Consistency is king. Yet it is what most people learning to code struggle with.
Truth be told, I wasn’t always a productive person.
    Tiktok, Instagram, Tinde..(krhm)
I’m just as familiar with these distractions as you are.
From school to university to teaching myself to code, no matter how many timetables I set for myself, or how many plans I made, eventually all of them ended up being scrapped.
So last year when I got to the point when I was teaching myself to code, working a part-time job, and making UA-cam videos all at the same time, I figured that this was finally the time to learn to manage my time.
I remember when I started teaching myself to code exactly 537 days ago when I’m recording this, I saw all those videos “how I learned to code in 6 months”, I was like wow that guy must be so smart, or he must have just spent literally 16 hours per day working, I could never do that.

I think the title of your video is literally the problem for most people. How many people are actually willing to commit themselves fully to something for 537 days straight? Probably not that many because, for some reason, everyone thinks success or being good at something just happens or comes overnight for some reason. Discipline and focus are single handedly the most important things if you want to become successful. Yes you have to work hard as well, but if you just focus when you're supposed to focus and not get distracted by all sorts of nonsense in general (partying, etc.) you'll be able to do what you want and still have time for other things. Maybe not as much, but still. Be very selective about what you spend your time on. Great video btw.

I would like to speak on behalf of neurodivergent people, discipline and focus is a lot harder thank you think.
Most people quit at the dip, not necessarily because they get bored or distracted from the thing they are doing, but it becomes impossible to commit more discipline and focus to their task due to their hyperfocus shifting to something else. I speak from experience when I say that hyperfocus is both a blessing and a curse. While it can make you work on something very effectively, it's very selective and you can't really control it on your own.
Neurodiversity and its associated disorders, like OCD, ADHD, autism and so on, can make learning either extremely easy or nigh impossible. It's not just a matter of "stay disciplined LMAO", it's like telling a person without legs to just "run". Worst part of all this, psychological medicine still doesn't fully cover and treat the whole spectrum of neurodiversity because mental health has only recently started getting more attention, about 6 years ago it was very difficult for someone to get a proper diagnosis and help.
I am learning web-development myself and I can tell you now that the method of "time-blocking" is extremely difficult for me and believe me I tried to adhere to this method for 2 weeks until it started breaking down on its own.
It's a great video don't get me wrong, I agree with most of the things said here, especially the task organising, that is very effective and allows for a lot of flexibility and I know that everything mentioned here is to be taken with a grain of salt.
But your comment disregards people of neurodivergence who struggle with learning because their brain is just not wired in a "typical" way and I wish I could say "Oh we just think that to have an excuse", but the matter of fact is that even if I tell myself I will sit down and do coding for 2 hours now, my brain LITERALLY does everything in its power subconsciously to make me defocused. I wish I could explain this feeling better but it is annoying and while I know it, I can't willingly stop it.

This video is like a godsend because I've been learning to code for almost a year now but I struggle so much with being consistent with my coding hours in my schedule. I would do exactly what you did and make a strict schedule but it was so hard to replicate it everyday. Hearing from your honest experiences and knowing that you also struggled to be productive makes me feel so much better that I'm not the only one struggling plus the end of the video was so extremely helpful because now I know that I should aim to fit 2-3 coding hours everyday and to have a more flexible schedule centered around the most important tasks as you mentioned - This really makes more sense to me now and I just really needed to hear this especially from you 😇

Great video and I do agree ! But I would love to seek advice from your point of view as someone who want to achieve more. I'm currently Year 2 semester 1 as a full-time software engineering student. But I'm eager to learn, do you think its manageable to work in the tech industry as a FT student or should I wait for semester break and go for an internship. Sure, I can learn a lot by myself, but I think the true process begin on the work field!

First off just wanted to say I absolutely LOVE your channel!
Just wanted to ask you and everyone else : How do you guys deal with getting stuck?
I'm taking Cs50 and I'm 2 months into learning to code.
I find myself getting stuck for an hour running through options of a code that would work which turns my brain to mush.
Would you consider that part of the "block"?

Anxiety is through the roof. And I am feeling like I would never be able to be a programmer. Just out of my league.

    The short answer?
Do the work instead of doing something else. It's a simple decision.
If you can't make that decision, you don't actually want it, nor do you deserve it- and as a result, you won't achieve it. Cut the excuses, cut the slack, cut the bullshit and DO. THE. WORK.
Elaboration: (If you "can't" you either lack proper framing as to why it's important enough for you to prioritize, are trying to fit in/appease the crowd and don't actually desire said thing, or- you're delusional and naive and think you're so special and significant that success is just something the universe owes you. All of which will throttle your ability to put in the required effort to actually get to said endpoint.)
To move forward, all one must do is take a step. Your refusal just limits YOU to where you currently are; no matter your "condition", affluence or upbringing- there's always someone who has it worse, makes less excuses for themselves AND is working harder than you. No one else gives a single fuck if you achieve your goals nor is it up to them to. No amount of pleading or excuse making is going to do anything to benefit your situation or propel you any further.
If you truly desire something you'll do the work; if you "can't"- quit lying to yourself about what you claim to want. It's literally not hard to do something for 537 days straight- the modern human is just feeble. Get out of your own way.
Also, it's not about motivation. Motivation is what you need in order to do something you don't want to do. If you need motivation, find a better goal.
