  • 318 curves in 11 miles, and I loved each and every one of them!
    It was great weather on a Monday morning, with amazingly NO traffic!
    This motorcycle is a 2019 Honda Goldwing DCT. It was ridden in Manual Sport mode.

    This is probably the best video I have ever seen with a Goldwing DCT. I spend as much time as I can up in the mountains on my 2021 Goldwing DCT after putting 35k on a 2018 Heritage 114 up there. I can sit like a football coach and explain everything you are doing. So now I have something to show why I moved to a Goldwing, THANK YOU SO MUCH. But FYI, no bike is perfect and I could almost disagree with that until now. Took a trip up to Maggie Valley and everything was perfect, early May 2022. Coming home 6 days later, I was getting close to a local biker watering hole, so my speed was pretty high. Never felt nothing, but all that is below you is aluminum, so I pulled into Atalla, Alabama and ordered a drink and another biker came in and said hey your bike is leaking oil. It was big time! I was 45 miles from the house, so dropped a ten on the bar and made it home before any warning lights came on. Next morning after watching UA-cam videos and cleaning and still watching oil leak I had something serious. Looked like it was coming from the timing cover, but my local experts said shifter cover, so I get them to show me when I get the bike.
    Seems ppl that like putting on a lot of touring on a Goldwing, put some type of engine guard underneath the bike. That's at the house waiting until I get my bike back. Hands down the 2021 Goldwing is the best Sport/Touring Bike I've ever experienced in my life. Thank you again.

      Thank you! It's definitely a great bike. I'm glad you had a good time in Maggie Valley, the roads are great. I'm sorry to hear about the oil leak -- that sounds awful. I might look into getting that engine guard. I've read about those from other people, but after reading your story, it sounds like a necessary accessory. Thanks for sharing, and good luck to you out there!

    While the dragon is a good ride, the best riding can be found in NW Arkansas. Roads like the dragon are everywhere. With your riding skill you would’ve have a blast because it’s sparsely populated and you will have the twisties all to yourself.

    Very nice riding, great sound and video quality. The upshift seem to be buttery smooth but can hear a little mechanical clunk when downshifting but you were scooting pretty good. Did you feel any of that when it downshift as you were in a corner?

    • @thereshegoes757
      @thereshegoes757  2 роки тому +4

      Thanks, yeah the downshifting can sound a little clunky if you're going too fast for that gear. On a manual bike, I would release the clutch slower for a smoother transition. On the DCT, there seems to be a dampening effect if you apply the rear brake along with downshifting. It's almost like a special kind of "friction zone" -- you would use it also when doing tight u-turns since there's no clutch.

      Interesting thought. I think on a Goldwing, 45mph in 2nd gear has some awfully high RPMs. 3rd gear gives it a faster boost to get up to 45. But I guess it depends on the bike, and rider's preference. Good luck to you, I hope you can get out there and try it. Let me know how you like it.

    Wow.
    Thank you so much for filming that ride. Not something I’m likely to do given that I’m a long way away in England.
    It has a bit of an Isle of Man feel to the road. I was looking at the speedo thinking “its not as fast as it looks…” when I sat back and it dawned on me that if I’d been riding those bends on my 2007 Electra Glide I’d probably have dragged a load of undercarriage and badly frightened myself in the first mile.

    • @thereshegoes757
      @thereshegoes757  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I hope you guys enjoy your trip. I think for general TOD tips, the best advice is to go on a weekday in the morning to avoid traffic. Be very alert of other drivers. Sometimes they cross the yellow line in blind curves. There are places where the road is torn up a bit, and that might affect the path you take through your curve, so watch your speed when entering a curve. Riding UP the TOD is easier (to me) than riding back downhill. If you want photos, photographers set up around 8 or 9:00am and leave at around 5pm. You can visit their websites to buy photos of you on your ride.
      As for the DCT, just "ride your ride". If you're accustomed to riding in Automatic Touring mode, then I really suggest riding the TOD in that same mode. If your normal riding uses Sport mode, beware that it's jumpy in the lower gears, and simply hitting a rock or a pot hole can launch your bike out from under you (and the road is TORN UP in a few places). With the absence of a clutch, you can feather your rear brake while downshifting and applying throttle to help you get through sharp curves.
      It's definitely a challenge -- I think it's a lot of fun. I hope you and your friend enjoy your time there and stay safe.

      I chose the standard because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hold up the bike if it's much heavier. I'm only 5'3" and I tippytoe this Goldwing. BUT if I had to do it all over again, I would have gotten the Tour model with the trunk. It's not that much heavier, and the trunk would be very useful.

      It has the air bag option. Can’t say I’m happy with it. I’d rather have that storage compartment back. Maybe I’ll have a different opinion should I end up torpedoing a car.

    AWESOME riding, I have only been riding a year, Rebel 1100 DCT, love it, eventually looking at the GW DCT for longer rides I am a bit worried about the weight of the bike compared to my stature, 65" tall 29" inseam. Everyone says the bike is manageable just wondering what your experience has been with the GW?
    Thanks

    • @thereshegoes757
      @thereshegoes757  2 роки тому +1

      I'm 5'3" with 29" inseam. I tippy-toe this bike, it's 800 lbs, and that puts a lot of pressure on my ankles when I need to move/park it. I'd suggest going to a dealership & sitting on one to see what you think. Good sturdy boots with thick insoles can help support your feet & ankles. And if you check out a Goldwing forum, you'll hear about ways other folks have lowered their bikes and shaved their seats so they can reach the ground better. • @thereshegoes757
      @thereshegoes757  2 роки тому +1

      @@leafinley6361 hey, yeah the slow speed maneuvers on a DCT take a lot of practice. I learned how to do them on a typical bike with a clutch, so suddenly not having a clutch was a challenge. I have to keep throttle pushing power to the rear wheel, and apply gentle rear brake to create a "friction zone" similar to a clutch. It still just takes a lot of practice. Turn my head, look where I want to go, and try to get there. There's a video series called Ride Like a Pro (and a UA-cam channel too), and they give really good tips.

    • @thereshegoes757
      @thereshegoes757  Рік тому +1

      @thereshegoes757  2 роки тому

      Yeah I rode this in Automatic Sport mode last year. It made me realize that automatic is not useful in dynamic situations. It doesn't know that there's a curve coming up and it needs to downshift, or that I'm coming out of one curve and into a second one, and don't want to upshift yet. So I spent the whole ride manually correcting the Automatic mode. Automatic is great for traffic jams and simple rides, though.
