Black Orchid has always been marketed to women. When I went to sample it at Nordstrom the Tom Ford rep wanted to make sure I was aware of that. A man can carry it off, but that’s not the intended audience. The parfum version is the first one Fragrantica claims is unisex. I like the EDP ok, but never sprung for a bottle. I’m kinda eager to try this one out.
When it first came out, they marketed it as a women's fragrance. TF's company took note that more men were buying it for themselves, so they started selling it in the men's fragrance section, also. Now, they say it is unisex.
I love the original black orchid and just bought the parfum. I could be wrong but I prefer the original..there's something in it that gives it a little more flare or maybe I need to try the gold bottle more frequently

Nice Video! In my opinion "Black Orchid" is the last fragrance that needs a stronger version. The new version is stronger but sits closer on my skin somehow. Im with you with the bottle. I adore the black packaging.
Years ago, anything classified as a *parfum* had amazing sillage. It could be smelled in a room 10 minutes after the individual left. What kind of sillage does this have?
I love them both! There’s something irreplaceable about the original but I find that the amped up plum makes it worthy for me. My only complaint is that the parfum doesn’t really project much (at least one me). They’re both amazing, I have both 😊
Orchid soleil smells nice on me too and it is also one of my faves. Sad that it is discontinued. I managed to buy a full 100ml back up. The store here in the Philippines where I buy still has two 50ml stocks and I am saving up so I can buy it too! Hopefully no one gets it before I do.

You’re right about the bottle being black on EDP. On the PARFUM, they could’ve added a detailed design and kept it black. Always a pleasure, informative and honest review.
Hi there how are you great video I totally agree with you about beast mode I wish a lot more people understood that not everbody wants to smell so strong that it overtakes everything else in the room there are other people in this world you know I have family members who are very allergic to strong smells and get headache and cannot stop sneezing and I feel really bad at a function where i cannot go near them so I always have to adjust what fragrance I wear therefore I do appreciate fragrances that everyone can wear and enjoy you don't have to overtake the world just enjoy your fragrance for your own pleasure and just enough for others too
jay jay completely agree 👍 I work in a sensible environment, in a hospital with direct patient contact. Beast fragrances are not an option in those king of environments. Also, I've met a lot of men who tend to prefer beast mode perfumes; don't know why but way more than women. My exchanges with some of them make me associate those perfumes with not the best personality (attention-seeking, quite egocentric). totally personal and biased but some popular beast mode perfumes are sadly ruined for me. Now, I've come to appreciate more subtle skin close fragrances that encourage intimacy. There are so many variables regarding what to wear: personal taste, place, people you will interact with, how you're feeling that particular day... Thankfully there are options for everyone!
I've been waiting for this good new for a long time! I love Tom Ford and his fragrances...they express emotions and originality! then when I heard at the beginning of the video stronger than the black orchid I was shocked 🤣in my country of origin (Bulgaria) there is a very powerful alcoholic drink made from plums (rakia). I will be curious to see if I perceive a similar notes😉😀 can't wait to buy it and hope it will be here in Italy soon! as always your videos are exhaustive and interesting, thank you!
Great video. My friend is a big fan of Black Orchid and got both. She said the new one is kind of redundant😃 I haven’t got a bottle since I’ve never felt love towards the scent. Maybe I’ll change my mind one day.
I love TFBO EDP for its earthiness which gives it a more masculine vibe but I think if it was sweeter and stronger like this parfum version , it would feel much more feminine to me .... Not having smelt it yet, but it may be a pass for me for that reason :-I

I surely hope that I like this one! I love PLUM I gave my son both Black Orchid and Velvet Orchid. They smell GREAT on him! I wore the Heck out of Hypnotic Poison back in the day!!! Love Plum Japonais...Bond No.9’s Andy Warhol is supposedly soooool good. But I’ll never know. Since it’s dc’d. Some of you guys try it and let us know... I hope, you all give the 👍🏾 up, because ain’t blind buying this one🤣
I feel this purchase would be extraneous ...the orig is fine as it its......its not lacking in performance and Im sure that "others" wouldnt be able to tell the difference in terms of sillage/etc.....so the orig works perfectly..if its not 'broke" as they say...I expect TF to do originals for the price he asks..period

I did not fall in love in it, after sniffing it unfortunately. Black orchid is too 'mature' charateristic for my liking... But thanks for your review, insightful as always😀

The parfum version is just a marketing move i guess. You pay more and get a little bit less( but a golden bottle lol). It is a very good perfume but the original Edp is superior and also cheaper!

Hi, I just purchased the original and it's too masculine smelling for me. Too much sandalwood type notes. Is there a way to fix it by mixing something? I'm stuck with it :(

I don’t want to wear a fragrance today and then tomorrow you know that I wore it yesterday because it’s sooooooo strong and lingers over 24 hrs. The parfum is such an absolute train wreck at the opening. It smells so messy compared to the edp.... HOWEVER..... after some hours the parfum smells SO MUCH better then the edp

I’m really enjoying the new Parfum version! Great review! I love the plum note in the new one I think the scent is smoother and more vanilla also.
