Love Oceania boats!! I’m on a 5 year plan. Looking to buy in the next 3-4 years. Year 5 I’m gone for a long time.

As an owner of Beneteau First 265 I believe the woodwork of the older boats is much better than the new boats. I do think cabins of ALL new boats look like the interior woodwork was purchased from IKEA. Beneteau was famous for their woodwork and yes, I think they have cheapened up the look. Would it stop me form purchasing a new Beni, not sure.

the 34.1 really is a great little boat, but I'm a thick boi and need a bit more roominess

Thank you Chris! When doing comparation it will be interesting to take a look at different numbers like capsize ratio, capacity of the tanks, etc.
I also have a hard time to accept a dual rudders configuration in the fiberglass boat. Is Beneteau doing something special to mitigate the results of collision with a relative small object like a log? Is 2 smaller rudders safer vs one behind the keel?

I have Chris, I sorta looked at those two brand and models as equals. The trick for me is to find a fresh water example with very little use 3-5 years old and close to half the cost of new!
I’m Canada our wonderful government charges luxury tax on top of 13% tax on a boat valued at $250,000 or more Canadian dollars! That’s like 25% tax!
I found a 2020 Beneteau 35.1 2 cabin with every feature but A/C. 60 hours on it and fresh water only. $165,000 US. Michigan boat.
Survey is being done this week fingers crossed. Deal is contingent on the survey.

Thanks Chris, I have but they are about a $50,000 bump in price for fresh water examples and I sail alone most of the time. Just much more than I need and the 35 keeps me in the 30-35ft slip fees at most marina’s on the Great Lakes. I’m also looking to buy once and keep this boat for 20 years into my mid 70’s so less might be more.

Thanks. In these reviews it would be nice to get the specs on the length of the cockpit benches since for many this is a sleeping berth. Can we fully stretch out on these benches?

Do you have an opinion on when the sweet spot time will be for charter boats getting cycled out of service but were in service during covid and subsequently had few hours?

Chris do you think the 34 vs 35.1 is a whole different experience and worth the wait to buy the newer vs older model? I’m finally able to find fresh water 35.1’s with less the 100 hours for under 170,000 US.

You are always banging on about new designs having a length overall similar to their Waterline length so you aren't paying Marina and slipping fees without getting accommodation although the new crop of straight stem or reverse sloped stem boats all have bow spirits that increase their overall length for absolutely no gain in accommodation. Fill in that space with the same water line length and you have yourself an anchor chain locker at least.
Also if you take that European rating which indicates the boat is a coastal Cruiser or an ocean crosser you have to be very naive as these new boats are built extremely light with flat bottoms and insubstantial mounts for the Keel not to mention twin riders with no Skeggs which are extremely vulnerable to striking any sort of debris or fish with no protection which would otherwise be afforded from the Keel. Your reviews are all about internal space with no reference to sailing characteristics or dick gear. You sound like a salesman at a Boat Show trying to a appeal to the woman of the family.

your really not giving folks good or accurate information. The notion that all older boats need to be refitted before getting those vessels out sailing is not at all accurate.Sailing Atticus didn't end up spending a small fortune refitting their newly acquired boat bacause it was old. They ended up in that situation because they did not do their due diligence in finding the the right boat.I personally don't agree with you at all concerning Beneteau .There are plenty of awesome seaworthy sailboats for sale that have been meticulously maintained and are 20,30,even 40 yrs old ,still beautiful to the eye and still a blast to sail, and their not going to run you a quarter of a million dollars.Where do you think these current generation Beneteau's are going to be in 40yrs? probably in a landfill. Its ok Chris,I understand, your of that generation that doesn't appreciate old things in general and you'll in general avoid a hard days work like the plague. You simply don't see any value in it. Thats a shame in my opinion but you have lots of time to learn from your experiences and hopefully you will.

Oddly enough although I sound like I'm 20 I'm decades older than 20 and with over 200,000 NM sailed, certified sailing instructor for the largest sailing school in the Americas and numerous ocean crossings. I did not come to my conclusions by chance or because I don't appreciate older things, I have came to my conclusion based on sailing in the real world including every condition you could imagine including category 4/5 hurricanes. The newer beneteau's in 40 years will be sailing just like the current 30 plus year old beneteau's are now. There is no secret or opinion when it comes to older vessels needing far more work to maintain as well as everything on a sailboat has a lifespan. And finding any sailboat that's well maintained is difficult enough let alone one that's 40 years old. These are not opinions these are simple facts and I have laid it all out numerous times in videos, all the costs, all the life spans, everything someone should know long before buying some old dumpster. Captain Q is a fantastic example of fantasy vs reality, he shows absolute dumpsters and attempts to convince people with a little love they will be great, that's just a factual lie period
