  • FISHING THE SNOOK SPAWN IN FLORIDA WITH LIVE CROAKERS //
    On this special episode of Abenz Fishing I went out snook fishing for two days with live croakers during the snook spawn. Snook fishing in Florida lights up every summer as the fish begin their spawn migration, they school up and the big girls come out.
    For a long time anglers have said that the best live bait for catching giant snook are live croakers, we tested that theory by fishing HARD and it was an amazing few days with some giant snook. From dock fishing, to beach fishing, we did it all.

    Dude, this was an awesome video. I like how you added cinematography the entire vibe of the video. I couldn’t agree more about fishing heavy for some of these fish. A lot of times I would see guys fishing 3000 size reels nearly getting spoile in that fish mouth.d, and all that line is stuck in the ocean and a hook is stuck in the fishes mouth. Good on what you do and what you preach.

    I wonder if it’s the same theory up north, I’m a northern striper guy that moved to Florida but still goes up north for the summers to chase stripers and tuna, the stripers on Long Island cannot resist spot which is some sort of croaker, there 5 bucks a piece to buy , which makes an expensive day if you have blues and fluke chomping on your spots, I sometimes run into Brooklyn to catch spots on sabikis, I wonder if the spot feed on striper eggs the same way as snook.

    • @alexanderren1097
      @alexanderren1097 3 місяці тому

      It’s a made up story. Stripers and Snook are both broadcast spawners. A big female can release 100,000 eggs that almost immediately get swept off with the current. Both species don’t know and don’t care what happens to their eggs.
      As for what eats them, anything that filter feeds or eats plankton will be eating their eggs along with whatever else is floating in the water. Croakers and Spot mainly eat invertebrates on the bottom so they’re not even going to be eating many Snook or Striper eggs

    old wives tale for sure. these fish are not vindictive, and do not protect their eggs like some fish and other animals. the eggs of gamefish are probably on the menu for all sorts of bait species. that's the circle of life. bait is bait; if it's small enough and fits down the throat of a toothless fish it's getting swallowed whole.

    • @AbenzFishing
      @AbenzFishing  3 місяці тому +1

      @@Peter-zg3em thanks for the information, I agree. I think that snook are more reactive towards any bait that comes near them when they’re pre-spawn/spawn. They still have windows where they won’t eat a thing too.

    • @Peter-zg3em
      @Peter-zg3em 3 місяці тому

      @@AbenzFishing the fishing will always depend on different variables, i was only speaking on the idea that gamefish target certain bait to protec their eggs. in reality these fish are depositing eggs and never seeing them again. it's just a wives tail that the stripers target eels because they kill striper eggs, etc. they eat opportunistically and based on a bunch of factors, revenge or protecting eggs isn't one of them.

    • @AbenzFishing
      @AbenzFishing  3 місяці тому +1

      @@Peter-zg3em I agree - although I do think pre-spawn fish have a more instinctive bite because they know they have row, not necessarily protecting the eggs, but more aware they have them.
