    Great job! My mother in law is a hoarder and she never conquered it. She is now in a home for the elderly and her children had to get rid of all her hoard. It was all very overwhelming. I am glad that you are giving your children a different legacy.

    Yes! You can make it. I grew up in a level 2-3 hoarded house but 7 years ago I decided to decluter the part of my bedroom (I shared it with my sister) and break free from all the bad feelings that it made me feel. Now, I'm a minimalist but I struggle with some sentimental things that I really don't want to keep because of the size and space they require but at the same time bring me so much joy. I don't think that pictures will capture what they mean to me. If I would decide to let them go, I doubt that I will keep the picture in a special place to loom at it. I would simply look it up in my memories. My other issue is that I really care about natural resources and extending the use life of stuff. So, whenever boxes, bags and paper gets inyo my house it means a great issue of finding the best use for them. My first option is to ask people if they need any of them, then identifying what I will use during that same week it entered my house and finally recycling what is left. Happily, I have found a local farmer that takes my paper bags and paper sheets to reuse and I know their buyers compost and recycle, so that paper won't end in the landfill. I'm a cricket, so I keep my shoes in their original boxes with the paper that protects them. However, it breaks sometimes so I use the brown sturdy papers that come in boxes to replace them. I like when you explain what gou think about stuff because I also think a lot about stuff. Great video, thanks.

    I have found when my basement flooded in our old home, anything paper turned to mold. A suggestion, do a walk through and grab empty boxes and paper items and recycle them. Then any of your plastic storage boxes you have, dump the items that are in cardboard boxes into them for later purging. 💕

    I think the flooding in the basement illustrates so well why keeping too much actually I dangerous for our most precious things. If we declutter and sort we are actually able to protect and enjoy our precious memories , while if it’s in a hoarded mess we don’t only risk not being able to find them but also that they break or get damaged due to not being properly stored! It’s great seeing your progress and it’s going to be so nice and calming when everything is sorted and properly stored!

    Good idea about the paper bin!! I had 30 bins of papers (Former Teacher and Child Care owner). I tend to keep way too much papers... I am still working on going through curriculum for 30 years of teaching and then all the registration forms from all the children that I had to keep for a certain amount of years...and bins of taxes. I take one bin at a time and work on it. I too have to look at every single paper.

  • @nurseware4527
    @nurseware4527 2 роки тому

    Ms. Heart. You are one of my favorite you tubers. I admire you so much. Your videos help me realize that as a kid I def had some hoarding tendencies. My two siblings would eat all the snacks in the house before I could have any and they would take candy from me -- poach my Christmas stocking, Easter basket, Halloween candy, etc. so I would hide/hoard snacks and candy in my bedroom. Most of the time it would go bad and I'd just have to throw it away bc I didn't even eat it. I also had the "perfect/unused condition" problem, especially with CRAYONS and stickers of all things. I'd only color with the bottoms of the crayons bc in the box they still would look perfect and unused. I also would keep all the stickers on the sheet (Lisa Frank!) and just look at them like they were works of art (lol). One day I just brought all my hoarded crayons and my entire sticker collection to the Boys and Girls club and it helped my heart to see the kids get so much enjoyment from them. My parents also kept the majority of my toys from childhood. Wanting to go back to grad school motiviated me to sell them (plus not having space to store them once my parents decided they wanted them out of their house) and I made pretty decent $ (especially on the 80s my little ponies), but it was a ton of work and time investment to sell all that stuff. I don't know what consciously changed for me, but these days I am closer to a minimalist than a hoarder. It's silly, but what has also helped me when it comes to toys (I have one toddler and feel myself developing attachments again to her toys) as far as letting them go is the movie Toy Story 3. At the end of the movie, Woody decides to help Andy (their original owner) to give the toys to the little girl, Bonnie who will play with and take care of them, rather than going in a box in the attic. Keep up the great work! I love following your journey.

    I like how you didn't skip the box of paper. I saw it and thought, "oh oh, it's a giant paperweight!" I feel the "weight" of paper too and sometimes it turns from paperweight to boulder status in my mind pretty quick. Keep the accountability going so you don't churn it again. It is ok if it takes multiple JOLTs to finish it. I'm using that technique to take bites out of the "boulder" in my office this month. I'm down to only one stack left on the floor and then on to the stuff that isn't on the floor.

    Great job again! Yay! I've caught up! love your videos, love your process. You are amazing. I'm working in my garage now, which is kind of like a basement for me. It's where everything ends up lol

    Great accomplishments! You are doing so well! I am impressed that you are making progress and knowing your limitations. Papers are definitely my personal nemesis! Lol. They are like bebe's kids! (Don't die they multiply!) Lol.
