The whole of Madurai is getting ready for Meenakshi's wedding to Shiva. The city is sparkling clean, decorated with flowers and lamps; the lavish wedding feast is cooked; the priests are performing the sacred fire rituals. As Shiva's procession enters the city with much aplomb, Meenakshi asks her friends to take a look. Her friends return excited, saying that Shiva isn't covered in matted locks and snakes anymore - he has turned up as the handsome 'Sundareswarar' and Meenakshi is immediately curious and shy. As she gazes at Shiva in his wedding attire, she becomes the embodiment of one of the Navarasas - 'Shringaaram'.
