with this video, so we went to Rack Room Shoes and purchased this pair of men's Hey Dude shoes. We disassembled parts of these shoes and built them back up with a touch of flair and ruggedness. Now that we can check Hey Dude off of our list, what should we do next??

We just wanted to have some fun this week. We may do more of these “can it be done” videos. What do y’all think?
Do you think something similar could be done with Whites Boots Millwood line? I am disappointed with the longevity of the Vibram crepe soles, but I am satisfied with their comfort.
I love the can it be done video! Actually I think you could probably do these weird shoes like this and resell them or do a giveaway to see how they hold up in use.
Birkenstock re-soles would be interesting. The soles wear through but the footbeds and uppers are still perfect.
Would be cool if for fun videos you guys did a pair of die hards or caterpillar works, just a thought.
I say go for it! Challenging yourself is always good, not to mention great for us to watch!
Ive never in my wildest dreams think id be interested in the making of shoes but ive been watching these guys for a year and they have earned my subscription. Well done boys you are craftsmen!
Thank you sir.
@@TrentonHeath I have a pair of sperries like these that my wife tattooed for me years ago the sole disintegrated over time of me wearing them. She can no longer tattoo she broke her lower back in a car wreck and can’t sit longer then 20 to 30 minutes at a time. I was wondering if you could resole them like this.
@@Justthemow oof
@@fordguyjames I don’t understand oof
@@Justthemow i ment your wife
Those shoes are actually really comfortable, they are mostly made from recycled materials but you can also send then back when they are used and they will recycle them and give you 20% of your next pair,
They are amazing for travelling. Ultra light comfortable, shoes, trainers and slippers in one. Very easy on your feet. Love them.
I want to know the before and after weight of the shoe. One thing I love about hey dudes is how light they are. I think the vibram sole would add too much weight for my liking.
I bought my first pair of Hey Dudes a couple of months ago and they are comfortable. I would buy those you re-soled in a heart beat! You made them look awesome!
I’ve loved watching you guys grow and try new things, keep it up!!!
I love HEY DUDE shoes, I own around 4-5 pairs at a time! This remodel is by far the coolest and best upgrade ever! Thanks for thinking outside the box!
A couple decades ago my mother would buy tennis shoes then have to have the sole of one shoe built up, a lot, so she could walk straight. She had scoliosis so seeing this brought back some memories.
Once again, you two amaze me with your skills and presentation. I never thought I'd see something like this done.
Yes, I'd buy and wear a pair of these. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Nice upgrade. As a fun diy whim a while back i also did this to my Native Miles eva shoes when its eva sole wore out. I peeled off the tread of a used car tire and used it as the new outsole. I've used it for years when walking my dog and i just repair it when it starts to delaminate in places, usually the front. Good day and God bless. Cheers!
I used to wear the 70's crepe soul dessert boots from Kenny's Shoe store until you could no longer find them. Most comfortable shoe I ever wore and great for roofing on sheet iron. They really stuck. My son bought me a pair of Hey dudes in that same shoe. Very comfortable but not a everyday shoe by any means.
These shoes go for under ten US dollars out here. Mostly made in Vietnam. Very comfortable.
I absolutely love my Hey dude shoes. Most Comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned. I do like how you guys made them different and put some meat on them! I’d be curious how comfortable and light they are! Awesome vid guys
Loved the blue wedge! And the chunky Vibrams are ridiculous! 😂 It's awesome! Well done, guys! 😊
Those 'Hey Dude' shoes are constructed/built like nice house slippers. Originally, they must be pretty comfortable, but probably don't last long when used as regular day-to-day shoes. What an interesting and nice project. [this video sort of reminds me of Nick's rebuilding that pair of Doc Martens--taking a well-known product to an entirely different level]
They last as long as it’s just a day to day show and not a work shoe, if you’re just walking a moderate amount and don’t literally abuse these things they last. I know people who wear them almost daily and they’re lasting 3 years so far
@KDlGG ....we'll see. People rave about them, and I just ordered my 1st pair of them. I have to see for myself!
I could see someone eventually stepping right out of these as they fell apart because the weakness of the shoes couldn't compete with the strength of the vibram soles.
Actually these shoes hold up a long time and are very comfortable. I have several pair with the oldest pair being 3 years old. They have a simple construction but are constructed well.
Many years ago, I once had a pair of desert boot type shoes. They were very nice and comfortable, soft with a smooth leather outer. I really loved those shoes! But I wore the sole out on them and thought I'd have to throw them out. Then one day, I came across a little shoe repair shop and asked if they could be resoled using a heavy duty Vibram sole. He said yes, but when I got tjem back, I was so disappointed! I hadn't considered that the design of the upper was unsuitable for the very heavy Vibrams that I had requested. The shoes were not confortable, and the lacing system of desert boots never provided the type of support for the weight of the sole. I really could not wear them and ended up throwing them out afterall.
Big up to a dad that made 2 of you a normal folks :) Love your videos, and now I'm leaning something new that I never thought I could do. Keep your videos coming. Thanks guys, now i need to brush up on the actual shoe history. Did restore a couple of shoes myself, thanks to your videos, and got more enjoyment from the process of doing it instead of buying a new shoes that are plastic.
That’s awesome! We appreciate it.
Congrats on the Southern Living magazine, y’all! This was a fun build!
Very cool. I'm learning how to make shoes in this style with leather by hand. Do either of you have any recommendations on how I should design the sole to make it better to resole?
I have 4 pair of Hey Dude shoes. Other than my cowboy boots, these are the most comfortable shoes I own. Cushioned insoles can be replaced. They can be washed. They are awesome. Don't knock them until you've tried them.
This was an awesome project! Thank you for the upload.
I never heard of these shoes until January of this year when my son was talking about them. They are really popular over here in Hickman County, TN with the kids. I see a few adults wearing them. My kids love them and rave about how comfortable they are. I reluctantly tried a pair on in the store and didn't think they were all that comfy or good looking. They're just not my style.
LOL
Every white male 55 and under who wants to try to act like they are 21 are wearing them.....especially at the travel ball games, grocery store and lake. Not me.... signed 51 and No Dudes.
Ok that was crazy! Love to see the creativity. BTW - thanks for the work on my AE longwings, turned out very nice!
I love this. I wear Sanucks and would love to have this done to them!
Most entertaining video you guys have made in a while. Hilarious!
I’m a proud owner of 2 pairs of your sandals from your former storefront in Brentwood TN. Though I prefer Allbirds shoes, I was gifted a pair of Hey Dude slip ons recently. I’d definitely buy a pair done YOUR way. 👍. Thanks for sharing your fascinating restorations with 🥾 lovers everywhere.
I've owned numerous pairs of these shoes. They are popular where I live as well. Light, comfortable and I love em!
They're popular everywhere.
They are a bit gay..
They look like they are good for 3 months wear and into the trashcan.
@@dmac7403 I wouldn't say everywhere, I have never seen them where I live.
@@MrTarfu Where's that another country ? they're everywhere in the u.s.
This channel showed up in my feed this week, and I'm hooked! This is amazing.
Not only do I not own a pair of these myself, I don't recall ever seeing them before (when I go to Rack Room, which I do occasionally, it's for sneakers; thus, I may have never seen them. But I'll certainly look for them next time I'm there). I do understand and appreciate that you guys try things that no other shoemakers I know of would try. But that's one of the things I love about your videos: pushing the limits of what's possible in shoe repairing.
Here I was thinking my Hey Dudes were disposable.🤣 They are super comfortable quick slip on shoes. Those vibrams do take the to another level. Yes I would buy the more substantial version. They are the 2022 version of the boat shoes I used to were all summer with shorts.
Can you lower a heel on a pair of cowboy boots? I have a pair of ARIAT boots, and the heels seem too high and hurt my feet, also I didn't realize when I bought them 1 is wider than the other can that be fixed also???
Different and interesting, nice change from the usual focus. Congratulations for appearing in Southern Living 👏🏼
Very cool take on hey dudes! I personally love them as shoe to commute to work where I leave my work boots.
You guys hooked these dudes up with some off road tires! I love it!! I love your guys videos, keep up the awesome work. Also hello from Cincy Ohio!
Can you resole a pair with a half inch squared off work boot sole? How much would you charge?
Great work. Who would have thought that cheap shoes like these could be upgraded so easily (comparatively speaking). It would probably have cost hey dude an extra 20 dollars to upgrade their design to something resole-able with a vibram sole or a moc sole for those who want comfort.
That was a really cool transformation, I liked it a lot.
I have three pairs of these, they’re soooo comfy, like wearing slippers outside!
That’s exactly how I describe them..
I want to buy those! I love my hey dudes, you just perfected my favorite comfy shoes
It looks like you two had a great learning experience working on these shoes. As a craftsman, you can explore different things and thanks for sharing this video. As for me, I wear boat shoes during the winter and sandals during the summer. Why not repair some sandals?
I own multiple pairs of Hey Dudes and would definitely buy these, especially for when I’m out fishing or camping .
Most be very comfy! Melikey! Awesome job!!!😃👍
The design of the uppers reminds me of Clark Wallabee shoes. I've seen a tooled leather panel added to the vamp to dress these up. You have invented hiking slippers!
"Hiking slippers". Captures it nicely. Leave it to T&H to bring impossible footwear to reality!
love The Up Grade, And What You Did To The Hey Dude Shoes Y'all Are So Talented So Awesome!!
As someone who has great pain when I walk due to arthritis and nerve damage - Hey Dude shoes are invaluable - I discovered them a couple of years ago and have owned several pairs. The big - and I mean BIG downfall about them is that even slightly damp shiny surfaces + Hey Dude shoes = Major fall. Your resolves look like that would not be even the remotest problem. I would love to have a pair like these. Great job boys (from the UK)
It’s strange you say that because I wear mine even in the rain (not intentionally) and my yard turns into an absolute swamp when it rains. I trek through the yard and to work and I’ve never slipped once. I have however taken dives in my crocs many times lol
I don't know that I would buy any but they look comfortable. The question for me would be how long would they actually last? If you can only get one summer out of them and have to pitch them I think I would try to find something that had a little bit more longevity even if the price went up.
Great vid! I was just thinking this as I noticed the soles of my hey dudes are wearing out. Being an Allen Edmonds guy, I wonder how a danite sole would work.
Those look pretty damn good, id probably buy a pair of those. Look way better than the originals. Nice work!
i like the ones you did compaired to what they looked like before. ps, i'm a leather crafter if you stop your razor cutter it makes it sharper and the blade lasts longer
I wear HeyDudes on my lazy days. Don’t have to worry about shoe trees and getting them scuffed/dirty. I would love to have a pair like that. The tread wears off rather fast.
Only two-and-half minutes in and feeling like this is April.Fool's Day in August, but I am already REALLY digging this one!!!
Love what you did! Definitely would wear those.
What an absolutely ridiculous and stupid upgrade. I love it. Please do more of this. This is quality content.
This is so funny! Did y’all try them on in stock form and in their upgraded form? I’m a boot guy 24/7 365. But, I use a pair of hey dudes like these for house shoes.
How much would it be hypothetically after your Resole?
I would absolutely want a pair of those custom hey dudes
What kind of glue do you use?
They came out very well!
Wow that was amazing! I would wear the after!!!
Fantastic, very creative!
Thanks
This was pretty neat to watch. What do y'all do with the project shoes typically?
I would no joke wear these lol
Are the upgraded shoes wearable and comfortable?
wow that was unexpected haha
I love the blue foam you put in.
I would buy your version. I like the added foam for a little lift and comfort.
Kinda cool. I like seeing how things work -just for curiosity's sake. Well done. I appreciate your analysis "should it be done?" ;-)
Awesome job! I’ll take them. 😎
Now THAT is a pair of hey dudes I'd be proud to wear!
Have quite a few pairs of Hey Dudes. Super comfortable summer time shoes
How do you tighten the laces?
What color of Saphir conditioner did you use? And How much do they weight now with those soles. I love my Hey Dudes but for the price i will just buy another pair. Great vid, keep up your awesomeness guys !!!
Ya def like the addition of this type of video
I wonder if the Vibram sole flexes since they are a slip on? Would they be too stiff to bend as you walk? I love the look though. If they were a size 9, I'd rock them and report back! Keep up the videos. I own a pair of the Southern Polished sandals. They are amazing and love the quality.
What is the best glue for tennis shoe repair? Rubber sole seperating from foam. New shoes!
Great job,very entertaining video,amazing..!
honestly, I never have wanted a pair until now can yall get these made? also would have been different to see yall replace the insole and build out from there for endless possibilities. keep up the great videos!!!
Sanuk makes a shoe very similar to this. The problem is that the fabric uppers wear out before before the soles. Especially where the upper meets the sole at the flex points.
Beautiful job, class, smart and select
I live in SC, and I've never heard of them. I wouldn't buy them as-is, but I would with y'all's additions. That Vibram sole would probably help them last a lot longer.
Great summer shoes, I’m a hey dude fan.
Those look really good. Yes I would buy them.
Great job guys how much are you selling those Hey Dude’s for they look good
I wear them on my boat and they are very comfortable. Congratulations, you took a shoe that feel like a sock into a sock that feels like a shoe. 🤣
Haha…this video was all about just having fun and being entertaining.
Would be cool to see some air Jordan 1’s from the 80’s repaired
Great vid as usual. Here in CenTex, they are also very popular. I'm a little bit disappointed that you didn't wear them at all. If you had, you'd know that all people, both men and women wear them for funky looking comfort, emphasis on comfort. My wife has two pair...Says they're the most comfortable things she's ever worn.
Would you make a pair of those to buy like me size 11
I'm not a Hey Dude kinda guy, but you guys made a interesting pair of shoes. I love the choice of materials you used.
These are super comfortable, great for in the car on a long trip because you can just slip them off and on really easy. Don't expect them to last forever, but they are great.
Been watching this channel for quite a while and these guys are awesome. Would be cool to visit their shop. 2 of my kids and their families live in the Nashville area
so now that vibram outsole's gonna last twice as long as the upper😄
but I love the way they look after the upgrade
May I know the kind of gum you use
I love Hey Dudes I own at least 30 pair…These were awesome! Are they available?
I had a pair for about a month I’m a size 12 but bought a 13 because I wanted to slip them on and off. They were to small my toe hurt after wearing them. I ended up trashing them.
Will it blend? Redux as Will it resole?
Hah, this was neat!
Great job transforming the ordinary to extra special. Kinda like lettuce, tomato and that special sauce turn a plain hamburger into a deluxe.
And just realized Heath shaved!
Great weekend, sirs, see ya! 👍
I have a pair. after wearing them for a day my feet are sore from no support.
Great to watch a fairly inexpensive shoe made just that much better!
Nice job and a fun thought. The black Vibram sole didn't do it for me though.
If y'all made these and added a steel toe, y'all'd have every ol' boy in the south working in these things haha Great video fellas!
Those are awesome!
Love these remakes...I would buy these!!!
